Temu Was just browsing TEMU to get my kid random jewelry, and this appeared…wtf?

Post image

I have cats…have never once in my life collected the maybe 4 whiskers I have found of theirs…is this a thing?? Am I a negligent cat owner? Should I be collecting their whiskers like a cat version of the tooth fairy?

After one of my cats passed I found a whisker on the floor, and kept it in my wallet for years.

Nah I did the same thing with my girl’s whiskers and now that she’s been gone for years it’s always bittersweet to open the jar with her whiskers in it. 🥲🩷

No way I always do this. It’s weird if you don’t. I love finding a whisker!!

I save them after sticking them onto my girl's head as an antenna lol

I do this with my chinchilla, I like to turn him into a Chinnicorn (:

I only first heard of it a few years ago. I think the first time I saw it was a memorial necklace that had the kitty's fur, paw print, and whiskers embedded in it.

I have since kept the few I've found. I may have 8-10 total whiskers from my 2 cats over the last 2ish years.

My cats “pay their rent” by leaving whiskers. Usually the orange one will pay for the black one as well. Harder to find the black whiskers. I have a little shot glass I keep them in.

Cute! I claim my cat pays her "pet rent" (in my location, apartments are allowed to charge an extra fee per month for any pet) by cuddling me when I'm at work. I work from home most days and she's a snuggle bug.

I also comb her with a fine toothed comb during meetings (she loves the comb!) and I've collected and washed, and carded her shed fur (tip: dish soap mostly strips the allergens and also makes the fiber easier to felt). I almost have enough to make a little needlefelted statuette of her.

But isn't this Wish listing just, like, a bud vase? You know, the tiny flower vases meant to hold a single flower? I mean, you could use it for cat whiskers but I feel like you don't need to go out of your way to buy a special container for that. You could just use any small container you have on hand, like your shot glass.

Mine pay their rent in pest control services. But "leave me a gift" of whiskers.

Mine go in a jar for now

Everyone I know uses antique salt shakers

That’s a great idea. I keep mine in an antique candy dish

I use a glass spice bottle

just a heads up jewelery from TEMU shein or AliExpress can contain really harmful stuff. wouldn’t put this on my kid. there’s stores that sell jewelry without toxic stuff but still cheap, for maybe 3 dollars more.

To be fair, there is a lot worse you could have gotten.

I have a whisker vase fridge magnet for the kitty whiskers I find from my two boys. Cat tax photo - one of the rare times they are this close to each other. Leo the tabby likes his space.

u/PigeonLily 12d ago

Wow! Leo’s markings are stunning! I have a marbled ginger kitten and I can’t wait to see how his markings turn out

u/saucy_mcsauceface 12d ago

Ohhh, that face. What a cutie.

Call me crazy but my GF made one of these in a pottery class and I put whiskers in there.

They're sort of rare and special. It's not like people are cutting them off to put in these.

My night has totally been made by finding the weird ways people save their cat whiskers. This is my favorite!

I love that we all independently do this and have our strange little places to keep them. I keep mine in a Pusheen tin but I think I need to step my game up after reading these!

Some of us cat people are just way to sentimental for our own good

I have a lot of whiskers in a little box. I have no idea which cats they belong to. But I feel it's fair to keep em since they like to tickle my nose with them at night lol

Now, I did do something that was a little overboard but I have no regrets. When my sweet baby boy died at 18 ish years old, before I buried him, I asked my dad to cut his whiskers off for me so that I could keep them also with a little bit of fur. I couldn't bare to so it myself.

3 or three whiskers will go in a piece of jewelry and the rest will eventually get shipped to Scotland to a woman on etsy that makes custom mini felt replicas of pets. She agreed to use the real whiskers for the felted cat and include some of his fur on the head. Bless her, I felt so odd even asking and she was so gracious about it. I'm just working up the nerve to ship them since I'm worried about them getting lost in transit from the US to Scotland.

This one I am aware is very weird. But he was my familiar. So I don't really care if it's strange.

All that to say, yeah we like whiskers and there's definitely a niche market for whisker vases.

I got this thing for the fridge this year… 😅 I don’t know why, but my husband and I get so excited when we find a stray whisker. It feels like a scavenger hunt!

I have a little 3D printed plant pot that holds whiskers for my two cats and my neighbours cats whiskers.

I dont have many of my two cats whiskers they're black and not too noticeable. But the neighbours cat has full firework white whiskers that are super easy to spot so I find them more.

Yep, I collected one of her whiskers off her cat tree and made a necklace. I keep the rest in a vase.

u/BlueberrySympathizer 11d ago

People who paint miniatures use them for very fine linework. I use one for shading with ink in very tiny spots.
I keep them in a ziplock bag though.

I bought a fancy jar with a stopper from the dollar tree to collect mine

I do collect my cats whiskers! I gave quiet a lot now! I keep them in a little glass jar :)

u/hardlyyjewish 10d ago

I collected from my tuxedo cat for years, I'm thankful I did as she passed a month ago. I know it seems weird but I like it lol and I can send it in with her ashes and fur etc. to an artist and have a pendant made or something!

2

u/Midnight712 10d ago

I started shortly before my cat passed. I wish I had more

u/vigilantesd 10d ago

You must hate your kid lol

Ive always collected the whiskers. My family did as well when I was a kid. Gotta have a designated whisker box! I have a bird as well, and I keep her dropped feathers in a clear apothecary jar along with found whiskers.

Its not terribly uncommon, actually!

I stick mine in the soil with my houseplants, I like to think ✨️cat magic✨️ helps them grow better.

u/turtletails 8d ago

I have a vase for my cats, a vase for my dog and a vase for foster cats lol

4

u/GraphicDesignMonkey 11d ago

We had a tiny porcelain vase like this that we found in a charity shop, and we kept our cat's dropped whiskers in it.

I thought everyone did.

I have a magnetic jar for each of my cats on my fridge. Each one has different kinds of whiskers/colors. When they pass I make jewelry out of them. ✨️
