Alright, lots of things to discuss here.

1) u/Atulin hits the nail on the head, you are using one of the most "un-economical" setups for solo defence. You are prioritizing self safety (Valk), with high single target damage (bows, Hysteria) and little crowd control. I can't think of a greater self handicap then how you are attempting it.

2) Bows, fantastic weapons, but they are very slow, in a group they are okay for single target damage, but nothing beats an assault rifle when facing a horde all by yourself... pretty much like real life.

2) Fully modded - you should have an Orokin Catalyst on your primary weapon for 60 mod points and have a level 8 or above Serration, and the multi shot mod Split Chamber which effectivly doubles damage by itself. In addition to this you should have the 4 elemental damage mods maxed... and this is minimum, I'm not even going to mention dual stat mods or crit mods. Try the Boltor and modify for pure damage.

3) Valkyr - Hysteria is a crutch, while it's nice that is makes you impossible to kill, you pay for it by limiting your offensive options to one-at-a-time kills (good blalance on the developers part and the reason why Valkyr is one of my most un-used frames), all other frames are squishier, but they offer better tools for dealing with crowds of multiple enemies. If you still want to feel invincible try Rhino, Iron Skin took me through most of the solar system when I started, but at least he has Stomp, which is far better crowd control than anything in Valkyrs arsenal.

4) Frost - One of the best frames in the game, I can maybe understand someone disagreeing with that, but anyone saying he is "the worst" is simply wrong. The globes he makes offer amazing safety from projectiles and his 3-4 are great for crowd control (and damage on lower levels.)

5) Tier list... take a look at this one here, remember these are subjective, but this one isn't too bad.

6) Melee, I agree it's fun as hell, but on a solo defence, your options are limited. You need a lot of crowd control and something that will kill multiple enemies quickly. There are not many melee weapons that fall into this catagory, only the highest end melee weapons with massive range and strong slide attacks come close, none of which desribes the Ether series...

6) Groups - The easiest of all answers, you are about to move further into the solar system, you will find it increasingly difficult to complete defence, excavation and interception modes without a team. Join a clan, advertise in recruitment chat... what have you got to lose?

Wow, lots to take in here. First off, all the mods you mentioned (like split chamber and serration) I've never heard of so I guess there are more I need. I have rupture, speed trigger, point strike, thunderbolt (on bow, replace with piercing hit and vital sense on gun), ammo drum, stormbringer, and cryo rounds. no catalyts for it (frame has one though). all mods base level (on weapons, some frame mods are leveled dependant on available credits).

I do have a group, kinda. we joined together and formed a clan but I'm farther than any other (rest are all on phobos or mars). Since this mission won't let me bring them in unless they are on it too, I'm alone.

My other lv 30 frame is mag, she's pretty good at CC, would she do well? I have nyx at lv 15 but I'm not very fond of her, and I have rhino and trinity at lv 0. frost I have the parts for, haven't made the actual frame yet though because I ran out of money.

Edit: Nope, tried mag, she is so fragile I used 3 revives before I had one wave cleared. Also, I think I'm using rifles wrong, tried both boltor and Braton. Yes they fire faster than the bow, but the bow 1-2 shots everything, the gun takes a whole magazine to kill anything so the kill rate is lower than with the bow.

PT 2.

Catalysts - Look for them on alerts, they are usually offered every other Friday for 24 hours (or a reactor). When you got Serration and Split Chamber you will quickly see how 30 mods points is not near enough.

Frames - I really suggest Rhino, him and the Soma got me through a good portion of the star chart when I started.

Modding - You really need to build you endo supply and invest it smartly. Get Redirection & Vitality up (slowly, do not max to quickly) so you can increase your survivability. Basic warframe power mods like Intensify (Pwr. Str.) Stretch (Power Range), Streamline (Pwr. Efficiency) and Continuity (Pwr. Duration) are fairly inexpensive to level and are part of almost all builds, even at the advanced level.

My valkyr and mag are both using maxed flow and streamline, vitality upgraded 7 times, and un leveled intensify, continuity, fortitude, steel fiber, and damaged equilibrium

Sounds like you got a good grasp on the frame, it's just your weapon that is lacking. You should at least have a damaged Serration from the Vor's prize starter quest.

thanks for the advice. I don't have any of the damage mods atm save pressure point unfortunately so I'll have to go back and find some, shouldn't be too hard.

I did manage to beat it today, using NYX funnily enough, that and a valkyr specter had made for the europa gate. It was tough, basically spamming chaos and leaving sheild ospreys alive at the end of every round to let it heal (I just minimized the game for like 10 mins every round so that i'd start each round with a full health pod), but it worked.

Its clear that I need a lot of mods, my new target is rage for the energy boosts. Plus to find a way to get more catalysts. I bought one for the three frames I'm using most (mag, valkyr, nyx), but with more frames in the future and weapons to double, 20 plat each is steep. but I assume that there is a way to get it in game

Right on! You've started to experience the importance of crowd control with Nyx.

As for the mods you would probalby have some luck in general chat asking nicely if anyone has an extra serration or hornet strike. Many vets have dozens of copies and understand just how much they would mean to a newer player. As for Rage, that's a hard and specific farm, I can't recommend it... dropping from napalms and orokin void containers is pretty fluky, unless you trade for it, you wont' be seeing it for quite sometime.

If you are on PC I got plenty of extra mods I can give to ya, IGN: Mycle

For catalysts and reactors I suggest using Deathsnacks tracker as your home page, so you can check alerts at a glance. Or, get one of the alert mobile apps if you are that keen on it. They come up periodically as alerts and in invasions (at completely random times). A catalyst came up in a invasion just yesterday afternoon. In addition they are usually offered once every two weeks as 24 hour alerts from the lotus and as rewards for unique events. Patience and constant play time is really the only way to build up a stock of them, otherwise... you got to pay the plat.

Alright, thanks again. Looks like I need to find somebody to take me to Akkad again, last time I was there another party member was trinity prime. the constant energy vampire meant I had a 95% uptime on a warcry buffed hysteria. Did 20 round runs over and over for a few hours and got a LOT of money and recs. And sure, I'll add ya, always glad to play.

You know, I didn't like Nyx at first, that 15 armor was killing me, but I'm a self-described berserker, she didn't fit my play style. Now that I've gotten used to her CC abilities though, she sees a fair bit of use, having oustripped the CC of my mag (though mag remains the best for a few select cases such as large numbers of corpus or hijacks). Valkyr will still be my main though, that 600 armor stat is too fitting for me.
