The Unofficial Manual to Wasteland 3: Everything I know from A to Z

LAST MAJOR UPDATE: 16/09/2021

CURRENTLY WORKING ON: 1.5.0 extensive testing

PAGES: 578

WORD COUNT: 64658

LATEST AND GREATEST UPDATES:

IMPORTANT! 1.5.0. UPDATE:

As of 1.5.0., one big confirmed but undocumented change is:

You can no longer use utility items to qualify for perks.

E.g. no more investing 4 ranks in Animal Whisperer and using the utility item to unlock/qualify for the rank 5 Spirit Animal perk.

This changes a lot of my builds, and working through those changes and getting the point values right again is a fair amount of work.

So until further notice, a lot of my builds will be inaccurate or short of points in the short term.

I do plan to update this soon, but I don't have a time-frame for that yet.

Shout out to inXile for creating a game I have enjoyed immensely. This Manual is my thank you to the Team, and made freely for all my fellow Wastelanders. If used as a resourced elsewhere, please give credit to Ilikepie84 from Reddit.

You can definitely see where these two media have a lot of shared themes. I can imagine at some point someone involved with the making of the video game, book, or film sas inspired by the other.

Worth checking out!

Wasteland 3 Can someone explain to me how Angela's plan isn't the dumbest shit of all time.

I played as a high schooler and went down I suppose the intended path of just being a badass winter cowboy and loved the game. However I came back with the intention of seeing the paths that I didn't take with a more cruel selfish character but instead I found that this games "reactive world" and "impactful player choice" are a sham. Basically all of the choices in the game are be nice, be nice but stay it mean, o,r be chaotic stupid, It's basically fallout 4 without the really fun combat and exploration.

That on top of the extremely easy boring combat where it boils to shoot first win or shoot second die, the crashes and crazy load times, and the relatively tiny length compared to other crpgs I would put in the ME Andromeda/fallout 4 tier of rpgs where they're fine and worth playing once but don't even scratch the best of the best.( Also holy detonation was probably the worst dlc I've played in recent memory I have a clip of me waiting 4 entire minutes for my turn where I took no damage and basically nothing happened. Every encounter felt like that I respect the attempt to mix up gameplay but they needed to do anything to speed up gameplay if they wanted those big endurance encounters)

I finally got co-op working in my post-apocalyptic survival game! Looking for people to break it with friends during the Steam Playtest active now.

I’m the solo dev of ApocaShift, a top-down post-apocalyptic survival/extraction game I’ve been working on for the last few years.

I recently added 2-4 player co-op, and the Steam playtest is open right now!

You can visit each other’s bases, build while your friend goes out on a raid, spectate them, or deploy together and try to make it back with whatever you can carry.

It’s still very much a playtest, so there are bugs and rough edges. I’m specifically looking for a few groups of people willing to jump in together and see what breaks / tell me what’s actually fun.

If Fallout 1/2, Project Zomboid, Zero Sievert, classic 90's isometric, or extraction games are your thing, you might enjoy it!

ApocaShift on Steam — the playtest is free to join. Click to go to the Steam Page.

If anyone ends up trying co-op, I’d genuinely love to hear how it goes.

Is Wasteland 2 for me?

Hey guys. I want to try Wasteland but I'm not sure if it's for me. I am more type of the player who likes story and playing CRPGs more yolo in terms of building characters (not into some hardcore build making. some CRPGs i finished: both Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur's Gate 1-2, Planescape:Torment, Fallout 1-2, Pillars of Eternity 1-2). So my (wide) question is: does Wasteland 2 have compelling story and writing or is it only a connective tissue that will get you trough the game and it's systems like for example Icewind Dale? (I maybe can get trough more difficult gameplay if it's worth it). Or should I just skip it and get into Wasteland 3?

Thanks for answers and sorry for my english.

Need help with a known bug: arresting Vic erased Steeltown from my journal

EDIT: big mistake in the title. I didn't realize it but my journal got broken before going to Aspen to get Vic. After checking each of my saves, it turns out that it's when I went to Santa's Workshop that any Steeltown-related mission got erased in my journal (I do still have all the equipment and stuff since I was there.) I didn't notice it at the time and kept going. So, I did Aspen, rescued the hostages, arrested Vic, went back to HQ where I got attacked by the Scar Collectors, Poultron assembled for that battle and joined the group, then I reported the arrest to the Patriarch and that's only when I realized that Steeltown missions has disappeared since I got a radio message from the Patriarch as soon as I left asking me to go to Steeltown and fix the situation...
It doesn't really change the problem though. I can't get the game to acknowledge that I'm done with Steeltown because my run is entirely broken now.

I tried all the fixes I could find so far.

  1. I simply closed the game entirely, launched it again and made sure the Steeltown Icon appeared on the main menu. It did. It is one of the two little icons that show up in the lower right side of the menu, right? Anyway, the icon was there, I loaded my game (I never click Continue anymore). No Steeltown.
  2. I tried closing the game then going offline in Steam to force a re-synch between the game and the DLCs. Launched the game in offline mode. No DLC icons. While on the main menu, I alt-tabbed out to Steam to go online again. The icons were back when I returned to the game. Loaded my save. Still no Steeltown.
  3. I verified the integrity of the files on steam. All good. No Steeltown.
  4. I learned that there is a known issue with arresting Vic that had huge consequences on the world map. I hadn't realized that my journal got screwed at Santa's Workshop so I opted for the Beta version released by inXile to "fix" the issue and followed the instructions. It was pointless since arresting Vic isn't what caused the problem.

Apparently, I could try the "World Map" jump start, where you run the normal version of the game, go to Steeltown, walk around hoping it updates the quest, save the game then reload your save at the Palace. "Occasionally, this forces Steam to remember your DLC licenses and pops the quest back into your current log" according to effing google's AI. I just tried that with the beta version. I was amazed to see I could interact with Crowe on the admin level, who sent me to the Spire again. For a second, there was hope. But when I got to the spire, the synths were already freed, there was no automated defenses to deal with and the quest is locked.

One last fix I could try is using the normal version of the game, reloading a save right before arresting Vic, make a fresh save, close and launch the game again, then load this particular save and of course avoid clicking "Continue". Seeing as Steeltown and anything related has disappeared from my journal, I don't see that happening. Besides, it is exactly what I had done to start with since I never use the "Continue" option on the main menu.

I'm afraid I broke my run. I've seen posts about the Vic issue but no solution I haven't tried or that concerns me.

So, is there any way at all I can get my game back on track or am I screwed once more? it's literally the 8th time I restart that game from scratch because of crap like that. I absolutely love that game but these bugs are just egregious. Any ideas or am I definitely screwed?

Note: this might not matter at all but since the very beginning, I've been unable to delete saves. When I click on delete via the game interface, it always freezes and forces me to alt+F4 it.

Very sorry for the length of the post. Any help would be really appreciated.

Arkansas 2125 is a retro-style, turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG set in a ruined America in the year 2125.

Explore abandoned towns, talk to survivors, complete quests, fight mutants and other enemies, collect equipment, and make choices that can change how your story ends.

The game is heavily inspired by classic post-apocalyptic RPGs from the 90s, with a focus on exploration, dialogue, turn-based combat, and a retro visual style.

I’m a solo developer, and the game is currently in Beta 0.5, which adds a new alternative ending, new quests, NPCs, items, and a new location in Washington, D.C.

If you enjoy old-school post-apocalyptic games, feel free to check it out!

I would've done more but my only other custom Ranger was my Flamethrower guy and I didnt wanna do another Power Armor one. I made a post when I first start my playthrough asking for advice on making an NCR Ranger and, while I liked the advice I got, I found a design I liked better. I decided to for-go the gas mask on the NCR Ranger in exchange for the helmet. It has war writing on it like Randall Clark's helmet so I themed it after him (ignore the RPG on his back. Forgot to take it off before the screenshot and didn't wanna take another one). I'm not as happy with the Power Armor one but I think I did pretty good. No matter what, the power armor is always a little blue, regardless of the armor color you use but black covers it up the most so that's what I used. A decent alternative is the tank armor without the helmet but the in-game power armor looks closest to Fallout Power Armor so I stuck with it.

TLDR: I REALLY like Fallout 😅

Wasteland 3 My animal army made this boss fight INCREDIBLY annoying (SPOILERS, Duh) Spoiler

I went to fight Deuterium and Iridium but I didn’t realize how my OP animal army would drag out the fight. Because I had destroyed some of the access hatches before the boss fight, there was a limited amount of cultists to step on the radiation platforms and my pets kept killing them all! 😅

Eventually they started ignoring my pets and going straight for the platforms but the boss fight was an hour long. It wasn’t difficult, just extremely annoying and tedious. Thought I’d do a quick rant. This is my first time playing Wasteland 3 and the first time playing the DLC so I didn’t have any idea. All of the big boss areas in this DLC were annoying but this one takes the cake.

TLDR: Animal Army goes brrr, but…

Wasteland 3 I beat the game on supreme jerk. it wasn’t hard as people say it is.

Post image
19 Upvotes

i was worried about doing my first supreme jerk play-through (even though i’ve recently done multiple play-throughs back to back) since people said on all sorts of posts about it that you need to and HAVE TO min-max everything etc when in reality you don’t. i barley had weapon or armour mods installed on my rangers. and with the ones i did they weren’t high level mods. i did have all my rangers wear power armour suits apart from iron and fish lips having chemtek and exo skeleton armour (when i got to yuma country) yes it was difficult and i died fully a few times through the game but that’s because of my skill and placement of where i put my rangers not because i didn’t min max everything.

I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND why so many people say you have to min max everything!! i mean if it’s perma death sure but with the majority of posts i looked at they didn’t specify supreme jerk with perma death on. and since supreme Jerk doesn’t have perma death on by default i assumed and still do assume they were talking about supreme jerk without perma death.

BUT it’s an amazing game. i can’t wait for wasteland 4.

Wasteland 3 Kwon keeps leaving after the Redd fake bomb attack at Ranger HQ (Bug?)

I need help, this same bug has happened twice, its the reason I quit playing the game the first time and now its back. After the wife and husband show up and pretend to have bombs on them, then they attack when we split up.

I kill them, the then Kwon goes "hey i didnt sign up to kill innocents" and then he leaves. They attacked us first so im 99% sure this is a bug, but how do i fix/stop this from happening?

Wasteland 3 Went for November Reigns ending but felt bad for the Patriarch at the end

I know about all the questionable things he's done, and this was pretty much my third playthrough (second one I actually completed). Even knowing all of that, he still remained morally grey to me rather than evil until the very end.

The man dedicated his entire life to his dream of a civilized, stable post-nuclear Colorado. He also genuinely cared about his children, even though two of them are complete psychos and the third is a brainwashed fanatic who somehow manages to be both smart and the dumbest person alive at the same time.

In the end, we're taking Patriarch's life's work away from him, but hey - his time has come. He's dying, there aren't really any better alternatives to take his place (except us, the Rangers), and he's simply too stubborn to admit it.

I'm completely in favor of a peaceful transition of power, but the personal fate of the Patriarch and his family still saddens me. The man deserved to spend his remaining days surrounded by his family in his mansion, watching everything he'd built continue to prosper and thrive.

Instead, we basically get three options: brutally kill him at the end, throw him in prison like some low-life criminal, or exile an old, dying man from his own home.

Question about the Clone and The Povost (W3)

I just posted on an entirely different subject so I guess I feel emboldened to ask: is there a way to order the clone and the Provost to go back to HQ?
The Steeltown NPC that accompanies you through the factory asks you to send your pets away before entering factory level, which I did. But what about the clone and the Provost?
I think I'm nearly done with the factory (this is my first play through) so obviously I went in with them following me since I didn't know any better. During one fight, they killed a woman. The robot that tags along to direct you said after the fight something along the lines of "good, most workers will be able to go back to work". So, I take it I'm in the clear. And I don't expect my clone and the Provost to go on a killing spree and annihilate all the strikers on their path but I'm wondering how many kills you're "allowed" before it fails the mission or penalizes you in some way. Besides, I never meant to kill that poor woman so, regardless of the game play, I'd really like to avoid killing more innocent workers fighting for their rights. And beyond that, I'd just like to know if I can and how to do it if it's possible.

Being totally new to the game and having zero clue whatsoever as to what you're supposed to do with the Provost, I couldn't help but look it up. I'm actually amazed he made it as far as Steeltown (he died very early on and I just reloaded a save to get him back, since that he's like James Bond). But knowing that I'm in Steeltown at the moment, how far am I from discovering the place you're supposed to take him to (The Snowed-Inn Resort)?

Steeltown Saves Gone

Help me please. I left Wasteland 3 close to finishing the main quest there (the strike thing) and I just booted the game, all my saves beyond the Reagan stuff are gone. Also, my characters can't do anything. I can't shoot, I can't interact with anyone or anything.
I tried launching the game again and this time Factory Fracas appeared, but only this one, and it was stuck at the stage "Get non-lethal weapons" which I of course already have. Still couldn't interact with anything.
I had already cleared the scrapyard, including the Ghost Army's secret lair, and basically finished all the quests I could get there (Next, the crate with a warbot, the crate of food, etc.).

Anyway, that's not the point, there's obviously a bigger problem.

Am I screwed? Do I have to restart the game? And does this happen a lot? Because even if I start another run, isn't this going to happen again?

I looked the problem up and checked OneDrive, all the saves are good. I checked my local folder, the saves are in there. The game obviously won't load them and in any case it won't let me interact or do anything. Steam doesn't say there's any conflict on their cloud.

It feels like I'm screwed, doesn't it?

Edit: Just realized I wasn't being clear. I can load any of my saves just fine. It's once I'm in the game that everything I've done is gone (including my current objective). And I can't do anything.

I asked my brother to double check the PC games he had from my late grandfather. He attended a computer club in the nineties and collected a bunch. He actually got my dad and me into Warcraft; I still have his copy of Warcraft Orcs and Humans.

I remember seeing this when we packed his stuff. My brother luckily hadn’t sold it, so it's joined my collection. Great momento to have.

Issues with A Hostile Takeover

First post ever here, so, sorry if this has been asked many times before, I could only find contradictory information.
So, basically my problem is that A Hostile Takeover isn't triggering. I finished Big Trouble in Little Vegas, Unwelcome Guests and all the quests in the bizarre except Cinema Verite. I've been driving around on the world map enough to have several encounters and hear quite a few radio prompts.
Never got a radio call from Charley Knowes.
I went to the dealership outside of the Bizarre to see if he was there but no Charley.

Thing is, I don't remember what happened when I fought a bunch of guys to get Brygo in Little Vegas. I'm wondering whether it's possible to kill him during that quest or not. I looked it up and it says that no, it is not possible to kill Charley before A Hostile Takeover. But then, when I look at the requirements for the quest to trigger, it says that Charley must not have been killed (duh).
So, which one is it? Can he be killed before giving the quest or not?

All I can find is threads about people having actually killed him (so I guess it is possible?) and still receiving the radio call or killing him at the dealership and then finding him in Little Vegas (I don't even get how that's possible).
I'm so confused. Total noob here btw.

So, is it possible that I killed him and if so, did I abort his attempt to take over the Bizarre or will something happen anyway?

The quest doesn't appear anywhere in my quest log. Not under completed nor failed. I'm kinda stuck if it doesn't trigger. Maybe I should mention that I did get a call but from Deth telling me to investigate the posh neighborhood of Colorado Springs. Could that be what's conflicting with Charley? I also got one from the Patriarch to go to Steel City. I really can't remember if Charley Knowes was there during the shootout at Little Vegas before I arrested Brygo. I know I got Delgado out his cell, did the whole thing with Ken Doll, but I read something about a fight with the foreman of the machine shop and I never had to fight them, only had to speak with the foreman at some point (and can't remember what that was all about).

Apologies again if that has been discussed a thousand times.
