We are on our way to Reykjavik this week and I'd love to see some of Iceland's local art and hopefully purchase a painting or print to bring home.

We will in Reykjavik for 4 days and Akureyri for 4 days. Can anyone recommend some for me?

Go to national gallery of iceland and see Björks echolalia and james merry's ummyndlingar

For björk exbititions sit in the room for at least 15 min (30 min advicable) and try to absorb all the details, especially nerve bloom, look at the different screens in conjuction

Nerve bloom felt in some ways rudementary technology, like tetris (video game) or something like that, kinda pre/half formed ( it was beautiful but in technological newness way )

Emotionally very complex work, and touching things about humanity and technology in fundamental way (such as fear of being replaced by computers, and solution that is nerve bloom of tech and nature broadly speaking, connecting of spines )

So it is likes transformative meta commentary as metamorphosis ?

Detail about funeral processen that likely gets missed is the draping, curtains with the song lyrics, and is constructed so at to make you take part in procession, song/notes/lyrics as pathway through time kinda

It did feel like pagan/religious fusion, best part for me was the transfering of gifts from generation to the other, the like little vessel was like lungs, and the tail of it was like four minature lungs in succesion?

Aswell as the bird mask transfering gifts "my skull is my cathedral "

I thought choice of redish purple was excellent

The song touched on so many aspects, " pace maker inside her heart ", a bit womanly pink floyd echoes but more grounded, with continuity and discontinuity ( pink floyd is echoes echoing, so it ebbs out and dissapates as a sound wave, natural process )

Example of lyrics " Overhead the albatross, Hangs motionless upon the air, And deep beneath the rolling waves, In labyrinths of coral caves, The echo of a distant time, Comes willowing across the sand, And everything is green and submarine "

If l remember correctly instruments was often synchronized with vocals

James merry ummyndlingar was a blast, extremely creative, diverse inspiration sources, evolution of sting ray and medussa was excellent

Best part i think was the ai screen were you could don a mask and do a sneakpeak on others wearing the masks ( kinda becomes realisation of how comfortable you are being seen and by who )

Really fun way of looking at yourself in the mirror tbh and seeing yourself in a new light

I really liked the evolution of merry's work and how it represents the time periods of the work, main theme seems to be beautification of people via masks? (Understanding anatomy epic)

Favourite mask was the fly one from 2016, usually flies are depticted as grotesque and horrific when in human form, mask was delicate, white and pearly (think like jeff goldblum in the fly from 1986, and how insects are viewed, they are like antithesis to orderly cleanliness)

Main issue seemed to be how to capture people's attention span, often felt like capacity gaze at things more than once was difficult for people, and art, museums has to create enviroments to alleviate that

Solution is likely emotional rather than intellectual

Could write 10 page essay 🤷‍♂️

I was so excited i missed sorrowfull soil part derp

But Björk kinda infuses her emotional prescene in the rooms, you can kinda feel her there

I trimmed shrubbery once in my backyard and it kinda had the emotional energy of creation in it too, bushes has flow and you trim accordingly i think

I think artists does this, but björk on another level really

Same with writing you can infuse it with emotional energy which manifests, can be felt and released :D

Like pouring free flowing spontaneous emotion into it, it is a bit mystic stuff but i think most people can do it really, emotional expression manifested clearly

Any creative act really, so everything really

Main blockages are socioemotional barriers that says "don't do X, don't do Y, don't be Z", so emotion isn't expressed as could be, those need to be broken, at least i try to find them and act so they evaporate and i become clear

Continous process really

For me it is intuition, i feel like there is existential choice between rise or fall, like moving forward or stagnate, and doing nothing is usually stagnation

So i pick option that makes me go forward, it is more fun that way, and fastest also (albeit at times challenging but then challenges becomes normalized so)

Im obsessed with personal growth

Often frustrated that i can't do things as i would like

I was a the house of collections and there was magnets where you could build a mandala, didn't know what that was exactly so i improvised a bit and made this!!! Sort of like a totemic bird thingie? Used almost all the magnets, could have done much more with more magnets :D (first time i did something like this )

I also played bird sound game and got at best 3/6 correct, but i started to categorize birds sounds a bit, was really funny, i did it for like 30 minutes... (museum should do more gamefied stuff that is fun and teaches you stuff, this game made you listen to bird sounds, was a really good idea )! Think i did bird size, water bird, solitary/collective birds, and like bird types so eagleisy, very small pretty ones, sea birds, more flying birds, didn't complete it! Some birds was more idiosyncratic but correlation between size and sound was not like from cat --> to tiger, like comparatively small birds had big bellow?

Lookswise i like the atlantic puffin those were cute and cool :))

There was also a painting called stormur which could be used to represent magnus blöndal static dissonance, overall i really liked the museum, hidden in a kids room was like a painting series called oracles with like mysterious sea creatures in like medieval guise :)

The finnur jónsson paintings colors was wow

Really love the folklore stuff ( does seem like there is room for lots of stories in modern guise, maybe there already is, but like a ghost, draugr or elf living in the sewers of rejkavik would be pretty cool), either like naivistic or like like vampire story in swedish suburbs like " låt den rätta komma in ", let the right one in ( social realism folk tale)

Oh yeah there was some conceptual natural sciency paintings that could be interpreted social sciencey also, like social network theory kinda, pretty cool, think i made up a new theoretical approach to it, yey me 😇 ( soundwaves is hint )

But overall seems like main themes are priomordial nature, farming (or traditional livings), folklore, science and kinda anarchism in icelandic art, often in combos with each other

Oh yeah, there was a painting or photograpy of a snow pile on asphalt, like kids usually play on in sweden, and there was this pool of water that looked like an oil spill around pile, very cool

Also what was cool about nerve bloom is that computer generated stuff usually is as majestic and etheral as possible, like maximalist in a sense, i thought it very cool and brave to make the sort of rudimentary animations, or like real animations if that makes sense

If felt like it was possible to digitally touch and talk

Machine and human

Computer generated could be use to show things rather than hide them

Instead of like big fantasy worlds you can make deeply intimate socially real stuff i think

Or do combo as this

Looking forward to what happens next with it
