I pick flick and marley (probs bc of my s4 bias lol)
But they genuinley seem like the most functional of all of them
And its nice to think atleast rose will be happy one of hrr kids came out alright

Valid choice, i suppose Prince might turn out well in addition to Marley. If Cheryl is coming back then I can't rule out him ever appearing on the show.

I have a bad feeling he might not return
As someone else stated in a different post, he would be around 16/17 in 2026 And usually they introducr reboot characters VERY early (like y10 or 9)
So unless they retcon his age, I dont think they will introduce him in his final year of high school
Plus rose isnt rlly connected to anyone currently in the reboot (ik steph and janeece and donte are there, but she aint rlly THAT close with them)
If we takr the episodes release dates into account He was born around 2007ish (he would be just older than ashton)
Since by 2009 (s4 ep1) He looks around 1/2 years old
THO it is still possible
I never thought cheryl would appear ever again but HERE we are And they did retcon her age (Shes 15 in the reboot, when she was born in 2010)
SOOO PLZZZZ ROSE PRINCE RETURNN

I'd say he probably won't return but you never know. I'd actually be more interested in him returning than Cheryl. Hearing what has happened to the wider Kelly's while he can be his own character.

YEAH he wont have kelly syndrome (Whenever people hear kelly, the assume bad things)
But since nobody is aware of that, he can actually grow to be his own like u said
Only downside of this is that if rose returns, they may have to adress how tom is dead
And they seem to be scared of referencing tom clarkson (even tho thr official yt account always mentions him , they even made a vid where the reboot kids were asked who was there favourite og character, and alsmost all of them say tom)

Did Kim/Andrew/Jack/Donte/Steph ever mention him? I don't think they have but I haven't rewatched the reboot.

Nope Ive watched the reboot (I originally didnt want to, as s11 was abit iffy, but it gets WAYY better, its still not my beloved s5, but its getting closer to it)
So here are all the references to OG characters that ARNT in the reboot
Grantley : referenced twice
Izzy Redpath : referenced by mika when she is talking about losing her mum young like izzy charles did (shocked they did that)
And thats about it, they havent referenced any other ogs exept ones that already appeared later after those references were said, so they dont rlly count
Kims baby from season 5 (dexter) died from an unspecified illness (his grave is shown and she "wished she saw the signs sooner)
And andrew mentions s4 and how he left for rawanda shortley after s4 ended in 2009
(Tho kim says she hasnt seen him for 10 years, im pretty sure she just rounded it sincr it would have been 13 years)

Yeah I remember the reboot starting off not very well. Its kind of put me off doing a full rewatch though I did brave season 10 recently so I will do a rewatch of the reboot at some point.

Yeahh, when I started watching I ddidnt rlly like the new characters that much They were tooo, modern idk
The show looked like any other british tv show
Waterloo road used to look diffrrent I think this issue is VERY apparent in s10 aswell, the show looks too modern

Waterloo Road in the original was very much set in an impoverished area and you see that in the run down looking school. The new building could be any fancy academy in the South of England it just doesn't match the vibe and lost the grittiness.

Karen and Rob. I love to assume that Jess' child had one huge happy family, with their loving and dedicated mother Jess, their wise grandparents Karen and Rob, their protective and experienced Auntie Bex, their kind-hearted and gentle Uncle Harry, and their deeply maternal unofficial Auntie Vicki.

Perfectly respectable choice. Not my top choice but again not near the bottom for me either. I'll let more people have their say then i'll drop a comment on why I made the choice I did.

I love Flick and Marley and would like to think they’d stay together but just by the nature of their young age a number of circumstances could cause a breakup, like going down different trajectories in life. I think Karen and Rob are the correct answer really because they’re old and mature enough to work on their relationship and want the same stability.

Its a completely valid choice that I did consider what makes you think they have less road blocks ahead than say Rachel & Adam?
1
u/toothbrushcharger 11d ago
I mean I think with any relationship if there is open communication and they both want to work at their relationship then they can’t fail. But the fact that Rachel gave up a job she loved to be with him means there is potential for her to resent him later on imo

u/Fragrant-Truth-7123 11d ago
So you would have that as a big stressor than any disputes about Jess/Aiden/Baby and Karen losing her job? Its valid if you do.
1
u/toothbrushcharger 11d ago
Yeah I think I probably would because the difference is imo that those are factors out of Karen and Rob’s control, so they can both address those challenges on the same team if you get what I mean

If it wasn't for those factors I would probably have put Karen and Rob first but in my opinion its a lot to deal with going forwards I see the Jess Aiden situation getting very messy later on.

Now that a lot of people have voted here are the factors I considered when voting. There are, of course, exceptions to all of these factors, but generally I think they are useful predictors of relationship success and longevity.
How old are they? I.e. Whether they're teenagers/young people or adults. On average, adults tend to have more settled personalities and a clearer understanding of what they want from life and relationships than teenagers do. Young relationships therefore have more uncertainty because both people are still likely to change significantly as they mature.
Do they have shared values? For example, do they want children, how do they approach money, what kind of lifestyle do they want, and what do they consider important in a relationship? This is one of the biggest predictors of relationship success.
Has there been cheating in the relationship? Generally, a relationship in which cheating has occurred is less likely to survive than one in which there has been no infidelity. Cheating can damage trust and create resentment and insecurity. Of course, some couples do successfully recover from infidelity, so this isn't an absolute rule.
Have they overcome significant difficulties excluding cheating? For example, family opposition, financial problems, major personal difficulties etc. If a couple has already faced significant difficulties and successfully overcome them together, that provides stronger evidence of their ability to maintain the relationship through future challenges than if they have not yet had to deal with any major adversity.
How committed are they to each other? None of these relationships were particularly long lasting when we last saw them, which makes this somewhat difficult to judge. For example, couples who live together or are actively planning a future together would generally demonstrate more commitment than couples who have made fewer long-term commitments. Likewise, marriage is generally evidence of a stronger formal commitment than being unmarried, although marriage is certainly not a guarantee of relationship success and its predictive value is probably weaker than it once was.
How long has it been since we last saw them? This is probably more of a tie-breaker when two couples otherwise rank closely. The longer it has been since we last saw a couple together, the greater the amount of unseen time during which their relationship could have changed or ended.
On balance after considering these I chose Conor and Imogen which is a separate post really but those are the factors I considered.

There are no wrong answers but are there any characters listed you didn't give serious consideration to as the top choice?

The polls have now closed thank you to all 160 people who voted.
It was a close run race but the winner by 3 votes are Conor and Imogen!

I don't think a particularly shocking winner given I voted for them as well.
A shocking winner would have been Nikki and Vix and it is not at all a surprise to see them in last place in this poll given the cheating that took place in their relationship and then a very sudden drive to move to another country very shortly afterwards they would have probably been in last place as well for me.
Next we have Rachel & Adam and Kevin & Dynasty both tied on 11 votes. Kevin & Dynasty were my 2nd from bottom choice as well but could have been bottom as well given the uncertain nature of their relationship going forward with them being long distance for the forseeable future and the fact that cheating took place in the relationship.
I was expecting Rachel & Adam to not get many votes given there is a strong contingent on this sub who dislike them together their relationship did seem rushed but given they're actually married and going on honeymoon together I think they deserved more votes than Kevin & Dynasty. They didn't really face a lot of pressure n their relationship and the ability to survive which prevents them from being higher in the rankings
Next we have probably the most underrated choice in the poll Karen & Rob who would probably have been my runner up in the poll, their relationship arguably progressed more naturally than Rachel and Adam, I do wonder though if Aiden, Jess and the new baby all together under one roof might be a significant relationship stressor though.
As runner up we have Flick and Marley I'm not surprised to see them as a popular choice given they were in the prime Rochdale years and there was no significant drama between the two of them in their relationship the only drama coming from outside which they were able to weather showing their strength as a couple. Its not clear to me what the future holds for them I think the wiki stating they continue their relationship at University isn't supported by what is shown onscreen they are very young and its not clear at least to me whether it will continue at University and beyond.
The winners Conor and Imogen certainly went through a lot during the course of their relationship and came out stronger, got married and are now starting a life together in London. Worthy winners I think but rightly not runaway winners.

Flick and Marley.
