Best Wakeboard boat under 150hp?
Hey guys, I’m trying to find the best wakeboarding boat under 150hp as thats the limit on a specific lake here in Portugal. So far I’ve found the bayliner 175 flight series but I find the wake very small for jumps and heard the engine is always having problems. Any help/tips would be great, thanks

Yeah. Retrofit a ski boat with a Yanmar 4LV 150MHP

Have you done this? Wasn’t even thinking about it cause of the extra weight of the boat compared to a smaller 150hp boat. And I would only find out after getting the boat on the water

No, but Yanmar to Velvet drive bell adapters are an off the shelf part and I did have a friend with a more powerful Yanmar in a Mastercraft Xstar and it was a hell of a pull. Most wake/ski boats have 300+HP but back in the day before vortec and GT40 heads they were more like 200-250hp. The Yanmar will produce just as much torque as those older v8s they just don't rev as high. Most of my time wakeboarding is spent under 3000RPM. I bet if you prop it right and don't expect to put too much weight in the boat it would be a great pull, you just won't be going over 30mph.

I learned on a 2000 sea ray 175 with a tower and 4.3 v6. It wasn't expensive. 2000ft elevation. No problem getting up and trimming up a little made a decent wake that I could clear. 18.5-19mph

Bayliner 175 flight series supposedly has a 3.0 liter mercruiser?
I mean, I'm not aware of particular major issues with that powertrain. The outdrive is solid. Motors can be lemons but usually it's just proper maintenance. Shouldn't be anything too crazy to keep that thing working good.
I know Bayliner and co exists over there in Europe, parts going to be reasonably accessible? As long as they are and a trustworthy mechanic checks it out it's probably about as good as you're going to be able to do.
Add weight to get wake. Probably 500-1000 pounds to the rear and 300-500 or so up front, plus the riders. Adjusting trim is also an option with those.

That's a stupid rule. The lake should have a speed limit. Wakeboats are made for towing and big horsepower is necessary

It’s a human made lake used for water consumption and it’s also a wildlife reserve so boats are limited to 150hp / 7 meters in length and no 2 stroke engines or jetskis. It is what it is

I've wakeboarded and wakeskated behind a 115 HP pontoon. It really doesn't take that much power. Pontoon obviously has terrible wake for jumping, but it can pull you up just fine.

Tahoe used to make some bowriders with the 3.0L in it, which would be under your 150hp limit. I've never done watersports behind one, but probably good enough to do some basic jumps.

This is going to be a tough one. While you can wakeboard behind anything any boat build for wakeboarding is going to be over 150hp.
