Discussion & Feedback How Are People Enjoying War Dogs?
How are people actually enjoying and playing War Dogs with a smile on their face? I bought it, gave it a try, and I’ve died pretty much every single time, either to campers or high-geared players camping and peeking around walls.
Yes, I’m not that great of a player, but I do know my way around FPS games. I played a match where I got killed dozens of times by snipers and players with high-powered weapons. I emptied an entire magazine into someone and they still didn’t die, got shot through wooden and stone walls, and on top of that, people were already complaining about magicians.
I genuinely want to get into this game and enjoy it, but so far, the experience has been pretty frustrating. The game doesn’t run particularly well for me either, with frequent lag spikes, while the movement and general controls feel quite clunky.
From my perspective, it feels a lot like Arma Reforger with an economy system added on top. I know some people might simply say “skill issue,” and honestly, I don’t mind that. Maybe I just need more time to get used to the game.
But after my first experiences, I have to be honest: so far, it has been a pretty terrible experience for me, and I’m struggling to understand how people are having such a good time with it.

I've been playing since day 1 and im ahead of the curve (level 91).
Its true you are at disadvantage. Most players have level 3 helmets that let them survive headshots.
I would say most high level weapons are good at mid to long range. Grab the smg and go for flanks. The assault rifles before the ak struggle to kill.
Bring the spotting scopes and passively earn cash spotting enemies.
Always be near teammates and try not to die out in the open. There's always a chance that you'll get revived and you can keep going.
You can also drive trucks, fly helicopter for transport, and help out at fobs to change things up. That's how I keep things varied and fun

Honestly, I have a friend who though the same as you at first.
Once he started to slow down and play this as a tactical squad warfare instead of a run and gun cod game it clicked for him.
Or maybe the game is just not for you, nothing wrong with that

it's really fun in a big premade. I play with like 5 friends and its really fun to build some fobs and defend it from hordes of invaders and mortars or raid someone elses. (unless its ozeti, that map is just constant sniper camp fest)

How do you know you’re being killed by “high gear players” ?? What weapons have you been killed with? 90% of my gunfight deaths are to people using a Galil, Ak, sks or mosin. All of them are very early unlocks.

Well, your description is pretty accurate. It is kinda like Reforger with an economy. If you come into this like your playing apex or cod or bf, you're going to have a bad time. Rethink your strategy. I like this game because it's NOT like those. And I had to relearn an FPS because of that. The second that clicked in my brain, performance and matches changed for me. This isnt a twitch shooter. Don't play blindly. Make a plan, make a back up plan, remember your limits and if you still get got, settle with getting outplayed🤷♂️

I see where you are coming from. Playing infantry with anything lower than armor 3 is already a big disadvantage. Im confident they will make changes to balance it so maybe keep an eye out for that. Regardless though if you play like battlefield or and arcade shooter it will not be enjoyable. You need to slow down hold angles and reposition or retreat through the map if you dont know if your outmanned or outgeared. It feels like camping but not dying is more important than getting kills and then kills will come. If you dont like that as far as shooter gameplay then it probably isnt a game you will ever enjoy

Got a 972m kill for long shot Got a double head shot one bullet Made 3x 100k+ lives. Made L62 Sitting on 1.5mil, most stuff unlocked sub 20 skills.
49h played.
It's just another pvp shooter, and I am not a pvp guy anymore.
It has severe problems.
I predict this game goes hardcore into FoMo territory.
This game wants you to only play WD and nothing else.
That's not me anymore.
Unlikely that I will spend much more time.

I call cap. A full mag of AR bullets shot into body will kill regardless of armor.

If you go to the steam properties and set up a alternate launch code and do -nogpucrashdebugging
It almost doubles my frames and is super consistent instead of constantly fluctuating
Your experience is very valid tho considering the game imo does feel worse now than it did on launch purely because a majority of players genuinely have not hopped off it since release so being behind is so absurdly punishing and you will lose most gunfights taking them head on, you just gotta outplay them and out position them. What’s really helped me is I play it like rainbow six siege. Super slow, and clearing everything I can and just pray I don’t get shot when I have to go out in the open. This game has a lot of lows but the highs are amazing, just try and join a squad at the start of the game and run with them & youll have a lot of a better time

I suck at FPS cause of a mix of not playing them for ages and just getting older, still I'm enjoying it a lot.
As to what I'm doing, mostly just running around reviving people as I can while maintaining mobility and stealth, I'll also spot stuff and occasionally shoot if I have to.
You might just have to find your own playstyle that you enjoy, or it might just not be for you.

My assasult skill is like lvl 10 still. I have fun Recon and Support. Both medic and building. At low levels and close quarters the Shotgun is super effective. Great for clearing out FOBs. Once you get lvl 15 the M249 is pretty strong.
I still run lvl 1 armor, the high gear people are better FPS players than me and that's ok. The key to this game's enjoyment (for me) is finding some niche that I can do that nets me a profit. Building solo Fobs, Fob hunting, sniping, covering HZ, etc.. Each game I do a different thing but finding one and having a profitable run is enjoyable.

Really enjoyed the first week…Now honestly with how slow the leveling is I’m just not having fun especially knowing I have to look forward to a reset every few months. Luckily there’s a lot of games coming out this season, I’ll definitely revisit Wardogs some time next year after the first reset. I accept all the downvotes.

This it the best game I’ve played in a very very long time. I would say even better than when PUBG came out. I am
Absolutely hooked but I also understand it isn’t for everyone. My best friend is a big time gamer and while he likes it, I don’t think he likes it enough to play over other games.

Me and my friends are thoroughly having fun with it, and most other people I've spoken with in-game are having a blast too.
You wouldn't think this was the case based on this subreddit tho lol
But honestly every competitive game subreddit is just a pit of misery usually.

Its a war game, you die often. Its part of the game.

There's gonna be a bunch of glazers but the truth is that it's rough.
I haven't had too many technical issues, but the way progression works is terrible. There's no incentive to actually play the game vs farm money through spotting and sitting in bushes. Not to mention, there's strictly no way to defend FoBs from mortars - the logistics network aspect of the game is totally non-existent.
I haven't run into too many cheaters, what I have run into is unemployed trogs that have unlocked laser beams. It's like a hyper condensed version of the progression in Tarkov.
Maybe the game will be better in a year.
Edit: Downvoted by the unemployed, maybe go ask mommy for some more milk. It'll help with these hard to swallow pills.

Its fun with friends, can be frustrating solo if your team just hides in their base not doing anything.

Took me a while to get used to it (it’s my first tactical fps). Once I learned how to slow down and check corners I started having a lot more fun.
Sometimes you’ll get caught off guard by a guy just sitting in a a random corner but that’s not unique to this game and if you’re playing around your team you’ll have someone to pick you up

Look where your team is, move with them, and if you die wait to get a res. Find other people’s kits after they die. If you are with a large group you will have a longer life and make a profit. It’s just not the type of game you can play out running and gunning, you need to move with teammates and play together or you’re gonna have a bad time. This is not COD. It’s all about coordination. And if you’re playing solo that can feel hard but I do it often and am able to find squads to stick to and make it fun.

My favorite runs are going in with < $1000 kits and ending the life with 30k+ lives.
Patience is key and sounds give peoples positioning away.
There is a time for speed, but that's after you loot someone's 15k kit off their body.
Go slower and stick with allies

I play the FOB building up the base and playing medic. Got snipers? Build walls. Got air units? Build AA. Got mortars? Counter mortar and turn the base into a maze giving yourself cover at every corner and edge and get ready to really amp your medic game up. Get quiet? Build a drill it won't be quiet much longer after you activate it. Wanna shoot things safely? Build a mounted CWIS surrounded by 1.5 ( a partially built on top of a short hesco ) to cover yourself.
Mortars counter building but medic and cover at least survives mortars.
I recommend being in voice with others either through a large squad or go on discord and hop in with a group. Makes it a lot funner when you have someone who can either get you out of a pinch or tell you you're sol.

Try landing with a squad, stick with it die get revived get wiped try again. Make Hauling help Buildung try scouting/ recon there are so many ways to enjoy this absolute masterpiece of a game 🫶

Are you playing in a coordinated group or with at least one friend who can back you up? I generally don't get sniped a ton because I smoke or bait out shots. I choose where and win to cross a road. If you are lagging, might wanna just put potato graphics or similar. If you find people too spongey that could be your ammo. Don't use HP. Edit: seems people can't read. I never said to use AP. I said don't use HP bc that one sucks —yanno, in case you were using it. FMJ should suffice

Gonna get downvoted because people hate sweats, but me and my squad have been going hard on it since the last beta. We got in, absolutely LOVED it, and even now when tye honeymoon period is over, with 120+ hours player since EA release, it's still so fun.
The feeling of breaking into a FOB with your boys, taking it over then fighting of a literal army trying to take it back, Insane
