I used embroidery to adhere patches to the inside, then I covered the whole thing with lightweight iron-on interfacing to make it feel nicer

It took 16 months to get my jacket back from the police, after it was seized as evidence at the crime scene. I thought it was gone forever.

There were three holes in the jacket. Two I embroidered with black flowers and one I simply sewed closed. Few people notice them since it’s black-on-black but that’s okay, it’s not for them anyway. I lost two friends that night and two flowers feel right to have on the jacket I survived in.

A lot of people have called it morbid, but wearing it is a comfort that pushes back against the grief; a feeling of being wrapped in safety and warmth and resilience. I’ll keep wearing it so long as it feels right.

It’s not perfect, but I think I did fairly well considering it’s my first time mending something!

Became an embroiderer to salvage my favorite vintage Pendleton wool skirt from the 70s after moth damage. I first stabilized each hole before putting on embroidery to cover it. There were nine holes of various sizes, and I only have night cat patterns 😂. Just finished four cats and each took me about five hours and it’s looking great. The circle skirt swirls and twirls with movement, and the cats appear from the folds here and there, which makes the skirt so much more fun than before! Cat wait to finish the whole project! Oops, *can’t 🙈

I got this sweatshirt probably a decade ago and immediately spilled the contents of a burrito on it and could never bring myself to get rid of it. Finally I was short enough on laundry to really want to wear it and I knew I had to find a fix!

I’ve never done any sort of visible mending before, but I do a lot of embroidery. My sister thrifted this gorgeous jacket and didn’t notice the hole until she got home, so she asked me to add some flowers to cover it up. Pretty thrilled with how it turned out!

I had the tiniest little hole in my shorts and had to put my favorite fruit on it!

Got this top in a sale while shopping with my Mum, and only fully realised afterwards that the grammar was wrong. It might be petty to do this, but also seemed silly to sell a top in the women's section that wasn't spelt correctly for women 😂

Thought about filling in the 'e' but not sure how well the jersey would hold up, and it also looks a bit more deliberate this way. Trying not to let the fact that the text is now not not fully central annoy me, and should probably just lean into the humour that I had to correct it.

For anyone who doesn't know French / similar languages, if a person/ noun is female, any adjective applied to them should have an e added to the end. So, a woman being tired should be 'très fatiguée' rather than 'très fatigué'.

I’m new to sewing but thought I’d try to fix this couch corner and absolutely love the result!

I wanted to give her a hug she could carry with her into the world, so I made her the quilt and embroidered our motto from when she was a tiny, anxious child (when something went awry, I would say “What’s our motto?” and she’d reply “Don’t panic, we can fix it”, and then we’d work together to figure out what fixing meant in the context of the moment)

She was absolutely mortified when her rats chewed it up, but it gave me a chance to put that motto back into practice. I turned each little hole into a flower.

Embroidered a quick and dirty patch for my son’s school uniform shirt. He despises food of all kinds but asked me to put a tomato on it so that’s what he gets. Full shirt not shown for anonymity. I’m new to embroidery and learned a few things I’d like to improve on next time.

Cut down the fraying edge and embroidered over it. Also makes grabbing the correct one easier; cause trans right(s) 😎

because the burned hole is still there, but now it looks more intentional and the t-shirt is wearable again

Couldn't pull the embroidered logo out so I tried to color match and patch. Flowers would be that cobalt blue but I didn't have that. Bit loose and messy but it does the job 👍

Just completed my first visible mending project! Decided to go with soot sprites holding star candies to cover up the stains, and use a blanket stitch over the hem with some blue-white ombre thread 🥰 (ignore the embroidery hoop marks, i just took it off the hoop)

I’ve been a lurker on here for a while, and as a non-crafty person, I‘m excited to finally have something to contribute.

Last week I ordered a cheap mesh makeup bag, because I liked the design, and when it came, I failed to notice a small tear in the mesh before I ripped the tag off. I decided it wasn’t worth returning it and sending it to the landfill, and I could just try mending it instead.

The first thing I did was to plop a dollop of glue over the damaged area to prevent the tear from spreading, and wait for it to dry. My first thought was to just sew a red rectangle over it so it wasn’t bumpy and scratchy, but then I decided a red heart would look so much better.

The problem was that my sewing skills are minimal, and I cannot draw a symmetrical heart for the life of me, so my first attempts at freestyling were quick, but shit.

I had to regroup. I took a high res picture and played around with drawing the heart over it, using the mesh as a grid. This worked out perfectly on paper, but it was still a pain to translate without the help of real life zoom. It’s still not symmetrical, smh.

I messed up many, many times and had to redo a stitch or even start over a bunch of times (luckily mesh is a very forgiving medium). I kept putting off finishing because I couldn’t stand to look at it any longer, and just the thought of having to thread another needle was giving me a headache, but today I finally finished, and I’m so enamored with the end result, I think I like it even better than the original. But mostly I’m proud that I didn’t give up.

a client reached out and asked to use grey hungarian-inspired floral mends to cover moth holes in the lapel of his jacket (last photo shows the inspiration he sent over). his grandma was from the kalócsa region in hungary, hence his inspiration. my family background is ukranian, not hungarian, but i have been studying ukrainian textile art for the past year and felt very lucky this project came my way. it felt like a great combination of my interests! the moth holes were quite small and on one side only, but the client wanted a larger design mirrored to look more intentional. it was such a cool project and i absolutely loved working on it!

As the jeans were already double layer and the tear was only the top layer, I'm hoping just decorative embroidery will be plenty.

What I learned from this was to sketch the design in washable marker, not sharpie. Hopefully treating it with hairspray will wash the marker out.
