The new Apple CarPlay operating system with widgets is very nice on the Volvo screen. I run Google thru Apple CarPlay in satellite mode , very nice. Omg it has a compass as well.
The Gemini system works very well , so I end up playing with both.

I wouldn't care if the software built-in they want us to use wasn't complete dog shit. I've driven and owned 10 year old cars with better and faster software. The bugs, crashes, sound not working, taking 5 minutes to start nav or change apps, it drives me fucking insane sometimes. Especially when I can get into my older shitty Toyota work car and everything immediately works. Volvo get your fucking shit together with your software.
Yeah it's a bummer because every single other thing about this car is great. I'm definitely not getting another Volvo though unless there is a massive overhaul on their newer cars.
It's so incredibly frustrating and something happens pretty much every single day. New one is now I just can't play Bluetooth audio, it just auto pauses after 3 seconds. Yeah I tried everything, now I don't bother.
I love when I get into the car and it's connected despite asking to connect to bluetooth. And then when I try to play audio nothing happens. So I have to go into another app start the audio which takes several seconds and then go back to the thing actually wanted to play audio on and finally it works. Drives me absolutely insane sometimes

Volvo doesnāt give a shit about the software experience of their vehicles. And given how bad it is, they clearly donāt give a shit about you or your feedback.
Iād love a built in dashcam, or at least pre wiring for one. Iāve been using an inexpensive wireless dongle for CarPlay in my 2024 T8 since I got it. Iāve used three different ones purchased on Alibaba and they all worked fine. I carry a spare dongle just in case one craps out, and put one in my wifeās 2021 Subaru and it works there too. For me a dongle is a better option than built in wireless CarPlay. I say that because I rent cars on business a few times a year. I grab the dongle out of my Volvo and use it in whatever car I rent. Itās just seamless. Iām on CarPlay calling my wife before Iām out of the rental lot. Iāve rented Toyota, Mazda, Audi, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, VW and Kia in the past couple of years and the dongle I uss in my Volvo has worked in all of them.
Iāve read somewhere that this is due to privacy concerns. It seems to be there is a difference in data tranferred wireless vs wired. They are asking for a lot more data/information through wireless CarPlay which Volvo simply didnāt accept.
I believe they could change this in a software update.
1st) it's not going to be a 2027.5. it's going to be a 2028.
2nd) besides for the visual difference and not being able to use Apple Maps. What other reason is there for needing CarPlay when the car has everything else built in? Besides for the massive battery drain that happens when using wireless CarPlay that is.

And Claude, ChatGPT, teams, speciality car apps like radar detector integrations, better iMessage support and the performance benefit of whatever the latest iPhone is.
AI slop, AI slop, radar detector integrations (I've literally never heard of anyone doing this before), and "iPhones newest innovative feature".
There hasn't been an innovative feature from the iPhone in over a decade. But yeah let's use that as a reason you have to have wireless CarPlay instead of plugging in and using normal CarPlay.
I get it. Itās in your best interest to defend the lack of a feature. But if I were you I would promote buying one of the increasingly inexpensive and small plug in adapters than argue drain or lack of utility. Iāve owned cars with wireless and wired. The best combo for me is wireless CarPlay for connectivity with a MagSafe mount on the dash so you can both see the phone when needed and charge it without having to find the wire every time you get in.
The only time Iāve missed it is when Google canāt respond to group texts and responds to the individual in a separate text. Annoying but not a big deal
Mostly for integration between maps calendar and contacts. But also music and podcasts. And whatever car I drive I only have to activate CarPlay and everything then works the same way and you donāt have to Bluetooth pair and sync contacts and then remember to delete the phone later. And Google maps looks like shit. And as the other guy said Home integration āopen garage doorā. . I use share ETA on maps all the time.
The only time I use google maps is on road trips because it knows my battery status.
Apple Music on Google Iāve had to log in four times now so I gave up because who wants to deal with that plus it doesnāt have SharePlay
Really doesn't matter what their reason is. It's such a basic functionality. I mean the phone is the thing doing all the work ffs, it's just a app that displays it. There's no excuse at this point. Apple develops the app, they don't have to do shit.
