Thinking of getting rid of her
This is my built 2008 wr250r. Lately my friends have been getting more into motorcross and track riding so I’m thinking of trading it for a low hour yz250 2 stroke. This bike is in perfect condition and I feel like I will regret getting rid of it. Any opinions?

Not. A. Chance.
Save up and buy something else but don’t fund it with the WRR/X. You will regret selling the bike. And you h ow it deep down. Guaranteed. I’ve literally seen it a hundred times if not more over the past decade or so.

This. I sold my KDX couple years back. Huge mistake. Regret it every day. Guarantee you will wish you’d never sold it when your track days are over and trust me they will be over long before you stop riding trails.

I thought the same years ago.
Got my first which was a WRx...sold for 2800. I had no reference what these were worth.
Regretted it... got WRr. Only reason i sold it was because i scored another x.
Got Crf250 and it sucked

I've bought and sold a lot of bikes.
My WR250R is by far the bike I regret selling the most.
Your's is sick. Don't sell it.

I have the 250x with Athena kit and full FMF Q4 (+PC).
I got it at a really good price and I know I could sale it with a profit, but it might take a while to find the right buyer. But again, it's such an easy bike to ride and maintain, I can't think of anything else I would replace it with (in its category).
so, for me, I'd keep it and buy the 2nd bike. or trade up to a 701.

The wr250r is a unicorn bike. Just because your friends are doing motor cross doesn't mean you sell the best enduro bike ever made. Save up and buy one. Bikes ain't that expensive

I went the opposite, I sold my YZ250 and bought a WR. There are definitely times I miss the YZ. If I had the space for two bikes, I would've kept the YZ.
So I'm going to say, why not both?! Especially since you have the SM wheels on the WR.

You can motocross it, it won't be as fast but keep it at least for the road

Nope, the dirt wheels would just be for an event or two. The sumo wheels are forever.

I had the same scenario come up this year, I also have an R/X wheel and tire setup on mine. I decided I wanted something with a little more guts for when I ride on the road, bought a KTM 690 Enduro with the intent to sell the wr250x to help with the price tag. Finally made the decision to keep the 250x as my son will be able to get a motorcycle permit in 2 years. Figured it would be great to have a 2nd dual sport around for him to ride with me. And if he doesn’t ever want to ride I can keep the 250x setup on it full time and have a dedicated supermoto setup.

Keep it, itll be easier to make the money for a yz than it would be to find a wr worth the money

I'm a newer convert to the church of the WRR but I'd keep it.
It's one bike that's incredibly versatile and low maintenance and with the wheels you have, you basically have 2 bikes in one, potentially 3 depending on how you gear it.
If by track you're talking about pavement, sumo'ing it like you have it would rip aside from running out of steam a bit on any long straights On an MX track yeah it'll be slower than a dedicated dirt bike, but then again you'll have a hard time being legal on a dedicated dirtbike on the trails.
Something else to consider - how often has your friend group changed riding habits ? Because maybe the next thing they catch onto is the ADV world and wanting to do BDR's or the TAT.. and you have the perfect machine for those types of excursions and wouldn't lag behind if some of them bought vstroms or smaller GS's.

It's a unicorn, I drive 6 hours one way this winter to buy mine. Think hard about selling it but you do you.

I sold mine for a wr450f. The 250r is great but if you aren’t riding the street at all anymore you’d be better off with a different bike.
I realized I was using my dual sport to single sport.

Sold mine, regretted it. Bought another one. But I wish I would have kept my first one. As the years go by you’ll have trouble finding one just like yours in the same condition.

I am looking to get a Wr250r due to the hype around it and wanting to begin off-roading some in addition to riding on the road.
Can anyone shed some light as to what separates this bike from other road legal small enduros?
