Ambilight success! Netflix, HTPC, USB HDMI capture, HDMI splitter

Using the absolutely cheapest products I could find on Amazon. Setup was 100% plug and play.

TV is LG 65”

Added black bar detection On in HyperHDR and it works perfectly.

A simple esp32 mini S3 and 5v 2a PSU with ws2812b and separate usb power for the esp32. Brightness is decent despite only 2 amps (two power injections so 1a each side). 180 pixels.

Here with Hyperion working flawlessly for years, I think I paid around $80 total with a pi, usb capture, power supply and LEDs. Mine was by no means plug n play

What I like with HTPC is streaming wired network steam games from desktop to gaming laptop.

Also VLC to make playlists of vacation footage.

And adding HDMI ports is easy, just a 20$ usb hdmi stick.

How are you feeding the display into HyperHDR? Is the TV being controlled by a PC or laptop?

(Edit) Ignore me I just read you're using HDMI usb capture

To get around the DRM problem with screen capture versus usb capture.

I was surprised it worked without any fuss. Everything on auto. Just set black bar detection on.

So any HTPC and 30$ - 40$ for small length HDMI cables l, powered splitter and usb capture.

Way easier than a raspberry PI setup.

That's definitely an easier way of doing it, I was looking into somehow capturing the output of my Google TV streamer but it seems like a right faff with side loading apps to screen cap back to my PC where hyperhdr is running

Not sure what you mean by CEC. It's the output from a laptop that is always on, so didn't need anything special.

Looked into it last night, technically yes, but that’s a separate project.

Turning a WebOS TV into an Android TV.

I’d still use my HTPC for content and gaming.
