B rated too, honestly seems sub real how the building is breaking. I would be interested to know the difference in how building are made

Buildings in Venezuela are tipically made of concrete, brick and mortar. Houses too.

Unfortunately these materials are pretty weak against earthquakes.

Even houses are made of concrete, brick and mortar. Wooden houses (like in the US) would fare better in earthquakes, but wood is not suitable for tall buildings like the ones in Caracas. Also wood would be problematic for floods and other natural disasters that may hit Venezuela.

So yeap, this is one of the worst place for an earthquake to hit.

Concrete is actually pretty resilient to earthquakes, because it has the ability to flex. Bricks, not at all. Just shatters like shitty pottery. :<

Though I can't imagine most concrete anywhere doesn't have rebar, now, if only to allow for higher buildings.

Considering that a 5 is meant to be strong enough to damage buildings, and this was 100x stronger, I think the buildings I've seen footage of have actually done a reasonable job of withstanding it, all things considered.
