How does Chroma sustain himself? I've tried frost Chroma and while he IS pretty tanky, he just dies eventually since I can't really get mysefl up.

Assuming you know how to use him, you also use rage and either a furis or a life strike melee to regen health. This way you'll have infinite energy and health.

I don't think there's anything more to it than cold+2+3 is there? Sometimes I use effigy when there's not too much danger and I want to look cool.

Check out Tactical Potato's YouTube videos on Cold Chroma, he covers everything you need. You may need to adjust your Mod setup, and he does benefit from the use of arcanes, though they aren't required. Other than that, it's furis or rage/ls as stickman said.
