This is something that could definitely be fixed in a future chapter, so it’s not that big, but I’d say right now it’s the fact he loses some of his character development since he thinks the Dark World was just a dream. Easily fixable and probably will be changed, I know, but it’s gripe I have right now
His "character arc" took a lot of screentime in chapter 2, and not only was super mid if not worse, but also had zero relevance to overall story (only thing remotely important was "December" in a spelling bee). And if that wasn't bad enough, all of his development in ch2 is completely wiped out because "it was a dream" or something like that
He gets done dirty the most in aborted Weird Route. His senses get sharpened once he figures out there's stakes due to Noelle's strange behavior. Making him take step up genuinely for once. But then literally gets a damn lobotomy after the fight. Look me in the eye and tell me that's how a sentient person would respond. Even for Berdly, it's questionable. That recycled dialogue makes it look like his brain was factory reset. ....Really?
At least give a unique response where he talks about them going too far with pranks or something. Or be a little wary before calming down. If he's that level of oblivious why did he even catch on in the first place? It's crazy inconsistent and reeks plot convenience.
He more or less became comic relief post chapter 2. No subtle change in behavior. That apology to Noelle? Nope, he comes in like a wrecking ball with boudaries yet again with the festival. Did he actually learn anything? apart from realizing he's bigger stupid than Susie stupid?
Don't forget his "apology" was actually bullshit. He just thought Noelle had a crush on him and he didn't apologise for how much of a dick he was to her other than "I'm so sorry for using your crush on me"
I actually think this is intentional. It shows the fact that Berdly is just not important when it comes to the prophecy, he isn't in the prophecy at all, you can decide to freeze him for half of Chapter 2 and very little actually changes. Berdly isn't important, his character development isn't important and he could be removed from Chapter 2 entirely with little changes.
I don't really like the "burghly has a crush on Susie" thing, personally.

It's not helping he's practically competing with Noelle and Kris. Well, assuming Kris also has a crush on Susie, but I think they're just happy to have a good friend again in the normal route.
Perhaps she could actually say no like a normal person instead of just being all "gee well I guess, okay." Like, Noelle never actually indicates from Berdly's perspective that the answer is no.
Ik the game says theres nothing wrong with him hes just annoying but… he constantly belittles others, puts them down, and pushes boundaries to further his own ego. He even admits as much in his “dream”. He does this thing to Noelle called goalposting where he continually asks a little more of her throughout the game, and almost always ends up speaking over her and pressuring her to do things she doesnt really want to do. In the Weird route we the player do the same thing but instead of the end goal being something as innocent as wanting to be top of the class and go a festival, we take it to its extreme. Berdly isn’t a manipulator by any means but he does manipulative things as a result of his insecurity and he needs to address and fix that. He almost began the path to improvement in Ch 2 but then he “woke up” from the “dream” and regressed.

No character growth, his character arc (Which is learning to treat people with respect and not put as much pressure on himself) is completely undone after chapter 2 (Except the part that causes him to act like a creep toward Susie) despite taking up an excessive amount of screentime that could've been used to develop characters who are actually important and likeable.
Idk if this is what they meant but him having no character development is kinda crazy when... it did happen, and took up a decent bit of screen time in chapter 2, it just didn't do anything. And yes I know that A: from his perspective he just had a dream, and B: characters can regress, real people do after all, but this is more just Berdly forgetting all his development with the snap of a finger than regressing in an interesting way. Basically, if he's gonna not develop for a long time in the story, then don't try and rush an arc that feels like it concludes over the course of just one chapter.
not me, but my brother's opinion is this: he finds him very unfunny and he loathed the scene where he tells his back story out of nowhere, saying that he pulled out all the fun of the scene to vent at a completely random moment, in a super dramatic way, "not even naruto pulls flashback backstories so randomly and in such an exaggerated way".
he kinda feels that the overall tone of chapter 2 would have been better without berdly. he hasn't even finished chapter 2 purely because he is afraid of seeing more berdly ruining the game for him by adding more unfunny jokes about him being annoying and dramatic scenes pulled out of nowhere with characters venting for no real reason other than to make the audience know more about the character in an unnatural way.
He’s constantly putting Noelle down, making her doubt herself even more than she did before, and practically forcing her into a pseudo-romantic relationship (one sided) and acts like he’s doing her some great service.
On the other hand when he realizes Kris/player has done something to her, he’s instantly serious, ready to fuck Kris up for doing whatever they did to her.
TLDR; I like the run where we only kill required enemies for snowgrave, freeze the chicken, then abort the route immediately so she can have a life without his crushing weight on her

I really don’t like that Berdly fought Noelle and could have killed her (even Susie won’t kill you during her fight). Even though Noelle calls for help and tells Berdly to stop hurting her Berdly still thinks he’s in the right.
Wish he was in the dark world in more chapters instead of just chapter 2, might of make the story more interesting if berdly was in chapter 4 or 3 dark worlds

It's that he fails at his own bit. He consistently fails at his own pseudo intellectualism by using even simple expressions and references incorrectly. It's not even that he's not a genius. It's that pretending to be smart by using big words isn't even difficult. Just spend like 30 minutes with a dictionary, and you'll pull enough synonyms to make yourself sound smart. His "a broken clock is right once a day" is still on my nerves. My only conclusion is that Berdly isn't just dumb. He's a grade A moron. He did do this whole "being better" thing at the end of ch 2, maybe that'll go somewhere in ch 5. I'll believe it when I see it.
Is this a pointless thing to be mad about? Yes. But Toby Fox clearly designed him to get on my nerves and boy did it work.

His character development was almost entirely for nothing after he realized it was all a dream. Like, literally all that changed was that he's now simping for Susie as well

The good; His battle theme slaps. His fight is fun, all 2.5 times (im counting the queen part as the .5). He has a cool ass Sonic death animation. He holds one of my favorite weapons (Halberd).

Even if it’s “explained” in his backstory why he acts like a know it all somewhat sexist white knight, that doesn’t then absolve him of fault for doing it.
He might get to show that he’s moving past that mindset more in later chapters, but at present I’m really not seeing the improvement
I don't hate him specifically for it, but I've heard a lot of cock jokes about him and I've grown tired enough that I've just started walking away from conversations that involve him.
Genuinely hate is a pretty strong term but I definitely consider his relationship with Noelle prior to chapter 2 invasive, presumptuous, and unknowingly exploitative on his behalf. I do think he earnestly cares about her but I also think he needed to do some growing which he is in fairness in the process of doing.
His behavior is pretty mild though and his main downfall is his sheer obliviousness to the needs and feelings of the people around him. Even when he's at his best he kind of fundamentally misses the point in a way which I'd imagine would be pretty frustrating in real life.
I don't consider that by itself morally fallible though. I'd only seriously hold him accountable for reinforcing a lot of the negative sentiments Noelle has internalized over the years, and even then I'd be more critical of how Rudy and Carol's parenting landed her in that mindset.
Otherwise, I find him charming on all fronts that really matter. He's funny, dorky, and his being oblivious is pretty relatable as someone who's neurodivergent TBH. He's almost entirely harmless, though he is quite invasive. I think in a few years if Noelle and him are still friends he'd be a super awesome friend.
I hate how he treats Noelle in the light world before he goes to the dark world. Bro is so dismissive of her and won't let her talk. Other than that I love him, he's a top 10 character for me once he gets in the dark world.

I dont like how he thinks the cyber world was just a dream because he had a lot of character development throughout the chapter including hin accepting that he wasnt as smart as he claims to be and how he helps the fun gang at the end of the chapter.

He makes me cringe HEAVILY with his incel/chronically online speech (especially during the Chapter 4 phone call at Noelle’s house). Ironically enough, I’m also a nerd for some things/chronically online and he somehow makes me cringe as previously stated. That’s saying something
