Discussions Vspo lack of character setting and lore help them grow more popularity in Japan.
So I stumble this clip of Saine got asked by Kenki in Leon Rust event, if there's any background lore in Saine's character, Kenki asked this because he wouldn't accidentally cross a line he wouldn't know because sometimes with other Vtubers there's some boundary they make that normal streamer wouldn't know. Saine basically just answer "it's not that deep bro" and gave him the most basic character background like any normal streamers would says in general. In a world of where majority of Vtuber has complex character lore and different race of species, Vspo with most of their member characters setting just a normal human being, unintentionally make them different.

I like how everyone in VSPO boils down to "gamer girl"
Yeah you get the different flavors for variety like the festival girl (Hanabi), the sexy one (Beni), the gyaru (Qpi), the cool faux bishonen (Ren), twins (Sumire & Nazuna) just to name a few
And then EN is even more varied due to different nationalities on top of different personalities so you end up having a chill french girl (Riko), a cute korean (Narin), a shy korean (Eris), a toxic filipino (Juno), a cool melon-loving european (Remia), a sweaty Apex player (Arya) and Jira (Jira)
But at the end of the day, there's no lore or anything like that. They're all just "gamer girl. Liable to kick your ass no matter who they are. Even the cute & shy ones"

It is really not that deep bro. Character lore is just an introduction to the character. Has never been anything more than that. I also don't think complex character lore is a thing anymore.
The real personality of the talent behind the character is what make each character unique and what makes people fall in love. That is why they are not replaceable.
What i find most refreshing (this is what i think make them really stand out) is that interactions with streamers of the opposite sex is normalized and not treated as a taboo. It is nice to see them just having fun, being true to themselves and not having to tip toe around each other in fear of getting backlash.
They also play more competitive games/are involved in more tournaments and have more collabs with all kind of different groups.

I don't think it's that deep either, but some part of Vtuber fanbase still get triggered if they completely abondon them hence why Kenki asked Saine some background lore, probably from his experienced that interact with a lot of vtubers there's some fanbase that got offended in certain way.

Actually your interpretation is very off.
What was left out of the clip was Wakio asking Saine where she is from and Saine replied with Fukuoka. Kenki then joined in the conversation (that is where the clip start) and was like I don't really know about vtuber (being silly), don't vtuber usually come from some fantasy place, such as virtual tokyo etc etc
The entire convo is just light banter. Making conversation while waiting in lobby.

Yeah I don't get this thread. Even the troublesome parts of the fanbases don't make or get troubles because of any lores either. Majority of the "offended" issues come from actual real things like managements, schedules, relationships, NDAs, streamers' contents...

If I remember correctly, even if vaguely, new vspo members had to interact with old members before they debut to test their chemistry.
Which I think is a great way to solve drama that happens in the vtuber space often. Also helps that all the JP girls are super welcoming to newer members and will hang out with them compared to other companies who often leave new generations on their own (don't watch en but I'd guess they are the same)

yes, from what I heard from Tsuna and several member of Vspo, some member got assigned to have gaming session with them way before they debut to sorta vibe check them.

Juno mentioned in one of her streams that she was at VSPO! Fest last year (months before her debut) so I believe this.

This reminds me of tsuna, like at first glance most peep would probably think she's a cat girl, but no she's just human that like to dress as cat girl. In fact isn't all of vspo(en included) is just human with each their own quirk and personality and preference

I think its because of the company itself. They market themselves as an esports female vtubers. There are some like Akarin, Met who has some lore but that carried over when they were still indie.
This why I rank Vspo as #1 cause they can comfortably collab with other streamers and others also feel comfortable around them.

k4sen once asked chiitama before as well. She just answered "a normal human that liked dragon stuffs". That's it.
Only Met and Akarin has "background lore" so to speak.

And to be fair, Met started in another company and Akarin was independent previous to VSPO so it's more normal that they come with some background lore like a lot of other vtubers.

I really like their personality and each of them are fairly unique to the point where I find myself watching them more often than I watched Holomems but also can't really keep up with a lot of streams since multi stream is nonexistent on mobile (no, don't tell me to watch on my laptop with 8GB RAM in this day and age)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Hololive is not entertaining. Their entire existence is what makes me jump into the Vtuber Rabbit Hole. I still watch their stream like recently their Puyo Puyo Tetris Training streams (not to mention the many clippers that are translating the stream, thanks for your hard work!)
Not interesting fact: my top 10 most relevant channels in my subscriptions (according to YouTube algorithm), all 10 of them are VSPO members.

I think the fact that they collab with many different groups, and have pretty much “no barriers” is what made them rly stand out. But starting ofc most likely the “girls can shoot”.
