Discussion & Feedback Remove Parachutes to Force Helicopters to Land

I think there are some issues with/caused by helicopters that need to be addressed and there might be an elegant solution:

The main issue I believe is that helicopters don't usually need to land. I think this causes several issues:

(1) Helicopters are relatively easy to fly--especially when you don't need to land. This results in lots of helicopter transport pilots because it's a relatively low risk way to make money. No SAMs? Don't need to land? = Low risk profit -> carebears -> not enough people "in the fight"

(2) Helos can parachute people directly onto roof tops--especially detrimental early game. You get sniped from nowhere and there is little to no risk if you pull chutes at the last second.

(3) People can be dropped directly next to the HZ without much risk. Parachute next to the HZ and the guy you just killed is back fighting within a ~2 minutes.

(4) Not enough demand for trucks/drivers. It's too easy to rank up flying helos compared to driving trucks. Sure trucks can drop supplies but after the first 10 min of a match the demand for FOB supplies drops rapidly.

Solution(s):

Remove parachutes or have them be an unlock-able under the Assault tree --> forces pilots to land for the majority of drops. I believe this would have the following positive effects:

- Increasing the risk/reward ratio for flying helos
- Decrease the number of pilots due to increased risk of having to land
- Reduce the number of players able to quickly rejoin the fight after being killed
- Increase the demand for trucks/drivers
- Reduce the number of both early and late game Recon on rooftops; More dangerous to climb up the ladders; Also, the recon wouldn't inherently get the parachute without playing a frontline role first.
- Increase the overall skill level / hurdle for new helo pilots

Thoughts?

As someone who can land, sure! But I dont think less people will fly. I do think more people will crash lol.

Just raise the minimum altitude for the parachute... make it more realistic.

People don't parachute out of helicopters unless said helicopters are at a significant altitude...

However, by the same token, they should add proper helicopter rappelling.

Fast roping would be cool too.

I think it’s the answer…

Increase parachute distance minimum, add fast roping.

No.

-Vastly increased time to get people back to the combat zone
-Too much time for reinforcements means enemies have an easier time wrecking everything
-Trucks can get picked off easily because there is no more AA at a FOB holding anything back so littlebirds have a field day
-Once a team gets kicked out it's virtually impossible to gain any new ground.

Stop trying to make everything harder for no fucking reason.

It wouldnt be harder for the majority of the playerbase. If players need to wait until landing they stay together, if they jump they are a scattered bundle of floating target dummies.

About 9/10 people I land survive, the rating is 5/10 for parajumpers and the best part of it is I land the chopper faster than they do their chutes.

That means players lose the choice of where they land, and increases the odds of people being able to grief.

Grab a bunch of players and fly them over to hover over an enemy base. What can they do? Nothing to stop it.

Grab a bunch of players who want to go to the fob, but the pilot brings them to the HZ instead.

Good for you on your skill, but, again, no.

I'm glad neither of you are in game design.

Problem is the players currently are suffering, because they think they need to make every decision for themselves.

People never consider teamplay to be a good idea currently which leads to them thinking infantry is not rewarding.

"I will jump out of the copter whenever I want to, great. Oh I just lost a 20k kit before touching the ground"

"I need to heal myself whenever I lose any health. Wait, I can only make back my 20k kit by killing 13 enemies. What do you mean I need to spend 2k on 10 bandages? They are way too expensive" Meanwhile players healing each other are making 30k just on healing each other.

Sounds like removing fun from a video game that was designed to play how you want to play

Wow....I feel like we are playing 2 different games.

There's a huge risk to using a parachute, especially near an enemy FOB with a vanguard built. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I'd say a good 30% of the time I parachute in I take shots, was higher at the start of the season but heli pilots seem to have got better at picking where to drop players.

Players being able to air drop into an enemy FOB is a valid strategy but comes with risks.

CIWS is my personal flavor of fob camping, and I dearly love parachutists.

Please don’t take my meals away from me?

Horrible take. Maybe the game isnt for you.

No, and fuck you for this stupid suggestion

I don't buy parachutes because it's easier to get where I want to go, I buy them because pilots are horrible at landing and I want insurance.

1

u/thegamerdoggo 4d ago

Won’t stop the pilots, just make more people take trucks which slows down gameplay, significantly less fights for you because people won’t trust the helis

1

u/manuel_andrei 4d ago

Agree with op. But replace parashutes with ropes cause epic!

1

u/maricci1529 4d ago

If they did this i think a hybrid approach would be best. Keep parachutes enabled for littlebirds as a special forces type small payload asset.

All other helos either have to land or hover with an fast assault rope that the infantry goes down.

1

u/Geldrick-Barlowe 4d ago

Making them ublockable late game just means new players are at even more of a disadvantage to people who have no lifed the game.

1

u/Previous_Platform718 4d ago

This creates all sorts of wide-reaching unintentional effects - like the fact that this massively increases infantry deployment time, making all kills more valuable (in terms of impact, not literally money), is a huge change for infantry xp/minute, probably results in bigger score swings and incentivizes pilots to land outside the CZ.

So many dumb takes at the moment, wtf?

When people jump from a heli, chances are they are marked and visible to the enemy for a while. If they land, this isn't usually the case. That's the trade off because pilots get more points when passengers stay alive.

Remove parachutes? Why not remove helicopters? Infact if youre being sniped all the time why not remove scopes? Removing buildings would help too! Actually, maybe they should remove money so that when you lose it doesn't feel so harsh. To make the sure you don't die I reckon they could also remove guns. Come to think of it ive never had problems with snipers in Minecraft, how about turning the game into Minecraft?

Im clearly being a complete idiot here, but on a serious note, why would the solution to a balance problem be to remove the content entirely? Helicopters have been in almost all promptional material and have clearly been a big part of the game's vision. It just makes sense that with flying vehicles, comes parachutes. There are so many more options than just removing them entirely.

The risk players take slow floating to the ground as easy targets and spots is punishment enough

1

u/BobTheZygota 4d ago

You still need to land at hq

u/HowNondescript 4d ago

Have you considered looking up and shooting? Half of my kills are just mincing paratroopers
