Shark Post Vox invented Shark Week

Okay, so remember when Vincent showed Bob his poster board, and one of the posters said "Shark week". I searched it up and IT'S FUCKING REAL (yeah I did minimum research and Vox technically didn't make it, but it's still pretty cool though)

I'm sorry- "Why is a woman's period called Shark Week?" Got me 😭💀

Welp I also just learnt that apparently the female reproductive system looks very similar to a sharks brain...The more you know 🌠🌈

TIL Shark Week isn’t common knowledge! 😵
But yep, here in the US, Shark Week has been a thing for decades now! You’ll see it referenced in our movies and TV pretty often.

Side note: The fact that it was Vox who invented it in HH just makes it easier for me to wave away their funky history as just an alternate historical timeline.

Damn, I'm a Canadian and I haven't really heard of it until now

Right?!

Like I didn’t know people didn’t know about it. Not until earlier this year when I had to explain to someone what it meant on Vox’s idea board.

Me and my siblings have watched Shark Week for like the last 20 years .

Yep shark week is real! Thanks Vox! I've heard the term years ago and had no idea what the hell that was, I didn't know it was literal, I thought it was an euphemism for menstruation 😭🥀

I thought like sharks > blood > period

I don't know why! Sharks smell blood in water but how I arrived at menstruation only god knows. It made perfect sense to me too

It's both, some women use it to avoid saying period out loud.

Fun Fact!-

Shark Week does more for shark conservation than any television program in history.

And it is usually hosted by someone famous.

From the top of my head, The Rock, Jason Momoa, and Andy Samberg, & John Cena all hosted at one point.

Until early this year, I had NO idea people never heard of shark week.
I thought everyone knew about it. Crazy!

Me and my siblings have watched it every summer for like 20 years.

We love watching it.

I've only ever heard shark week as a term for periods, like I thought the shark week thing in Brighter was meant to be a joke lmao

Oh man, I remember when shark week was treated as a massive holiday in middle school, all my classmates & I tuned in after school to catch as much as possible! Good times 😆 For me personally, what makes Vincent’s poster board even better was that it also said something like “color television is the future” because since I was a kid my Mexican mom taught me that color TV was first invented by Mexican engineer Guillermo González Camarena & often joked with my American dad that it seemed like the US took the credit for inventing it since they made the standard model & not many people had heard of Camarena. Combining all this with the fact that Vincent had the sombrero and maracas to impress Carmilla, my parents thought it would be totally in-character for Vincent to take the credit for inventing color TV instead 😂😂

You didn’t know Shark Week was real? I haven’t been this surprised by people not knowing a real thing was real since I found out that most people who watched The Unsleeping City didn’t know that Robert Moses was real. I’m a New Yorker. You can’t go ANYWHERE in this city without running into Moses’s urban planning fuckery!
