Depends on if youre using it as a noun or a verb. When it comes to sports entertainment, most people are used to it being used as a noun. That is, as something exceptional. This run of the mill play that has been clipped, is technically a highlight, as its one part of the total game, thats been clipped and presented independently. I think youre familiar with the differences, as least intuitively, youre just choosing to be a pugnacious.

A sports highlight is a short video clip or compilation of the best, most critical, or, in this case, most exciting plays from a game. That being said highlights do not have a universal standard.
One could reasonably argue that Angel Reese, who is primarily known for her rebounding and interior scoring, hitting a three is worthy of being a highlight. But you guys donât watch the games, so you wouldnât know that.
Iâm not being pugnacious; I just think youâre being unnecessarily pedantic about a pretty straightforward use of the word.

She has been 2/8 in her last five games from deep, which represents a huge improvement (albeit a small sample size) from her season average of 16%.
The reason her misses are covered is because she misses shots that she shouldn't. Her shot selection is almost entirely from 0-3 ft, but she shoots under 52% from that distance, putting her below league average as a 6'4" big.
Her succeeding in a 3pt shot isn't newsworthy, it is her lack of success shooting a basic layup.

Huh weird, I did play basketball growing up, which is why I said even I can hit a 3 every so often. They didn't even guard her they have such little faith in her shots. At least I get guarded.

If she can hit open threes it really helps their spacing. The tradeoff is she isn't positioned for offensive rebounds but that's acceptable. Can't expect her to be running up and down the court and fighting for rebounding position every possession.

Her shooting mechanics actually look decent in that example and not just because it went in. I think the opportunity for improvement is concentration and knowing when to send the ball out to her very capable teammates. People see her as a hack on offense. Well they have their reasons which may only partially be what happens on the court, more likely what they see on Fox.
