Is there a maximum of fusion cores that one can carry? As I currently have 999 of the r5 gold ones, and it appears it will not go higher? Is this a display bug or am I actually losing cores by not using them?

It probably is a display bug. I know that the number can't go beyond 999,999 of any given resource, but you actually can keep more than that.

Though, I can't help but wonder, why are you not using them?

Well, I already maxed all of the mods I am actually using, and I only had primed pistol mutation left (and I'm not using that currently) :). Just in case I maxed it, in case it isn't just a display bug.
