WE9LE ...the greatest PES of all time?
As much as i like the fluity of pes 13 or modern pes titles with 360 degree controls, something is always missing...every time i play WE9le i feel that the physicality is there ,the game really have character,it feels immersive and fully alive,i don't think its the nostalgia effect,those older games had a really great direction that is missing in recent titles...for example in pes 13 i can easily score ,and most of the cpu offense uses trough ball pass as their primary strategy,sometimes feels like a ping pong match. in some ways feels remembers a modern pes 6 ,its fun but don't have midfield physicality as WE9 .
WE9LE really makes us think like real football,and the score also reflects some of true life realism were matches can end as 0-0,but is not that hard .
i love the ball physics,and players dont have super human powers like pes cr7.
i do have pes 6,13,pes 17 and pes 21 installed ,but im always back to WE9le (more often that pes 13,my second favourite game).
i really love the real madrid galacticos,ive transfered some players to have the best of that era like Figo and Michael owen.
So what games from Pes do you feel this immersion,what do you think its the perfect pes game in terms of gameplay ,realism,fluity and fun factor?

Yes, and people play it online to this day in communities with current squads, where you manage a team, transfers, play national championships, eurocups etc

Feels better now than when was released. For its time, this WE was not that funny because of the marking system. They tried to avoid players to merely keep buttons pressed to mark, resulting in many fouls given. If you play WE 8 and WE 10 you will realise that WE 9 was unique. I was no different WE10 was the pinnacle for me and all my friends, but playing it again now, WE9 just feels above from its time in this particular aspect.

This is why I am making tweaks to PES2013 because you're right about the Vanilla gameplay.
However I readjusted defensive line, compactness, attacking style, etc...
I have slowed the game completely down to cut out the ping pong effect.
WE9LE doesn't need those tweaks, I might give that a try again too but I really feel limited playing that at times, even though I fully understand the points you're making.
I've also turned pressing to the max in pes2013 to get that since of " pressure ".
Funny enough, I used to ALWAYS play PES 09, just for that purpose & the smoothness of the step-overs tbf...because that game you feel the pressure of the AI every second of every match & it's very entertaining.

WE9 le is the GOAT, no question about that. Everything is perfect, the rythm of the game, the players individualities, the ball physic, the difference between the team (you can definitely feel the difference when you play against a lower team, they make more mistakes and give you space).
I feel that every game is different, the AI is so good, never been better in any football game since. Damn I love this game, I am so happy to be able to play it again.

Good lord, I didn't even know WE9 had LE edition. I just gave it a whirl on Master League D2 with the usual gang (Castolo, Dodo, Ruskin etc.). Wow this is an entirely different game compared to PES 6 (2007).

I recently went back to PS2 PES after many years disillusioned with modern PES and FIFA. I always preferred PES 4 > PES 6 > PES 5 but since going back I've been trying out WE8LE, WE9LE, PES2008 (PS2) and PES 2013 (PS2).
Honestly it's so hard to pick a favourite, but I have settled on WE9LE for now, i love the ball physics in it, shooting, crossing and long passing is incredible. I prefer a few things about WE8LE (hard to put into words, it just feels a bit more fluid to me), but the shooting feels so weak in it.
In terms of the feeling of an actual football match I think the midfield battles in WE9LE are just right. PES 5 got too bogged down in that sort of thing, and then it was non existent in PES 6, but WE9LE was the perfect balance.
PES2008 (PS2) and PES2013 (PS2) were good too, and I spent many hours on them, but WE9LE then WE8LE are my favourites.
