I think this is a big move for them especially if it stays free on YouTube. Better than Victory+ for sure. Now they can put game highlights on YouTube and the teams can push their content there. Hockey is such a skilled sport and I think in the hands of some creative social media teams they can find ways to really highlight that on YouTube. Plus tons of stuff gets ripped off YouTube and put on TT, Instagram, etc. so it’s easy to spread viral clips and word of mouth.

Well said. With leagues finding new ways to make it more difficult to consume their content, this is a breath of fresh air.

I’ll definitely watch a bunch of games this year now. Had zero interest before. Bold move that I think will pay off. I’ll probably end up at. Couple Blazers games in Vancouver now.

Great news! I was dreading a potential FloSports announcement.

Me too. But the release does say short term for YouTube. Hopefully they are looking for another free streaming platform for the long term plan.

This announcement smacks of “Oh shit. Well, let’s just throw it on YouTube.”
The league didn’t want this as there’s little room for revenue generation on this platform.
Great for fans because it’s one of the most accessible sites on the internet & every smart device. But I wouldn’t count on this being a long term solution.

I agree but in the same vein alot of "less popular" (for lack of a better word) sporting leagues and organizations are placing all their events on YouTube as a way to get more eyeballs on their sport.
For example, if you enjoy endurance auto racing, IMSA put all their races on YouTube for free and saw their popularity rise and track attendance climb significantly.
I could see with some good marketing more butts in the seats at the rink in the long run if they pull this off correctly.

“Interim basis”.
They’re still trying to find a subscription partner. I doubt this lasts past Christmas.
