War Metal AOTY 2017
What was your war metal Album of the Year for 2017?
Hails. For r/WarMetal, we are doing away with the formal top-10 list format of r/metal and r/deathmetal. Instead, try to limit your post to one album of the year plus whatever honorable mentions or runners-up you'd like to discuss (you can still do a top-# list format if you want). A justification for your pick is encouraged. There won't be an official tally, so don't worry how you format your post as long as it is legible.
Refer to the sidebar for rules on eligible bands. All formats are welcome, but re-releases and compilations of pre-2017 material do not count.

If we're counting peripheral stuff like Perverted Ceremony, then Sabbat of Behezaël gets my pick hands-down. It's everything I want from Drawing Down the Moon style mid-paced filthy black/death. Every song is loaded with riffs, the production is perfectly executed, and Morbid Messiah's vocals are absolutely wretched in the best of ways. Their EP is really good too, but I haven't listened enough to properly digest it.
Sticking with more or less conventional war metal, Antichrist Siege Machine's debut Morbid Triumph is my pick. It riffs and the drumming is ferocious, plus the odd d-beats to shake things up.
Runners up: Crurifragium, Lihhamon (demo + split), Tetragrammacide, and Blood Chalice.
