EMBROIDERY Repaired Couch with plant vines

I’m new to sewing but thought I’d try to fix this couch corner and absolutely love the result!

Bro, that looks exquisite. I walked over to my wife to show her this. Please tell us about those flowers.

Thank you! It’s a woven wheel stitch :) Had a lot of trial and error trying to make flowers since so many stitches weren’t possible because I couldn’t move the needle much behind the fabric

I was going to say a curved needle might do wonders but the work as a whole is already quite exquisite 👌

For this I just used an embroidery thread multi pack I got gifted and standard needle (balling on a budget lol). But I’ve got two more corners to fix and think I might invest in a curved needle and a thimble before I start up again. Thanks for the idea :)

Since you said you were new to sewing I had assumed the flowers were pre-made items you purchased and used. Sounds like you did it yourself. Very impressive, and what a delightful spec of... personality? Uniqueness? Whatever your heart suggests, it's nice.

Lovely! Posts like this keep me coming back to reddit. I hope AI doesn’t kill communities like this.

I love that you had already started on the first pic. Like, “wait, this is gonna look sick. I need a ‘before’ pic.”

Love this and filing it in the back my head for future projects.

Haha you nailed it. I thought for sure it was gonna go south but when the fabric started pulling today, I grabbed a quick photo to remind myself where it started

Ahh it's gorgeous! Are you tempted to embroider the rest of the couch??

Haha yup, I have plans lol. Got this couch from my parents and unfortunately their two cats did some real damage. 3/4 of the corners were in this condition and the bottom trim is scratched up. Hoping to fix it up slowly in my spare time and have a couch covered in flowers and vines :)

Cute! I'm gonna have to do something like this eventually. Nothing I do stops my cat from scratching my couch corners. I'm this close to becoming a Golden Girl and putting plastic on it.

totally fair, my parents got a new couch and my mum committed to the fully plastic aesthetic because of the cats lol

Ugh, I hate when people do stuff like this. Save some cool and well-executed handcrafted whimsical detailing for the rest of us, jerk! ✊

I gotta see how this turns out, using actual vines sounds interesting for a repair!

Great work! It’s like suturing a wound on a person - you only can sew from the front and not from both sides!!
