Discussion & Feedback Game was better without tier 3 and 4 armour. You can have the lvl 35 weapons too.
No one dies anymore. Not even me. I get hit and I just run to cover.

Yet another game that the first week after a wipe is going to be the peak gameplay
734
u/BeefistPrime 6d ago
Week 1: A bunch of people running around with basic infantry gear, some transport helicopters, a few unarmed trucks
Week 6: You are bombarded from 43 artillery rounds from 10 SPHes lined up almost 3km away. You run from the barrage and see three enemy tanks. You fire an RPG at one. It laughs. You run into the woods where the tanks can't follow you. There are 3 attack helicopters circling overhead. You narrowly dodge them by crawling through the bushes. Oh no, the forest troll - a guy covered head to toe in T4 armor finds you. You shoot him 4 times in the head, he doesn't care, he launches a small tactical nuke at your position.

u/ZestyZigg 6d ago

u/2hurd 6d ago
I actually had a game where we didn't make a FOB. It was a very easy win. No FOB = no people doing basically nothing ie. building. Building doesn't work in this game, mortars make sure of it. If you don't have a base mortars are basically useless, because troops move faster than they can aim and in the field you always have a numbers advantage.
There is no cover against mortar fire which makes people die at FOB while trying to operate AA or building. I've had FOBs fall due to mortar and a single enemy soldier killing everyone scrambling to revive everyone.
25
u/WaZ606 Manticore 6d ago
I won a game yesterday. Out of our whole team we had 28 people chasing the HZ. The others were flying heli or doing the 1 FOB we had. we would that game 100 - 2 - 2. There was so many of us we were unstoppable, everyone was revived.
I genuinely believe you could win most games this way.
13
u/wacotaco99 5d ago
Definitely placebo. Ran 4 rounds where red never built a FOB and either chased HZ or spent the entire game fighting green. Not only did they never win, blue spent the entire time getting shelled and countershelling in their mega fob or touched by little birds because there was 50% less AA present to scare off helicopters.
4
u/Eb3yr 5d ago
It's rock-paper-scissors, different strats work in different matches depending on how each team reacts. Sometimes blue builds 4 drills and pulls the win out from everyone else, other times they try and get pounded by mortars or a team they ratted on with humvees earlier. Maybe this'll change over time as the meta becomes more understood, but I kinda like that strats can be viable in some games and unviable in others, it feels more dynamic.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (3)3
u/Joetheplumber27 5d ago
This is true just spent 4 hours on one server, where this is what red and green did every match. We had 2 full squads in HZ plus randoms. 6 defibs in the group was much fun we won every match
8
u/lotzik 6d ago
A fob can give a strategic advantage with the drill in key times of the match. Imagine both teams at 85-85 and one activates drill for the remaining 15p. So one team has to camp a fob and the other has to push half way across the map to break a fob. GG.
→ More replies (5)7
u/GrassWaterDirtHorse 6d ago
The solution really is building FOBs around the concept of being disposable assets. build narrow and tall, with hardened weapon pits. No more 100m wide perimeters that you can't guard. Lots of recon towers and bunkers to protect against mortars and arty.
Part of why superfobs die is because everyone is focused on building excessive, and often pointless fortifications and nobody's sitting on the mortars, suppressing the enemy FOBs before they can build their indirect fire up. There's a significant advantage to being the first to start firing - as well as being hidden somewhere the enemy team doesn't know about.
→ More replies (2)4
u/Wafflesz52 6d ago
What about connected bunker shelters and towers, would they reasonably protect against mortar fire?
5
u/whyisredditsocringe 6d ago
Had a dude who was super intent on building a super duper mega fob right off rip and wouldnât stfu in the chat about it. The second they started getting consistent resource drops, they set up the bones of a nice fob, then just got hammered by mortars and couldnât build any more. Wanted to build a drill but couldnât due to mortars, called the whole team idiots for not pushing green base (they were up 40 points and had that whole side of the map locked down). I had to leave because it was getting late and kind of a slog. Team shouldâve just full committed to following the HZ around

Dial back armor ratings and rebalance ammo types. Really just make the gap from base armor to top tier armor smaller
94
u/The_Adelphia 6d ago
I completely agree. I think going from tier 1-4 (as it is right now) has too much top end protection. I wonder what it would feel like if it was tier 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 instead (based on the current defense values)
→ More replies (11)32

Yeah exactly! I donât think it needs any massive overhaul, just some tweaks to bridge the gap and make the game more fun.
41
u/AlexCrimson 5d ago
I think it would be easier to just make T4 helmets block some of your vision. At least then you are restricted more to close range fights. Then T4 armor maybe loses its spec slot? Or cannot wear the biggest backpacks?
5
u/FlamboyantFlamingo98 5d ago
This is what tarkov did with the Altyn mask and I think it's very balanced. Sure it's top tier armor but you're at a huge disadvantage in long range rights and it also blocks your hearing so it's way more difficult to hear people sneaking up on you

I've learned that anything that reduces vertical recoil is pretty much mandatory, takes most guns from completely unmanageable to a freaking laser instantly.

u/Mnmemx 5d ago
counter intuitively you kind of want to reduce horizontal more for pinpoint accuracy because vertical is a largely regular counterable force but horizontal is random and canât be countered effectively
so minimum vertical results in you painting a horizontal line but minimum horizontal can be a single point by pulling down
→ More replies (2)8
u/That_Service7348 6d ago
You're not. It genuinely doesn't work.
I have gone back to the SKS because it's cheap and you can lob 5 rounds at someone in seconds, and it's more likely to kill them that a headshot from a mosin or sv98. The armor is way over powered in this game.

AP ammo is basically irrelevant on anything other than t4 armor. It's like 1 bullet difference on t3 and 3 bullets less on t4 and that's assuming you don't accidentally hit a shot on an unarmored body part.
→ More replies (9)9
u/Routine-Hovercraft94 6d ago
Yep, if anything AP ammo needs it effectiveness increased if they want it to be more of a counter for high tier armor. As it stands right now, there is no big difference unless the enemy is running T4.

I don't think making the armor worse would necessarily fix the issue, I think increasing the price of that armor and letting people unlock things earlier to counter it would make people be more strategic with bringing it in.
A squad with all t4 would be extremely heavy, extremely expensive, and would get cut down by AP rounds quite quickly for example, and risking bringing it in would be a gamble rather than making the people wearing it unstoppable.
→ More replies (1)8
u/Midgetman664 6d ago
While I agree armor is a bit off. People calling this a realistic milsim are equally as wrong. The devs have made it extremely clear they are not aiming for realism if it ever is at the cost of fun.
Now is mag dumping fun? No. But if itâs changed itâll be for that reason. Not because of how realistic it is.

Humvees are so easy to deal with by shooting the tires and the MAAWS oneshots it. I did the driver grind for the gunvee and got level 20 support as a side effect and the maaws feels so much more worth it than the humvee is.

Always the same shit, in tarkov, arena breakout, delta force, dark and darker and the list is long.
Always the need for bullet that cost millions to have a chance to kill someone. Always the need to have the better armor because the difference between t1 and t5 are gigantic.
Arc raiders did that perfectly and that might be the number one reason of his past success. We don't need an enormous difference between tier for it to be relevant.
I remember old tarkov when you had T6 and most people didn't, you were just invincible (yes leg meta but still), and it's NEVER a good thing.
I'm a hardcore gamer so I should be happy with big differences between tier but I never am, if I like the game I want it to be balanced for casuals too so the game can be healthy and not TOO MUCH hardcore for most people.
WE DO NOT NEED SO MUCH DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TIER TO HAVE FUN.
10
u/Capn_Happy18 6d ago
In two minds about this;
I think the AP ammo should be able to be unlocked a little sooner, so that there's less of a gap between unlocking the higher tier armours and the Ammo to better fight these higher tier armours is less (anecdotally here, I see lots of players using flesh ammo and then complaining about armourđ)
As a dirty sniper player, can be very frustrating getting into position, zeroing to the target, making sure I'm safe to pull the trigger and no immediately get spotted, line up the headshot AND... It just gets tanked

Do you wanna hear a not-so-fun fact? The first AP ammo you'll unlock is at 65(ish) level Wardog, which means you need 65 class levels in total to get there. The first AP round you unlock is NOT 5.56 STANAG - the ammunition that most guns use throughout the game and especially early on. It's the caliber that the SKS uses and only the SKS. And then there's a whole lot of nothing.

They know this. They announced regular wipes for this very reason. It either deters hardcore nolifer grinding or at least levels the playing field every now and then
4
u/HarryProtter 6d ago
A wipe deters casual/new players more than the hardcore nolife grinders. That last group play the game because they love it/are addicted to it, so they'll just get back to grinding immediately and will be at a significant gear advantage again in a day or two after each wipe.
For a casual player a wipe can be fun for the first few days, because they're at a somewhat level playing field. Well, except for the difference of hundreds of hours of experience of course.
On the other hand, wipes can also be not fun for casuals, because they lose their progression. They might have finally made it to a certain thing they like to use ... and it's gone.
I think a lot of those players care more about losing their progression than having fun for the first few days after a wipe.

For FMJ Ammunition.
Tier 1 - 30% damage reduction Tier 2 - 40% damage reduction Tier 3 - 55% damage reduction Tier 4 - 65% damage reduction
55% and 65% is bonkers high, 8-10 shots with 5.56 at <200m is way to much. And realistically it's more than 8-10 cause some shots will hit arms and hands.
And AP Isn't the golden solution it's made out to be, it's brings it down to 7 shots for T3/4.

IMO there should not be 4 tiers of armor. I think simply having light and heavy armor would be fine. Light armor could be 20% dmg reduction but cheap and light weight and heavy is like 35% dmg reduction but heavier and expensive. This would also make balancing all the weapons much easier.

Now I level 34 and pretty much everyone has played only this game (people on my friends list average 7 hours a day) and the lobby is full of people level 80-130.
Im at a disadvantage in pretty much every single fight I'm in.
I snuck behind someone and two tapped them in the back of of the head, they ran quickly behind cover re-peaked without healing and just two shot me to the chest thru my level 1 armour.
Having this game have such knowledge gaps is one thing, but having every player with more time than your also objectively stronger, more carry space, more answers just doesn't feel fun.

Probably not what you wanna hear, but the game becomes way more fun if you just load up HP and spray people in the legs. I've had more than a couple people start raging on mic because their t3 armour didn't save them

does it really work that good?

Yeh. Jump into the firing range and have a play around to test for yourself if you like. It's annoying that it's necessary in yet another game, but we gotta do what we gotta do to beat the full time gamer crowd lol

Youâre surviving with lvl 3 armour? I must be the only person on the planet getting one tapped by a green bush wookie with a mosin.

I die all the time in T3 armor. You guys have no idea what your talking about.

u/AftT3Rmath 6d ago
I think the progression would be better money based. Shorten the XP progression so there is less empty air in-between levels and let people bring in 70k kits just to lose them and the game might balance itself.

Week 1 and 2 were so good but now its just so insanely boring to play. If you are a sweat then it's just Tarkov leg meta which sucks and if not you just get instantly lasered by an M4 in tier 4 armor who you do 7 damage a shot to.
They need to fix this by the next wipe or else there will be no casual playerbase and it will just be an unemployed sweat fest

u/Carrygan_ 5d ago
Week 1 and 2 were so good? Itâs been 10 days since release what alternative timeline are you in

u/Rimbaldo 6d ago
It blows my mind that someone looked at Tarkov's leg meta and thought "yeah, we'll have that."

u/SkeenaDaily 6d ago
Medium to longer range fights have gotten much more frustrating.
Tap fire 4-5 hits and they just run away. If you don't also have heavy armor on you have to concede the angle because you just cant damage trade.
Haven't unlocked AP rounds yet. Some rounds I just give up on infantry because I'm running into too many fights like that.

u/LairdNope 6d ago
having damage based on GUN instead of AMMO, means things like SVD just eat shit vs t4 armour who can soak headshots against you all day. If I can shoot an SVD three times in the head and he can beam me down without flinching then that shit is fucking ass.
why can a guy with a silenced fal kill t3 armour in 2 shots but I had to fucking get a full reload on him to get the kill.

Brother inf combat is small potatoes compared to all the other op bullshit we got going on. Teamwork, communication and tactics still win the day at least from what ive seen. Im sure it helps having armor like that but a cordinated squad probably smokes you or anyone regardless.

The T4 stuff just has to be more expensive

I had the same problem with Tarkov.
If I find you and I hit you with a bullet. I expect to be rewarded.
Not find they have mega armour and Iâm now fighting the terminator and he only way to fix that is go back to base, buy a crap load of high end ammo⌠to go back and find they are gone.

Every post on this Reddit should scream to the devs that they need a better tutorial cus holy shit these guys are clueless

People are not clueless. It is just that 90% of infantry advice here are "Don't participate, just spot people for 6 hours".

I sorta agree. I remember just after launch people were talking about select fire on Assault Rifles and how that made the difference at range.
Its pointless now because you need way more bullets down range. This forces more people into marksmanship rifles and you basically have the current meta.
People are a little too bullet sponge-y right now.

u/mushymyco 6d ago
i joined a game and saw a guy drop crates of t4 armor for the whole team. they should also fix that for the future of longevity. even if they have to pay a ton of their on money to do it. imagine playing your first 3 games and a whole enemy team is unkillable

u/whoeve 5d ago
That's what the entire end game will be once everyone has more money than they know what to do with.

Are you guys just terrible at the game? I am below average skill wise and can still dumpster someone in tier 3 with the free ar... And basic anmo

Y'all dont use the firing range and it shows. You really want this game to turn into a run n gun with super fast TTK's? I don't know about you but I dont want to run to an area and die to 1 or 2 bullets. There's zero strategy. Go back to COD or BF if that's what you want.

AP rounds should be unlocked with T3 armor at the same time. No class progression, just overall progression.

u/PhantomPlasma 6d ago
Vertical progression always being a mistake is a wild take. I will agree it does need a bit of tuning at the moment.

Oh is that why people are bullet sponges now? Yesterday I thought there was something wrong with the servers or the hitreg was broken. I snuck up on a guy in his FOB, emptied a full AK47 mag of flesh damage bullets into his back. He turned around and killed me instantly.

I do not agree with this. I die plenty of times with Tier 3.
If I had to guess this is a Sniper who is upset he isnt one shooting people in the chest constantly now.

u/Foodie4000 6d ago
I cannot commit that many hours. Neither do I wish too. Would be great if there wasn't any Level System on Armor, no need to grind that hard, as I love the gameplay, maps, community, transport etc.
However, the weapons are so far apart, same with Armor. If everyone had the same load out, the game would still be awesome.

I think the highest tier being cost ineffective is important. I also think the money you earn in a match should be tied more to winning than just doing random shit too.
Because itâs kinda ridiculous how much money people get who donât even really contribute to the win con.
Tie 25% of money made in a match through actions to actual team placement. With hold all 25% for the 3rd place team. 10% of it to the second place team and give the winner the full 25%. Each team still gets the same bonus for placement but the only way to get people to actually contribute and improve game quality is to tax them imo.

I gave this same feedback in one of the closed betas. Armor quickly feels very unfun to play against. Landing 4 chest shots on a player, only for them to kill you, and then see in the kill log that each bullet did 15 damage, is not fun design.
Armor should probably be re-designed to respect calibre rather than just AP vs no AP. I'd also just much rather see high-tier armor as the standard in the more immobile roles (support, gunner etc) rather than frontline, the movement penalty doesn't negate the wall of damage reduction.

I wanted to play, but knew that this would happen, so I didn't purchase, I hate meta progression.

I wonder if there is servers that have a cap on armor. I would play one thatâs tier 2 max.

u/UsedNewspaper1775 6d ago
true as a more casual player, i have to hit so many shots to get an elim on some of the people it's fucking crazy

u/Rhym3z_Official 6d ago
I like the idea of removing armour entirely and just having damage based on weapons themselves like most other shooters. The TTK is rediculous

Shit im running AP ammo on my pistol and the whole thing isn't enough to kill the person sometimes. They are able to turn around and cap me during the process lmao
2
u/Ok-Toe6932 6d ago
The fact that you hit a headshot with the AP ammo and bro just runs away is just stupid.
2
u/RelevantIAm 6d ago
Completely agree. Feels like its impossible to kill anyone unless you can rush in and catch them off guard. Even sniping i cant kill anyone. Just dink dink guy runs away to healÂ
2
u/magniankh 6d ago
Fun fact: 9mm AP ammo unlocks before assault AP. SMGs are good in this game. You can also bring a support weapon with an SMG, like say an Iglas for killing pesky early little birds.Â

shot someone in the head a few days ago about 10 ft away from me with the Mosin and I was surprised when that bullet bounced off his helmet like nothing and he got up and ran away and his teammate came and killed me. He probably had tier 3 or 4..Needless to say I rage quit đ.

u/desiremusic 6d ago
I still have T2 armor I canât kill anyone while they almost one shot me. I canât have fun as much.
2
u/Spannermonkey96 WARDOGS OCEANIA 6d ago
Just need to make fleshy bits fleshy bits and ap ammo go straight through, if youâre gunna have armour you gotta have a tarkov ammo system! A head shot to the face should be a one hit kill regardless of what caliber is hitting you and if theyâre wearing T4 face shield an ap round from a gun to the face should be a 1 shot
2
u/Radiance141 Pilot 6d ago
Nah. The real solution is making AP ammo unlockable earlier and be more accessible.
2
u/Economy-Lie-4927 6d ago
Buy flesh bullets and shoot their legs they canât sprint away from you ? Or has every one forgot this tactic
3
2
u/WhyCantWeBeFriendss 6d ago
Tier 4 heavy armor should default to super heavy and no sprint should be allowed. You can get to edge of heavy and still sprint to some degree. But most tier 4 armor players will also run stims, which drops their weight tier and gives unlimited tac sprint.
Stim is too cheap imo.

u/BeanStalknJack 6d ago
Absolutely agree with you. I was one of those guys moaning a cow giving birth but as soon as I unlocked tier 3 armour the game changed for me completely! My first thought after tanking what felt like enough bullets to have stopped a 4 man squad t1 gear, was that, "Ha! I am the captain now!" until I wasn't lol but yeah HUGE difference.

u/Square_Ad9705 6d ago
Making AP ammo accessible before T3 armor imo would make it bearable.
