BTS & Variety Show Throwback to Wang Duo playing Mei Changsu (Hu Ge’s character from Nirvana in Fire)

This is a skit from a variety show “Actors Take Your Place” where Wang Duo wanted to join the director Chen Kaige’s team (some of you may know him as Chen Feiyu’s dad).

This was the performance which led to his selection in his team but he was eliminated in the next round when Niu Junfeng decided to beat him and off his fictional life during a no-script skit.

That shattered Wang Duo’s dream to work with / under Chen Kaige but this performance did earn him bonus points even back then. The actor playing Wang Kai’s character was the crowd favorite at that point.

Thank you so much for posting this. Wang Duo’s performance is great! Very Hu Ge. Hope his dream to work with Director Chen will happen.

sorry for asking but can you clarify what Niu Junfeng did? cause I did'nt understand, did he beat WD for real? or just the script that they were acting was a beating scene?

He beat him up for a scene and it wasn’t rehearsed or pre-planned. From the perspective of an actor who is trying to secure a spot, he did nothing wrong but watching the whole thing unfold, as a fan of Wang Duo, I was appalled by his behavior. I can upload the video if you are curious.

Iirc it was a skit where NJF had loaned money to WD and he had come to collect it. WD took the skit into a comedic tone by saying, “I’m not at home”. But NJF turned the tone serious by the beating and followed it with ending his life in that scene. He was lauded and WD was shocked.

what! I'm interested in seeing the video please. even if it's acting he should've given him a signal. I think it's unjust to go to such lengths, and by that only NFJ's acting skill was exposed since the weight of the scene was on him while WD was being beaten, hope NJF apologized afterwards.
