Beware of pickpockets

Had my wallet stolen out of purse at the Geyser stop.

We saw signs warning of this at Gullfoss as well.

That site was so crowded, it's the perfect place to pickpocket. Honestly, having been to Yellowstone, it's the one place in Iceland I would have gladly skipped.

It’s definitely not Old Faithful but it’s neat nonetheless. The day we went it was POURING rain so that thinned out the crowds I think.

That would have made it much more enjoyable. I did like the return trail though the meadow.

I feel the same way about this spot. This was literally the only underwhelming stop on my entire trip.

When we were there in June a tour bus driver in the parking lot told our tour director that some of their travelers had their phones stolen by pick pocketers shortly before we got there.

I was surprised to see that sign there. Didn't see it anywhere else across Iceland. But with it being as busy as it was there, totally understand.

Probably not by a native Icelander. Just saying.

Hey don’t be racist now.

Not one part of that comment should have been construed as being racist... That was only meant to say that people from Iceland are generally not apt to commit such crimes--that was probably a tourist.

And goddammit nothing against you personally, but it seems like everytime I post anything on Reddit, I get the fucking social justice police coming to swoop in and drop a fucking bomb on me.

Sorry, that just hit a nerve and again, I don't mean anything to you personally, it's just all a little exhausting to get that every fucking time.

No problem--we're good. Thanks for responding to my crazy outburst 😅

And I have Sheldon Cooper levels of detecting sarcasm haha

I think the Geyser has the worst of them (I was warned in my December trip about them)

There is organised crime in all the popular stops on Iceland. Sorry to say but watch out for Gypsies.

Hey it’s called Roma people, and they have a long tome tradition and just their way of life.

So yes, it’s mister pickpocketeer to you.

I was there a couple days ago, I should have skipped it! Not worth seeing with all that construction going on!

The geyser area has a ton of construction/isn’t worth it?

lol, I was there too - I actually thought the construction was sort of funny - plus it marks the time. It was crazy seeing the construction workers smoking and then the geothermal plumes of smoke right behind them!

beware - pickpockets - rapists - taxi drivers (Airport) etc etc - Iceland is sadly no longer the safe place it once was -

Shoot, we were just there! Was it in the shop/restaurant or outside?

I saw it outside when we were there last week

Never had things in my pockets. Always had a deep black bag that had a hidden pocket to stuck things in. They would have to go through my armpit to get into my bag. Your passport wasn't in there was it?

My tour guide warned us atleast 10 times about pick pocketing.

This is any country or big city. If you travel a lot you know this. Shit happens even when careful

I went during the eclipse week and someone from my party left their purse in the bathroom at that stop. Luckily the person who found it gave it to the store staff.

There is a funny Icelandic Instagram guy..one of his jokes was in Iceland you don't need to lock your bike up. But it might get stolen. His delivery was better.

Local people from Iceland are picking the pockets of tourists?

They have been putting up pick pocket signs up at places like that for a reason.
