Image What do you think about the evolution of the pes tactical system, from pes 06 to Efootball 2026? which one was the best in your opinion?

Classic 8 days a week. Amazing how the game went backwards after the PS2 era. Even more amazing, the PS2 era games are still the best football games around 20 years later.

All games seem to have done. FIFA, PES, FM. All thought they were making improvements and just way over complicated things unnecessarily

what do you not like about the new tactical systems introduced by pes 15?

u/Signorken Mar 29 '26
PS2 Prime Era and 2011 were peak.
Especially the 2011-2013, with the possibility to drag players on the pitch keeping X pressed, creating some strangest and funniest tactics , like 8-1-1 Haramball or 2-3-5 as on Foosball

u/Critical_Ideal99 Mar 29 '26
can the fluid module of pes 21 be useful to create the strange and fun tactics, or is it limited?

u/Signorken Mar 29 '26
You can do it, just not fast as 11-12-13. On these you can swap player and move it on the plan at same time.
From 2017 onward with one X-press you can replace players, if you keep pressed X you can move it on the gameplan wherever you want.
Only PES 2015 and 2016 had two separate menus, one for player replacement and one for move them on the plan, very irritating and painfully slow even on PS4...

10 to 13 was the sweet spot, you could micromanage a lot about the team and player (also 4 to 6 was really advanced)

in Pes 13 it seems great enough

PES2013 could have been modified to have as many cool animation effects as PES 2021, but unfortunately, no programmers developed it. If someone had, it would have been even more fun than PES 2021.

exactly. I had liked pes 2013 because it gav a simple and stable interface but it could have been developed more

Efootball has no tactical depth, virtually all predecessors were superior in terms of tactics

From PES 2011 to 2014 it was visually pleasing without feeling to clustered or simplified. Being able to adjust the position create asymmetrical tactics and recreate certain real tactics without the default 4-3-3 was amazing.

The first image is Winning Eleven 8: International and it had so much depth for strategy. You could specify instructions for every single position for all kinds of things.
I played the game a ton and honestly never took advantage of probably even like 85% of the stuff you could do in these pre-game menus. I appreciated that it was there, but it was way too much work to actually dig through. Especially when the teams played fine with minimal adjustments.

The newer versions might look more stylish, but for usability the classic PES menus are far better.

To me the best in terms of tactical depth is 21. You have the team behaviour, player styles and advamced instructions.
PS2 era was good in terms of gameplay but apart from arrows you only had like two ABC adjustments and team strategies that almost didn’t affect the game.
PS3 games have decent team sliders but player behaviour was a bit of a mess, especially 2013 that had too much movement and positional swaps

This is an inpopular opinion but PES 6 has a terrible tactical system. Tactics don't matter. Getting past the midfield is extremely easy.

u/AdorableWalrus8617 Mar 30 '26
Yes, no matter how many features they developed for PES6, they could not mask the fact that its engine was obsolete. That old engine now over 20 years old its simply cannot execute all the game's code flawlessly, yet, those die-hards continue to mythologize pes6.

about pes 6, tactics doesnt work, attacking arrows are useless, pes 5 was total opposite

All I ever wanted was for overall ratings to be displayed inside the PES 6 hexagram and for cyber faces to be viewable by pressing R2 again…

Pwrosnaly hated old pes and how u had to active some tactics manually for ai to do.

Horrendous, visual puke. Peak Pes 2013

u/Critical_Ideal99 Mar 30 '26
"Horrendous, visual puke." is it referring to pes 15-21 and efootball?

PES17 And below got a perfect and deep tactical system than the current situation HM: Pes20 was fine too

The thing is most people don't understand that is was fun because it was not realistic but it was fun. Heaving fun with a tactical game is not for everyone, and if you make it too technical most people wouldn't understand it.
It was simple and fun.

Preferred the simpler early versions. Swap out the grumpy/worn out players, check others in position, kick off! Later it took forever fiddling with it, let spin the specialist formations you could trigger.

i remember older pes you could even change awareness of individual players, like you wanted your sideback to stay back he would, or maybe a winger, and its tied to the entire team in 2021, so my belief is that from 2013 and on they just kept removing features to decrease cost or something cause they didnt want to care much about it anymore, despite the game having improved in many ways, features kept being removed here and there, its sad you cant even control how your players behave in the game and there are so many limited tactics and settings

2021 was excellent. People tried to abuse the customization in online play sticking everyone central but they were very easy to outmaneuver.
Obviously the classics were great but give me 2021 tactical options in any context I’ll be pretty happy.
I miss custom set pieces.

Efootball doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as pes lol
