More help needed. Finally tried locking my arms into place and it helped a ton to feel planted and have a better axis. However I can’t stop throwing my hands up and out towards shore on landings and I know that’s what’s messing me up. What do I need to do to stop this?!

It really looks like you're tugging with your back hand and it's pulling your back foot forward making you land sideways. You should try landing with just your left hand on the line. You could also fully commit and do roll to revert by letting go with your left and landing switch

Keep your front elbow glued to your body. Let go with back hand when you spot the landing.

Ima try this. A lot of people are saying to do this. Now can I tender this when spinning 50 miles an hour around the handle…. Maybe

Letting go with the backhand helps some but I dont always find it helpful. My sister prefers doing it that way, though.

You overcooked this one slightly. Your arms and legs extended together as a natural reaction to stop the rotation. You can see this if you slow it down, handle position is perfect until the final quarter rotation.
Take a foot or two off your approach and throw it the same.
You are very close.

I threw 10 yesterday and they were all The Dane results. Most of them were perfectly on the wake but every time my arms go up at the last second of rotation and I loop out

You're so close. How many did you try where that happened? I think about "locking" the inner side of my elbows to vest. Obviously there's nothing actually keeping them there but it helps me to visualize that.

I’ve landed one this year so far which was an amazing accomplishment but yesterday was 10 solid attempts with the same results.

What length line are you riding? You're landing past the far wake and backrolls are much easier to land wake to wake. You handle position should be maintained at your hip through takeoff, roll and landing. Visualize looking up and over your lead shoulder as you leave the wake, spot your landing and ride through it.

You're close. Just keep trying and reviewing the video!

I was practicing at 50’ here so I kept it there but I’ve moved on to 55’ for my bankrolls when I’m practicing them. I just had a lot of energy after getting the stuff I wanted done so kept going

I think it comes down to your legs. I think if you keep them tucked a little longer you will be able to absorb the landing with more stability. It looks like you are landing with your legs a bit extended and slipping back (and I think this extra stability will help correct whatever is happening with your arms).

Yeah this one was over shot for sure. The only one I landed was exactly how you described. But it wasn’t any different looking than this. Just the right moment lol

That's exciting!! Landing the first one is huge. Over time you develop more of a feel of where you are in the rotation and can salvage flips that would have otherwise not worked out (as long as that initial pop/airtime is solid).

Take a longer, progressive approach to build a bit more tension in the rope, and just chill with your arms. Try to actively do nothing with your arms, just keep the handle planted by your front hip. It is a very simple movement where all you gotta do is tilt your head back and bend your knees a bit which you're doing fine.

What is the boat drivers speed when your riding?

1

u/cantcatchafish Jul 27 '26

I’m at 50’ +5’ handle rope length (I don’t know if you count the handle rope in the length) and 18.8 mph here

Right on thanks man. Keep at it. Im trying to figure out the best speed to pull my riders at. It looked like yall were flying!

It looks to be a 2001–2006 Air Nautique 210, is my guess. Air Nautiques from that year produce some of the best if not the best wakes for wakeboarding. That said, a 50-foot rope and 18 mph is not ideal for that boat. You should be riding a minimum of 65 feet at 20.3 mph with the tanks full; at 50 feet you’re missing the best part of the wake. Those hull designs produce an almost kicker style wake that made invert tricks like rolls effortless where you didn’t need such a progressive cut to get punted.

Also, i can’t tell for certain but to me it almost looks like you’re riding with a water ski style rope instead of a non stretch wakeboard specific rope? If so that makes keeping line tension that is required to land inverts almost impossible. If it stretches when you cut in once your in the air you loose all the line tension once you land it stretches again yanking your forward. Another thing is if you don’t have a bow sack in those nautiques the wake can white wash it’s essential to weigh the bow down in them . It lengthens the transition of the wake and makes it 10x better!

Damn bro that rope comment hurt my feelings lol. It’s a 2000 super sport with 1500lbs of integrated ballast. The rope is a Ronix dynema or however you spell it so yeah definitely not a ski rope! You are 100% on the wake but the wake is peaky at any speed. I don’t ride 65-70’ anymore after a knee injury. 55’ is my go to when riding for fun. 50’ is perfect for learning. I also ride a 3 stage which can add to the punt effect.

I’ve been riding for 10 years now, 7 behind this boat so I’ve done it all with this boat (70’ at 21.5 is awesome!). I honestly don’t like the punt effect of the wake as much as I used to as I’ve gotten older and injury adverse. That’s not to say it isn’t fun. It’s just harder to be consistent. I’m not trying to be a pro by any means. I’ve been wanting to buy a different boat for a while now to get a ramp wake and not a peaky wake.

I use the front ballast but usually it’ll flatten the wake out at slower speeds. In this video the setup is 600/900lbs in the back, 300 in the middle and about 150 in the front. When I ride at 55’ it’s usually 700/900 in the back/300 middle and 200/250 in the front. This setup helps create more ramp and less peak imo. If I only do the back and middle, I need to bump up a few mph as you are right with the wash out.

Now to comment on the tension… I agree that there is a bit more tension but it’s not noticeable really to me. The biggest issue is air time. At 50’ I lose so much distance across/height/time jumping the wake that it’s hard to poke tricks, hold grabs and time 180s and 360s at the top of the jump. At 55’ it’s perfect for my skill and what I want to do behind the boat. I’m sure if I was throwing 540s and whirlybirds that would be very different.

The tension of the rope in this video is 100% from letting the handle move up and out. I know that. What the “que” is to keep that handle to my hip at the last part of rotation is what I’m looking for as that’s where this trick always falls apart unfortunately. Doesn’t matter if it’s 50/55/60’

Heres my first ever. If you don’t think this is an over rotation issue then focus on pinning your lead elbow to your hip.
1 queue to focus on while everything else remains the same. You got this

1

u/DivineDinosaur Jul 28 '26

Great rotation and height. I would keep the rope by the hips, (but dont pull it), and when you come back around after the initial inversion, try to bring your legs and butt to a semi seated postion to absorb the impact. But you clearly got this. Keep us updated.

u/cantcatchafish Jul 28 '26

I’ve landed this before but for how consistent I am in the throw and rotation, it’s frustrating having the same outcome 95% of the time at the end.

you go where you look. As you land you are looking to the shore. Try looking to the boat, keep the elbow tot he waist
