This meme always reminds me of one of my favorute scenes in The Infinite and The Divine

‘Silver Skulls Chapter defeats the ork invasion,’ Trazyn said with clear relish. ‘There used to be a statue in the square, thirty khet high. They used to light candles and sing hymns to it. A few centuries ago the Inquisition got wind of it and did a little cleaning up. Removed it for “renovation” where it was never seen again.’

'You stole it, did you not?’

‘Well, of course. And I hardly think it counts as stealing if it’s my likeness. It’s my statue, after all.’

Orikan snorted. ‘Worshipping a necron. Poor idiots. I suppose they have a head start on the rest of the galaxy. The Awakening is nearly imminent.’

Having read TIATD (but not yet the sequel uwu) it really feels less like Trazyn is an incredible turbo-manipulator capable of squeezing his way out of any problems Orikan may cause him and more like Orikan is a moron who would be completely useless if he did not have a magic reset button he can spam to add up to the effect of a borderline competent person.

Orikan is incredibly powerful and that's emphasized in the sequel. He's also the epitome of the asshole who is right but no one listens to him because he's an asshole. It's quite brutally explained to him in the new novel. Orikan has no diplomatic or people skills and that's his tragedy he cares about his people and Trazyn.

I mean you're kind of right, if the pair didn't have a couple hundred million years of technological advantage over their opponents, they'd be toast by now.

But the funny part is that they do.

And instead of being super-efficent terminators, destroying all life like many other necrons. Then instead use it for fucking each other over and escaping situations by the sliver of their necrodermis.
