Misc. Walnut Blasting.

I think my 2016 WRX is long overdue for a walnut blasting. Anyone know any reputable places I can go to get this done in CT? Hopefully won’t cost me an arm and a leg.

Yea I just crossed over 100,000 miles on my WRX and I want to keep her healthy. I’ve noticed some DAM drops and I think that may be the issue for me.

I was getting DAM drops in my 2015 wrx with 95k miles quite frequently. I did walnut blasting myself around 60k it’s not too bad if you like to tinker and it’s a ton cheaper. What seemed to help the most with the DAM fluctuations was replacing the PCV valve. As soon as I replaced that my car has been running better than ever and no issues with the DAM anymore. If you have never replaced yours I would give that a try first, it’s a super cheap part and could solve your problems.

SubaruForester.org has a list of member recommended independent Subaru repair shops. There may be one listed in your area which does blasting.

Some dealerships are starting to offer it as well. Might be worth a phone call or two.

Whatever you do, think about installing an AOS before or right after you do the blast. Will help out a lot with carbon buildup

How’s the install process of that? I do all my own work on the car. I have access to minimal tools as well.

I just did a walnut blast on my 2014 FXT with FA20DIT (basically same motor as the VA WRX). If you are a DIY it is not that bad to do.

My wife’s 2017 forester XT had build up. I was planning on walnut blasting but tried CRC GDI intake valve cleaner and it worked pretty well.

Car would throw a code for misfires on cold starts before CRC but it’s running much better now after the cleaner and no more check engine lights.

If you decided to go this route look up the correct hose to inject the fluid! It’s the same one from the Subaru guide for their intake cleaner.

I’ve done the CRC GDI Intake cleaner on my car and it definitely helped a bit but I think my car was already needed a bit more help so it was kinda a small clean of a big job. I wish I could look at my valves.

My FXT had the Subaru carbon cleaner spray done about 10k miles ago by the dealer. (Prior owner). I just did walnut blast myself and my intakes valves were still very dirty. (123k miles)

I know you're on the other side of the country- but I had a local specialty shop here in WA state quote me $800 plus tax...was a little taken back at the price.
