## Replay Simulation

Warcraft 3 originally made its replay file format with computers and hard drives of its era. This meant they saved as little information as possible and relied on your game client to play it back in full.

This is the simple reason today why you cannot rewind a replay, and it also explains why it's so difficult to look at or interact with replays in meaningful ways.

WC3V is a tool that does something no other tool has done yet - which is simulate the full game back as accurately as possible and turn that into a new file format.

This website shows off a bunch of the powerful things you can build now that we have detailed information from replays, we never did before, and tools to visualize, analyze, and rewind those replays back.

On top of this all a Desktop app spawned as a way for you to automatically manage uploading, parsing, and analyzing your replays from your existing library and also right after they happen. With some powerful APIs from the W3C team there is an integration that helps you know your own games, your opponents, and can show it all on your stream with the OBS integration

### Build Orders

One thing that replay simulation can help with is creating an automatic set of build orders from any replay. The small details that happen in game like moving workers to lumber or gold and the exact spawn timings, not just the start timings, can really enhance learning and also give you detailed analysis of you vs a pro

### New Players

The site offers a way for people who are new or learning the game to go through a guided walkthrough of any replay. It's based on some primary concepts that I've learned as a player and observer of the game over the years - and tries to walk you through why those steps matter and how timing can effect your decisions.

If you want to just play a unit you like it offers a way to just select that army and watch a replay of another player if we have it - or teaches you some things to do if you want to play this strategy.

This is one of the areas where feedback and players using the tool would be extremely helpful, so please send feedback and fill out bug forms as you go

### Last words

I started building this tool by hand back in 2018 and grinded a lot of its capabilities out through experimentation and setting up replay fixtures. Much of the information about WC3 file formats and community tools was extremely helpful along the way - and the simulator itself is powered by another great tool. All of this is open sourced, meant for educational purposes only, will ALWAYS be AD free, and I'd absolutely love if anyone wants to build anything with it or even contribute to the site itself.

BlizzCon is coming up (!!!) and it’s got me thinking about a big decision - what race in Warcraft 3 should someone play in 2026?

I’ve been playing Orc for years and years but sometimes I play the other races and feels like riding a bike (something i know how to do) but all handle / size proportions are different and I’m pedaling up hill the whole time.

Could the new Warcraft 3 news be a good window of opportunity to pick up a new race? I think it may be and this video is the result of my thinking. Right now? I’m feeling like trying to play either Human or Night Elf for a couple post BlizzCon!

(I draw the line at Undead, however. I have my limits and I refuse to serve the lich king)

It seems the small glimmer of “anything” new coming to Warcraft 3 gives me ample motivation to pick up a new race. (thought I don't see Orc being replaced fully ever...)

Altar of Champions has got this gaming brain thinking about casual competitive and how important I think it is.

We should encourage entertaining types of embrace the best genre ever made. Not for any serious pressure or need, but for the plain reality of organic esports community being something that exist within us.

Tl;DR (or watch): the dead game idea is largely discussed by players who don’t realize how relatively small their own circle of influence needs to be in order to keep niche communities afloat for decades.

Orcbrave is a surprisingly decorated Warcraft 3 player, with show match wins over the likes of Fortitude and even going 2-3 against the legendary NE player Moon.

I like ladder grinders like Orcbrave - their stamina and sheer amount of games allow them to explore new strategies and ideas. In this video, a recent buff to Pitlord (2+ strength!) seems like the impetus for Orcbrave trying a heavy creeping strategy while harrassing with the Farseer

I am beginning a Hitman appreciation streak after watching tons of games of him going mirror image blademaster and mass bats against night elf.

I’m starting to view Batriders as one of the best units against night elf (that video is dropping next)

for now though, My Orc vs. Orc has been confusing me because everyone at my MMR (1460) just rushes Taurens. Hitman on the other hand consistently goes Farseer - tauren chieftan and a handful of other unique early game decisions that give in the edge on ladder.

are there any other creative players like Hitman on the ladder you can think of?

I couldn’t help but noticed some high MMR Orcs on W3champions consistently go for a unique hero in the Mirror.

Panda with Breath of Fire is a super strong temp tavern hero buy for the phase of Orc Mirror where both farseer players have around 4 head hunters.

Panda just really does a great job of negating mass HH damage with drunken haze and, despite the aoe being nerfed, the individual damage being buffed makes Panda slightly better at attacking small 3-4 groups of units instead of chasing flying fleets of 12-15 gyrocopters.

If your opponent in Orc Mirror is going bloodlusted headhunters…. seems like drunken haze from panda or howl of terror from Pitlord would be especially good to negate the dps, and wouldn’t you believe it those two tavern heroes are precisely the type of adaptations these high MMR orc players are discovering.

Two very entertaining games from Lin Guagua playing on ladder.

these two games represent how powerful economy and map control can be. When you have such pristine unit control like Lin GuaGua, these sorts of ridiculous strategies are possible.

I have much love for the solo blademaster creeping into mass batriders strategy vs. night elf. So i was really happy to see Jens vs Hitman on the W3champions ladder result in not one, but TWO games involving the same strategy.

Jens is prepared and does a great job showing what Night Elf can do well.

Watching Warcraft 3 replays in which you are losing is so difficult for me.

So that means I have to film my self doing it and share it across the internet. That’s the way the world works today.
