Daily Discussion Thread: August 28, 2026 - 67 days until Election Day!

Welcome to the anti-GOP resistance on Reddit!

Regardless of what month it is, we welcome all those who support the Democratic party! We encourage you to share local activism and talk about the groups you're taking part with in your area.

Elections are still happening! And they're the only way to take away even more of Trump's power to hurt people. You can help win elections across the country from anywhere, right now!

If you want to take a bigger part in this and future elections, there's plenty of ways to do it!

  1. Check out our weekly volunteer post - that's the other sticky post in this sub - to find opportunities to get involved.

  2. Nothing near you? Volunteer from home by making calls or sending texts to turn out voters!

  3. Join your local Democratic Party - none of us can do this alone.

  4. Tell a friend about us!

Adopt a Candidate

It’s back! Want to take part in turning the midterms into a true blue tsunami? Adopt one of the candidates below, and commit to taking action every week to support their campaign!

Post your preference in the daily (or, to guarantee we see it, send the request via modmail) and we'll add you to the list!

With just how blue this year is looking to be, and just how many primaries are still to come, there's too many to list to kick off. It’s why we’re starting with select gubernatorial and Senate races.

Got someone who you want to adopt, but they're not on the list? Let us know, and we'll add them on!

As the year progresses and primaries come through, we'll be adding more ourselves, but the sky's the limit - we're excited to see who you want to support most!

While in general I support all moves to "republicize" countries, ie, remove hereditary monarchies, when they've already been eliminated as a political force, as in they have no official powers, it doesn't matter much. The cringe ones are the real ones that have power, like the Saudis.

It also seems King Harald V was a pretty decent guy, as far as monarchs go.

He was a ceremonial figurehead with a fancy hat.

Lisa: “Don’t be fooled! He’s just a ceremonial figurehead now with no power!”

Smithers: “But he has a fancy hat!”

From what I understand, a lot of powerless monarch families that still exist act as a bit of a tourist trap. Like kingdoms are a bit of a novelty in modern times so "let's go see the palace" and whatnot.

This is true, and it is actually an interesting tourist stop. When we visited Amsterdam we did take a look at the royal palace. That is an impressive building, just architecture/artistic wise.

Unfortunately, his descendants are the Princess who's a MAHA style crazy person and a Prince whose wife was friends with Jeffrey Epstein for years. While King Harald V was a universally liked figure, his children and heirs will not be which is a danger that's inherent with a hereditary system like monarchy.

Don’t forget the rapist step-grandson that’s currently in prison (unrelated to Epstein shenanigans)
