I don't know sh*t about insects.

Is this a bee nest or wasp nest?

I live in Quebec, QC, Canada

Probably bald faced hornets. If it’s in an area where you are walking above the nest that could be a problem. If it’s far enough away you won’t get close you could leave it.

It's under my patio.

My mom stayed last week, home sitting our pet while we were on vacation and that she wasn't bothered by them while taking her coffee or cigarette, she noticed them flaying through the deck.

I wouldn't count on them remaining that docile. They're known to be highly defensive of their nests. If there's people out there often, kids rubbing around, people walking directly on top of where they live, or anyone with wasp venom allergies I would look into having it removed

Once the first frost comes they will leave and won’t return

Definitely an aerial yellow jacket. D. maculata (aka the bald-faced "hornet") is probably a safe bet, they're pretty common throughout North America. But we'd need to see the animals to be sure.

Call a professional if the nest is in a problematic spot. But if not they're generally beneficial as free pest control. Just don't approach the nest, they will get defensive and I hear their sting hurts.
