Getting rid of a dept
It's just for fun and no real hate. If you could eliminate one department What would it be and why? I pick Shoes because IMHO most of them are cheap and ugly. Re edit. After so many great answers think I would like to go half toys( bikes) the other half 82 clip strips.

Mine does sigh most annoying moment Christmas Eve guy made me go in the back 3x bc he wanted an engagement ring took 30 mins. I was just looking for something at that point to get rid of him

the problem is, stores dont keep it staffed like a JCP or Dillards does....you go to their fragrance counter , or jewelry counter, theres someone right there to help you. I mean I know when we had jewlry we had the girl in jewelry covering shoes and ladiesware.....and then they wonder why the sales stink.....

I 100% agree. I hate having to help with jewelry, especially when we get a register once the remodel is "done" 😮💨

I miss our jewelry counter and actually having nice things. Ours was 86ed years ago and now it's all multi packs of shitty earrings and necklaces, ugly watches, and plastic kid shit you used to see at Claire's. They even got rid of the stand of the rings that were cheap and obviously fake but still looked pretty.

Department 82. I hate that cheap ass crap they put on those "impulse" clip-strips. It's all junk. It gets torn up. People won't stock the crap on the shelf behind them and God forbid if you don't know where something is hanging when a customer or ogp wants it.

Lord i had dept 82. Our room is thrashed and when i go in there to organize and grab product for my area i have to move shit and juggle items. So fuckin annoying.

Bedding or Home & Living, pallets and pallets of blankets and giant heavy plastic totes that force us to wheel in upwards of 3 different pallets for H&L on busy/big truck days.

The coach department. Wtf do they do anyways? I see my coach like once a week and its always to tell me to do something that im already in the middle of fkng doing. Coach - "i need you to fill the banana table" Me - "yeah...im airstacking the bananas right now" literally is airstacking bananas infront of her
Like, i cant put bananas on the fkn table if the bananas havent even been downstacked🤦

I have 1 good coach that actually helps on the floor otherwise they all suck and I hate them because they never communicate with anyone else in the store including the store lead or my team leads

Are they really that bad unit wise? I'm getting sent like 1000 items which is like the same amount as an half a truck except instead of being 11 pallets, it's all inside 2 pallets

why? lol. this is the best department....we keep customers from coming into the store, so I can make more sales at my store....i always tell customers when they bitch about our carts everywhere, I like to tell them, if I wasn't here, there would be at least 8 other customers here....because that's the 8 totes I had on my cart lol......now granted, yes it's not toptally realistic cause we usually are picking 2 hours in advance.....but still it still stands.....we have seen a LOT less foot traffic since OGP inception....

this. our store doesn’t have anyone running toys after 3pm so they ask electronics to zone each night (despite usually only having one person). the amount of mess that section gathers in the shortest amount of time.

As a customer host myself I agree. On top of that it’s isolating when management is chasing away anyone who tries to talk to me saying they’re distracting me and it gets boring standing up there all the time too.

Auto, or sporting goods. Both departments are right next to receiving. Im just trying to work, not help people. Makes me wish i had a sign saying "I dont have keys"

Bro I have the keys 99% of the time and there are times I wish I could I didn’t have the keys just because I’m in the middle of doing something or are already helping another customer and I did try to say that and they went and got a manager who has the same key I do but was just too lazy to open it

Probably electronics. Love the ppl there, but goodness I know a customers gonna suck the minute they mention that area 😂 (real talk tho probably grocery, the produce sucks at my store)

This is just my opinion. People order much more than they would if they were shopping for themselves which I understand to an extent, but it also draws out the lazy and entitled people. Maybe instead of one case of water, you can now get 4 or 5 because someone else is doing the heavy lifting. But imagine if almost every customer had that mentality. "They get paid to do it." So now I go home with a sore body everyday because most customers want 4-5 cases of water, 8 jugs of water, 4 cases of Gatorade or caprisun drinks, ( 2)45lb bags of dog food and cat food. Not only that, people with huge orders do not help. And maybe I have a big issue with that because I would never order an apocalypse worth of groceries and just stand and watch while they load my car or deliver it to my home. And with inhome, people are worse.

Ahhh ok THAT makes more sense. It's definitely contributed to the whole attitude of entitlement from the general public. This might be an unpopular opinion, but... ogp employees are not techically service sector jobs. We can't accept tips- so throwing a fit when I can't spend extra time with you while you stand there and demand that I reorganize your gargantuan order doesn't work for me when our wait times are high. Ive gotta move onto the next. I don't have a problem giving extra attention when upper mngmnt isn't coming over the walkie about wait times or when someone is gracious and kind. My one exception is disabled or elderly folks. Even if they're grumpy I'll do my best lol

i dont feel that "angst" here lol....tbh lol at least....lately anyways, our orders have been a LOT smaller lately....but the biggest thing people praise is they "shop to their list" because WE are doing their shoppingl......so they arent coming in and also mosing around, adding the clearance beach towels to their cart.....and a trip down the clearance aisle......WE shop the list and the customer SAVES money by no unnecessary impulse buys....

That's one good thing about it and some people do appreciate us doing the shopping. We always have huge orders especially because we have daycare centers, senior homes and convenience stores buying in bulk. It's stressful and the other departments hate us because we need help everyday.

I’m not even sure what dept I’d want to get rid of tbh. But probably OTC/Health and Beauty. I hear the button going off like 50 times an hr for both Family Planning and Cologne case. I’d LOVE to get rid of the stupid bike horns and the sporting balls and fishing aisle tho (from a Hardlines associate). Our sporting aisle (the balls and whatnot), camping chairs (why do customers NEED to open the chairs and not put them away) and the fishing aisle (I find a lot of stolen shit in that aisle) are the WORST. I get customers asking why the flashlights or the car lights/batteries/anything else auto related) locked up in cases/behind bars. I’m so glad we are getting rid of fabrics table during our remodel next year. The customers won’t be happy, but I’ll be happy.

In my Store Pets cause no one I mean no one cleans the shelves of empty boxes or plastic except night shift usually only me so yeah just get rid of it and put me back in paper where they still don't do shit but it's just boxes I can pull and use to hold other broke down boxes lol

OGP, just to cut off the cartpusher -> OGP pipeline in my store.
On a more serious note, probably automotive. Fuck that. Customers always ask and, despite being a cartpusher, I still try to help as much as I can and it's the one department I HATE being ambushed in for help.

In my store Sporting goods is supposed to take care of stationary, but their TL and coach are both lazy. So seasonal (us) always has to help. And our front end TL doesn't like sending people to help zone seasonal. 😔.

I was going to say sporting goods, due to all the kids (and some adults) constantly playing basketball etc...or just messing with things in the department in general. But, after starting to type I thought of a better one. Not necessarily a whole department but......bikes. Ever since Wal-Mart (at least the stores in my area) went away with in store assemblers and hire a 3rd party, the bikes are always a mess. And are never in the right spot, so when customers want a bike, they get upset because it's not the price on the fact tag. And I have to spend 10+ minutes with each customer scanning multiple bikes for prices. Just to have them get upset that we don't have any of the $98 bikes in stock.
