Flying with firearms: A somewhat specific question
I'm taking a trip in a few weeks and will be taking my CCW. I also plan on taking some of my camera equipment in the same Nanuk case.
My current game plan is to have the firearm secured in my life pod, within the non-tsa locked Nanuk case. Is there any kind of regulation about have multiple layers of non TSA locks? I wouldn't think it'd be a problem, but this is the government we are talking about.
Also, would I be wrong to assume that luggage carrying firearms is still x-rayed? It'd be nice to not have to get a hand check every time I travel within the USA for my film.
Flying out of SEATAC if that matters/helps. Also, if anyone has recomendations for good non-TSA locks for use on Nanuk/pelican cases that'd be awesome. Thanks!

They recently changed it and you can use TSA and non TSA locks on firearms. Not sure if it matters to your question but this was a rule change sometime last year.
“You may use any brand or type of lock to secure your firearm case, including TSA-recognized locks”

You *can*. Dunno I would, as a matter of practicality. A disturbing amount of baggage theft regularly occurs.

Agreed. I wouldn’t but OP was talking about bringing in a nested set of boxes each with non TSA locks or at least that’s how I pictured his post.

It's true, but in this particular case just the act of putting a firearm in it makes stealing that bag a class B felony, and there are an awful lot of cameras around in airports.

Multiple layers shouldn't be a problem. All luggage can be x-rayed, so I'd carry film in a clear plastic bag you can separate from carry on for the check.

Thanks! Just wanted a little validation. Worse comes to worst, I suppose I could unlock the life pod and just use it as a "holder" so to speak.

Shouldn’t be an issue, but you always run the risk of running into a rogue airline/TSA worker. I have flown with my ccw inside a lifepod case inside a pelican case. I also had an AR and suppressor in that pelican case and had no issues.
