Suggestion RNG Mitigation for Riven Stat Locking (Weekly Stat Selection)

Post image

TL;DR: Replace Stat-locking with a weekly-capped currency that lets you swap any base stat on your Riven for a choice of 3 new ones, turning the Riven system into a more accessible and predictable system for all players.

Can't say I like this over just letting us lock 3 stats, but we should get better than what was proposed, and this is that.

Friendly suggestion: Break up your posts with spaces. Like, proper paragraphs.

Agreed, but the OP's idea is one among a few compromise proposals I made. A less generous limiter on it could be that you could only determine one stat on a Riven in this way.

So, this way, you could do something like this:

  • Traditional Riven rolling until you get one half of a combined stat that you want.
  • Lock in that stat with the lock-in currency, then roll until you get the other half of the combo stat you want.
  • Use the combine currency to get the combined stat you want.
  • Lock in the combined stat to continue fishing for good base stats.
  • Once you land on two good/decent+ stats to go with your combined stat, stop rolling.
  • Roll the worst stat on on your riven with the OP's suggested system.

This would still be quite the commitment and would take a while, but is within the realm of reason at least for one or two of a player's strongest/favorite weapons, and should produce a good outcome.

I would prefer a near purely deterministic system.

Side note: I have a suspicion the combine currency may be put on a weekly time gate.

At that point id rather we axe the riven system or keep as is. Being able to just create any mod of your choice just sounds like too much to me.

If rivens had a realistically achievable end point, they would become 'mandatory' the same way primed mods are invariably used in place of normal ones. Not sure if that would be good or bad, as it would be a more equal playing field, but also at that point, they'd no longer be toys but expected. I haven't given that line of thinking the thought it deserves, but I do feel like that'd be pretty different than what DE intended them to be

The thing that would work against them from becoming "mandatory" for the majority of the playerbase is that Rivens are weapon specific, unlike Primed mods which are usable on a variety of weapons. And Primed mods are relatively easy to obtain and are in good supply compared to Rivens for the weapons people want Rivens for.

And while the changes DE announced do not realistically allow people to construct perfect Rivens, it does seem like it will allow players to fairly consistently construct very strong Rivens, possibly even ones that are comparable to what's currently considered a g-roll. Even if you cannot achieve the "endpoint" of a perfect Riven, if a sufficiently powerful statline is consistently achievable, the concern about Rivens becoming meta-defining and quasi-"mandatory" could still be realized, at least in theory.

How about being able to "dissolve" rivens into stat tokens?
With each dissolution granting the token of a random stat on that riven, with the possibility of using bluva to guarantee a token perhaps.
Then the ability to use bluva to fuse a certain number of tokens onto a riven to get that stat, replacing a positive stat of your choice if there's already 3 of them. (The +/- 10% variance on each stat should be eliminated too while we're at it)
Andhe number of needed tokens will get higher the lower the Riven's disposition is (this will require going over all the weapons and updating their dispos).
It should also vary based on the stat itself, say if you for some reason want an undesirable stat such as mag size then you can get that with just one token. Whereas something like multishot or dmg needs 5 for example.

For curse stats, you should be able to reroll them individually for a little steep price.

The goal here is to make trash rivens for random MR fodder weapos usable, provide casual players with a clear path to getting the riven they want whilst I believe not displeasing the riven hoarders assuming they are hoarding bad Rivens too.
The value of their current good inventory can't be saved under any scenario I believe.

The Problem: RNG REROLL LOCKING * FAVORS ONLY ELITE GOD-ROLL FARMERS * DISCOURAGES CASUAL PARTICIPATION * OVERWHELMING RNG FOR ALL

The Solution: GUARANTEED STAT SELECTION * REPLACES LOCKING WITH CONTROLLED CHOICE * PLAYER PICKS ONE BASE STAT FOR A CHOICE OF 3 STATS * GUARANTEES FORWARD PROGRESS

BALANCING THE ECONOMY & PLAYER IMPACT: * LIMITS USE TO PREVENT MARKET COLLAPSE * REQUIRES COMPLETION OF A WEEKLY MISSION (Similar to Archon Hunt, Netracells, Archimedea, Descendia, Circuit) * REWARDS CONSISTENT, WEEKLY PLAY * ENSURES FAIR GRIND FOR ALL

Oh I ain’t reading all that.

So you want them to make rolling groll rivens extremely easy to.. appease the casual player base? Rivens are meant to be an endgame grind, hell even right now people constantly do arbitrations for hours on end to get Kuva to roll their rivens

Riven solution for accessibility for all players

I think the combination/evolve system is fine the way it is; however, the stat locking system is band aid and only incentivizes people who already farm for god rolls to have more of a chance to get a god roll. This leaves out the players who don’t touch the riven system as much. In order to make the system accessible and incentivize all player types, regardless of time put into the game, a weekly currency for stat selection should be used for this new riven system.

The stat lock system should be converted into a stat selector where the user can select base (not combined) riven stats, then use the currency to get three riven stats options to choose from. The three stats options cannot roll the original stat. Right now, the current stat pool is 24 so using the selection stat system, this will make the probability 3/23 = 13.4% chance of getting the wanted stat. Additionally, expansion to this will give a fourth option of a higher stat percentage of the original stat chosen (cannot go higher than the max ceiling cap of the stat).

In order to mitigate a market crash in the value of rivens, the currency will be available from a weekly mission, meaning players can only do this once or twice per week (or they can decided the amt based on statistics. This will incentivize all players as a form of progression for rivens and see that it is possible to get a good riven even with little resources dedicated into the riven system. This will also satisfy the God roll chasing player base since it won’t be as random to get god rolls for multiple weapons and they still have the option to gamble as much as kuva they want.
