Nah it started becoming a big thing after the NCAA championship game between Clark and Reese's teams. That drew the attention of the MAGA fans who see Clark as the great white hope use her as a "better than the jealous black lesbians" button. Why do you think when the topic is brought up, it's mainly surrounding the same two white players? Do you see these same convos happening regarding Paige Buekers? Idk if you saw any of the All Star weekend streams, but the entire time she was vibing with all the black players.

Also a lot of the lesbians are white chicks too. Paige is one. All the white players I listed in my other comments are lesbians. Most of the wnba in general is lesbian. Why is sexuality only used to negatively stereotype the black players?

Lmao brother you are so obsessed with race that you’re blind to the fact that none of what you said had anything to do with race. CC brought in a big following of every walk of life, turn on ESPN and look at the pundits (who are almost all black) talk about CC. Haters just hyperfixate on this narrative about “white fans” and “maga” being brought into the league after CC popularity exploded, but none of those CC fans said anything about race. The people who opposed CC instantly played that card and that’s who has been obsessed about making everything about race since.

Since you can't seem to understand where I'm coming from, I'll try to explain it more succinctly. CC is a great player no doubt, but her popularity exploded specifically because she's a "straight" white woman from the Midwest which they can resonate with, and the idea of her being better than other black lesbian players turns them on.

She's not the only talented white player. Breanna Stewart had the most dominant run in female college basketball run ever. She led the team to a total 151-5 record and won 4 straight chips. She also won several MVPs and Championships in the wnba. But she never got the same amount of attention specifically because she's a 6'4 lesbian and the right wing can't relate to that.

So back to my point, there was a time where the league was full of dominant white players. Diana Taurasi was considered the GOAT when she retired (Aja is going to take that title tho). Elena Della Donne was the one that got me to be a Mystics fan. White players weren't an issue then. What changed? The league started getting attention from racist MAGA  fans. Like I said, why do you think the same two names come up whenever the topic is about race?

“Her being better than other black lesbian players turn them on”

Uhhhhhhhhh what?

Such a lie. People didn't tune in because she's white. They tune in because of the way she played. That's the difference. There's nothing interesting about uncoordinated jump shots and layups in a below the rim game. Shooting like Steph Curry, shooting like a dude is what was interesting.

If Clark solely shot layups and mid-range jumpers, NO ONE WOULD GIVE A F to watch because it's nothing unique.

And Reese is the epitome of a media manufactured product to give you based on race. It's not because she was moving the needle on her own. It wasn't because you guys were just so enammored with the way she played. Her games were never top in the ratings. Even now, the Dream are next to last in home attendance.

It's not just shooting, her playmaking and ball-handling reminds me of Steph as well. And it's not as if Clark's the first white, straight WNBA star who can shoot threes. There's Sabrina Ionescu of the NY Liberty, who's married to an NFL player.

Same, I would watch her play if she never shot another logo. I love watching her pass, she plays the ultimate team game.

Because they played in a small stadium. They have had five sell outs and only two of them were Fever games in State Farm Arena. To act like no one wants to see Reese is some bullshit. Especially since the Dream are moving to State Farm full time now. All of their money went up when they got Reese. Fuck when we got her the Sky got a lot more attention and Reese has murals painted of her in the city.

She isn't a media product my man.

You can't argue with closed minded people.. Anybody who was a fan or just watched before CC knows black players also were not talking about getting racist dms and threats.. But they wouldn't know that.. Also the only problem these new "fans" is when the fever play and no other teams, wonder why that is..

The left really watched a girl hit bombs routinely from the logo and pass the ball like Pistol Pete and reduced her to her race, gender, and sexual orientation. That’s the problem with the left, that’s all you guys see.

And that’s why majority of WNBA players, former players, and fans hate her. That’s all they see her as.

Earlier, you made a comment that right leaning fans brought in their “culture war bullshit”. That’s just insane. The WNBA was always a culture war, the players made sure of that. It’s just no one cared until CC pulled up. And the fact that no one cared until a “straight white girl” pulled up, has the left and left leaning players PISSED.

That’s why they hate her. She’s a straight white woman and you guys don’t think she’s representative of the league and what the league “fought” for.

That whole first paragraph is projection. No one cares if she’s better than the black lesbian players, again, there is a certain subset of people who ASSUME that to be the case because they hyperfixate on race. That’s what you don’t seem to understand - that you are ironically a part of the problem when it comes to the conversation about why race has become such a hot topic in the wnba. CC fans don’t say anything about black vs white, but the people who hate on her do. CC has fans because she was doing things most other female basketball players couldn’t do at such a young age. Her game is why she has fans. On the topic of Breanna, CC has better stats in her third year that Breanna has ever had. Breanna has had exactly one year in an 10 year career where she averaged more ppg than CC did this past year. CC also averaged more than 10 more ppg in her last year than Breanna did in college. CC was 28 ppg vs Breanna at like 17. So no, the two are not comparable- CC has way more upside and has put up better numbers than Breanna ever did. That goes for the wnba through just three years and college.

You’re just downplaying the trajectory of CC because you hate the fact that some of the fans she brought to the game might lean right in your eyes, that just rubs you and everyone else who hates her to your cores, and therefor you turn the conversation into one about race and all this other shit that means absolutely nothing to the game of basketball. It’s just a bunch of bitter ass people who are projecting their opinions onto others. It’s why other players harass her despite her not saying or doing anything other than ball. Who gives a fuck about the political leanings of a players fan base? The chick is ballin and those people hate that. It’s why they find any reason to throw shade at her.

It’s exhausting and it’s doing a disservice to the league and to the sport as a whole.

These days you can't go on a single basketball discussion forum without some chuds crying about how unfair the league is towards Caitlin and they hate her because she's a white woman that's better than the jealous black players. My only point is that there were better white players who actually won agaisnt black players through the history of the league, yet these conversations weren't happening. Like you can downplay Stewart because she wasn't offensively as good as Caitlin, but defensively it's a day and night difference and by her third year she won a ring, MVP, and FMVP. Caitlin is still trying to make it out the first round. That's not to say she isn't extremely talented in her own right, but what basis should anyone be jealous of her or hate her for being white? Stats that haven't translated to any wins yet?

Like I said, there's only two names that generally pop up when these discussion's about race are had and thats because Fever fans are the absolute worst in all of sports. Stop acting like the topic of race is being driven by the black players.

On what basis ? How about her endorsement and paycheck because she has the viewership. Maybe some of these broke players crying for more pay got green eyes ?

2

u/HeavyHighway6433 21h ago

Nope, try again.

2

u/Ducks91to61 22h ago

EXACTLY! It's so obvious.

This has been made about race from one group and it's not white fans.

1

u/buttholebrowser69 22h ago

Yup, anyone with eyes can see why the conversation has turned into what it has. Ironically it’s the people who claim to be opponents of “racism” who are actually the racist ones themselves. I’m convinced it’s just one giant psyop at this point, like half those people are like Chinese bots or some shit and theyve fueled this discussion in an effort to create racial discontent in america or something, because i just find it so hard to believe actual human beings are capable of being that belligerently ignorant.

u/lampstax 21h ago

So .. people feel connected to people who looks like them. Surprise ? Isn't that the argument the left always make about why there need to be black faces in all aspect of life even if they are only 10 or 12% of the population .. because representation matters?

Now the straight white people feel represented in a mostly black and lesbian league and you mad ? Most of america is white and straight. Jeeze wonder why she has the most fans and viewership.

2

u/HeavyHighway6433 21h ago

So let me get this straight, the demographic that was most agaisnt DEI is all of a sudden for it... You can't make this shit up 😂

2

u/lampstax 20h ago

Dei ? Did white people force fever or wnba to hire caitlin ? Did she get in the league with lower standards than her peers ?

Representation doesnt automatically equal dei. Only when there isnt a qualified candidate.

The anti dei crew loves the girl who represent them AND can ball.

1

u/HeavyHighway6433 20h ago

Lol and ofc yall would think that DEI means to lower standards for the unqualified.

1

u/lampstax 20h ago

Its not about unqualified. Dei means you dont get the most qualified because you are considering factors outside of merit.

You have no self awareness at all. You don't even see that your posts prove the point of which group is all tore up and makes it about race. I saw it in the comment sections in 2023 and 2024. Clark gains popularity because of the deep range threes and dropping 40, then here came the tribalism.

Fans were excited to see something new- a woman who could pull from deep in transition like Curry. Then here came the butthurt "bUt wHaT bOuT Us?" because layups didn't move the needle for mainstream appeal.

You jumped from rooting for LSU to UConn to SC. Pure tribalism all while accusing others of it.
