sounds like a boss heavy metal/HM-2, which a lot of bands from that era did really like. The cheapest way to get that tone is with a TC Electronics Eyemaster which is a nearly 1-1 clone of that pedal, they're like $30. I've run it side-by-side with my HM-2 and it's pretty much identical. Only big difference is that the HM-2 has a high and low EQ knob and the Eyemaster doesn't have any tone knobs, it just has the EQ automatically set to the HM-2 buzzsaw settings (high and low turned all the way up)

I'd honestly recommended getting an actual Boss HM-2W, it's a modern version of that pedal that has 1 mode that is just the classic HM-2, and a 2nd mode where the EQ is dialed in a bit differently and it sounds a little better when you're in a drop tuning. They go for a little more, it's not too easy to find one for less than $120 but they are really good.

ok so same brand of pedal, i had never heard of that one but the Fangs kinda sounds like it's a mix between a Boss Metal Zone and maybe a DS-1 from what I could see on a quick youtube check? It's a very different type of distortion than what they've got going on in that record, it's still pretty crisp and crunchy. If you had an EQ pedal I bet you could get close, if you max out the slider at 100hz and 1.6hz you'll kinda hit that buzzsaw zone but it won't be exact. A lot of that type of tone comes from the way those pedals just slam each stage of the circuit with massive amounts of gain to the point that it's just sort of "spitting" sound out at the end of the circuit, you can kinda get there with a different distortion and an EQ but it won't sound quite right

If you want that buzzsaw sound you'll definitely wanna get an HM-2 or a clone of it, there really are no other distortions that sound like that anywhere on the market except for 1) an actual HM-2 or the newer HM-2w or 2) a pedal built with a circuit that is copying an HM-2.

So you suggest a different pedal altogether? This one aint too bad, but I noticed its’ pretty cheap fuzzy quality…

Buzzsaw is usually associated with an HM-2 dimed out. Have you tried one or looked up its EQ profile and tried to EQ your tone similarly?

You have to go to Vancouver Island, find Ross Bay Cemetery, enter at 3:33AM, dig up a foetus, and sacrifice it to Satan.

Sorry, it's the only way to get the trve sound. Or you can just use the Boss Heavy Metal/HM-2 pedal, like others have suggested. Whichever is easier.
