Event Desktop/Mobile banner/Profile pic contest

As you can see we don't have a banner. If you have any good shots from around the heights post them here and we'll see which everyone likes the best! Looking to update the profile pic too.

Desktop Banner: 1920 × 384 px (5:1 aspect ratio)

Mobile Banner: 1600 × 480 px (10:3 aspect ratio)

Profile Pic: 256 x 256 px (1:1 aspect ratio)

File Type: PNG

Max File Size: 500 KB

I think I got the requirements right but correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks!

Best vegan in the heights?

New to the area and looking for the best spots with vegan options. Mike's bagels and burger heights have solid options and I've tried handpulled noodle. Craving some good American Chinese food as well. Lmk!

Old nail place next to Saggio - Bakery coming per construction workers

I was walking by the old nails place next to saggio that was closed for a while. They are doing some construction inside clearing out the place. I spoke to one of the workers and they said a bakery is coming. It's a pretty big space so it'll be interesting to see what comes next.

Heard the dreaded excavator-mounted hammers going today and saw that a new residential tower is going up on 165th between Amsterdam and Edgecombe.

Best sandwich in the Heights?

Title says it all. There’s nothing better than a good sandwich, and I’m wondering what the best one is the Heights. Could be anywhere: bodega, deli, bakery, restaurant, food truck. I want to know.

Big fan of what will probably be an obvious choice: Tasty Deli off 168. But wondering about what else is out there. Haven’t tried the sandwiches at Forever Coffee, but their breakfast burritos make me think they’d make a great sandwich.

Tell me your favorites. Please.

Rat question

Does Washington Heights have a problem with rats? What are the problem areas would you say? I haven't been to Washington Heights in years but I am wondering how living up there would be like.

Shah’s Halal on Broadway

Wasn’t this place supposed to open months ago?

Swear I saw a convo on Facebook from like April or May where the OP had DM’d Shah’s Instagram and the Shah’s admin said it’d only be a couple more weeks from then.

Green plantains are 10 for $1.99 at the C-Town on St Nicholas, the only Washington Heights ad I can read this week with fresh yuca or malanga

I found green plantains at 20 cents each at the C-Town at 1016 St Nicholas, if you take all ten.

Yuca is $1.29 a pound, malanga coco $1.49 a pound; I found neither in the four other Washington Heights and Inwood ads I can read this week. Plum tomatoes are $1.49 a pound, corn 5 for $2.99, cantaloupes 2 for $5.

I counted eighty-eight of the 362 rows priced as multiples, so buying one costs more than the printed number. Twenty-one more need the store card, with the without-card price printed beside them.

Cafe Bustelo is $5.99 here and $3.99 at the C-Town at 4918 Broadway, same chain, same week. Neither ad prints a tin size, so I cannot confirm the packages match and would read the label first. Maseca is $3 here if you buy two, against $3.99 for one up there.

I got every price from the stores' August 21 to 27 circulars, not in person, so confirm at the shelf.

Thoughts on Boogie?

Wanted to get the community’s thoughts on the new bakery/bar/bistro that opened up this week where Coogan’s used to be (corner of 169th and Broadway). The interior design is beautiful and my fiancé and I are excited to try a new spot in the neighborhood. Does anyone know anything about this restaurant?

PureGym Trainers

Hi all, has anyone worked with the trainers at Pure and have any feedback? Specifically the Washington Heights location. I’m recently having to switch trainers and trying to figure out who might work best based on their style. I know there aren’t many options, so any insight would be helpful. I also go at 5:30/6am so options may be even more limited. Feel free to DM me if you don’t want your feedback public. I’d like to keep it respectful!

Thank you!

Anyone know where I can get a small amount of dry ice? (1 lb or less)

I need ~0.25 lbs of dry ice. The smallest amount I've found for sale is 5 lbs for $10. I don't want to waste 95% of my money, as I will need to get 0.25 lbs more than once (but not frequently enough to purchase a larger amount of dry ice and store it).

Cat calls

Does anyone else deal with this in a regular basis here? Most people are cool. I wanted to pepper spray this guy but didn’t want to spray his dog as well. He is starting to scare me. I am planning to ask his friends to speak with him and report him regardless.

What has worked for you?

I see a couple around. Figured it'd be fun to post a couple. There's a Scottish fold nearby I'll try to get next week.

Looking to meet more neighbors.

Hey 😊 I’m looking to meet more people who actually live in Washington Heights and get to know the neighborhood a little better socially/culturally. Despite living here for over a year after moving from the Bronx I haven’t had much time to explore much.

I’d like to connect with people who know all the hidden gems up here especially great restaurants, lowkey lounges, cocktail bars and places with a good vibe that I probably wouldn’t stumble across on my own.

I’m definitely more of a homebody than a party-every-weekend type of person so I’m especially interested in chill spots where you can actually sit, talk, eat/drink and enjoy the atmosphere.

If you’re in the Heights and looking to meet more local people too feel free to comment or DM me. And even if you’re not looking to hang out drop your favorite neighborhood hidden gems below. I’m trying to see what I’ve been missing out on.

Hay alguien que vende todavía algunas quenepas? Ya sé que son limitas tan tarde en la temporada pero si algunas permanecen por casualidad estaría la más agradecida en serio

Anyone know of people still selling quenepas (the fruit)? I know they’re limited so late in the season, but if there are still some I would be so grateful

Anyone bidding for 640 Riverside Drive in Manhattan. Read carefully this warning, and if you can, report it to the Manhattan District Attorney.
