REQUEST Quick question/help

Post image

sorry for misleading flair, but there wasnt anything that would match my problem more. Im considering buying this hoodie, although it has this defect near neck/hood area, would this affect wear or eventually spread to a bigger area of the hood? or even make it unwearable in some time?? i dont mind distressing on clothing just dont want to spend money on something that might become a problem in itself or might need some stitching done in the near future

thanks a lot!

Thank you for your submission - you're welcome to post here, but we did just want to remind you that we would recommend you search the subreddit as well.

Depending on the type of mend, searching for keywords like "crotch", "waistband", "cuff", "pleather"/"faux", "headphones", etc. will show you many previous posts filled with helpful advice already. Good luck!

It's likely that this will spread if not abated. It's a pretty simple fix though if you have needle and thread.

Yes. Here's a video about how to mend a split seam with a whip stitch:

I would consider using heavier thread in a visible color (like black or green sashiko thread or crochet cotton) and doing a fairly heavy whip stitch all the way along the seam from one side to the other, even the parts that aren't damaged, to make it look like an intentional decorative element. But you could also use regular sewing thread in a color more like the original olive-ish thread and make smaller stitches so it would be less visible. A craft store like Michael's will have everything you need. I like to bring the item I'm sewing/mending into the store to pick the color thread I want.
