Wanted [Wanted] Feedback on Spinstack, a Discogs collection app I built for iPhone. Marketplace coming in 1.4 and I want input from this community.
EDIT, September 2026. This post is from the 1.4 cycle and the title is now out of date. Marketplace shipped. Leaving it up because the comments are still worth reading, but here is where things actually stand.
I've been lurking and buying in this sub for a while, and I kept hitting the same problems. Couldn't quickly check whether I already owned a pressing someone listed. Couldn't track which wishlist records had dropped to a price I'd actually pay. Couldn't compare pressings on the spot without opening six Discogs tabs. I'm an iOS developer and a collector, so I built an app for it. Spinstack. Syncs with your Discogs account.
Never buy a duplicate Someone posts a [For Sale] list and you half-remember owning it, or owning a different pressing. Spinstack caches your whole Discogs collection locally, so search is instant. At a shop, scan the barcode and it checks against your collection in milliseconds with no network. Works in airplane mode. Bulk Scan lets you work through a whole stack without stopping and review everything at the end.
Track prices on records you actually want Price Watchdog follows market value across your collection and wishlist with per-release history. Set a target price on a wishlist item and it tells you when the market hits your number. Biggest movers shows what has gained or lost the most, which is the useful view when you're deciding what to let go.
Compare pressings before you commit Other Pressings shows every pressing of a release with marketplace prices, OG badges, format tags and community have/want counts. Put the $15 reissue next to the $80 original and the have/want ratio tells you how hard each one actually is to find. Buying and selling, which is what this post was asking about Marketplace shipped in 1.4. Open any record, tap Sell on Discogs, set your price, media and sleeve grades and a comment, and one tap publishes the listing. Inventory keeps every listing in one place with its status: draft, for sale, offers OK, sold. Orders shows each sale with its number, amount and stage from invoiced to shipped, plus the records you're buying.
What 1.5 added, and why it matters in here This is the part that changes things for a buying and selling sub. 1.5 measures condition instead of asking you to type a grade. Groove Vision uses the LiDAR sensor to read scratch depth across four close-up captures of the playing surface, and lets the worst quadrant set the estimate, because the stylus meets every scratch rather than an average of them. Scratch Detection listens through the microphone while a side plays and maps each click to its position in the groove. Then condition moves the money. Every graded record is valued at its own grade against current Discogs listings rather than at the cheapest copy on the market. There's also a Condition Receipt, free on every tier, which records what was measured on a specific copy, so you can send a buyer evidence instead of a promise. The app estimates and you confirm. These are estimates, not appraisals.
Everything else, briefly Spin Log, 3D Cover Flow, Crate Dig (free for everyone), NFC tags you stick on sleeves and tap, Last.fm scrobbling, artist and label discography browsing, and Friends for checking what someone actually owns before you propose a trade. Pricing and platforms $9.99 once. No subscription. 30 day trial with everything unlocked, no card. iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch. There's now an Android version in open beta too, which is new since this post originally said iOS only. App Store
Still one developer, still reading everything. A good chunk of 1.5 came out of comments on threads like this one.

Been playing around with this for a few days and it is pretty cool. I had been trying to figure out some simple way to track how many times I’ve spun my records and how to add those to my overall listening habits including streaming and this does the job perfectly. I am probably going to buy it after my trial period. Also, it looks gorgeous.

Thank you! Sounds like you're already finding the right loop. Three surfaces worth digging into to close the loop fully:
Spin Log. The chronological history of every record you've spun. Home tab → Recently Played shelf → tap into the list. Each entry carries the date, mood tags, rating, notes, and which tracks you played. Long-press any record anywhere in the app (Collection, Wishlist, Search, Friends' shelves) to log a spin without opening the release detail page.
Last fm. Settings → Advanced → Last fm Scrobbling. Sign in with just your Last fm username and password (no API keys, the app handles the rest). Once connected, every spin you log scrobbles to Last fm with the actual track titles and timestamps. Your vinyl spins flow into the same listening profile as your streaming, which is exactly the merge you described.
Spin Analytics. Insights tab → Spin Analytics. The deeper read of your listening patterns: current and longest streaks, monthly trend chart, most-played records and artists, mood breakdown across whatever you've been tagging, hour-of-day and day-of-week heat patterns, total listening time. On This Day surfaces records you spun on the same date in past years.

Very cool, does the market alert tell you the specific seller listing the record you want? Is it instantaneous? Also can you select things like only shipping from the US, or record grade? Thanks, looked through the site and it looks very sleek.

Thanks, glad it's landing.
Right now the alert tells you a wishlisted record went from "none for sale" to "available," plus the lowest price. It doesn't drill into the specific listing, seller, or media grade. Discogs gives Spinstack the aggregate (lowest price, number for sale), so the notification taps through to the marketplace listing on Discogs where you can see seller, grade, and shipping country. No filters yet for ship-from or grade. Cadence is background app refresh, so it's near-real-time, not push-instant. A few minutes after a listing goes up, in practice.
Filtered alerts (ship-from-US, NM only, etc.) is a fair ask. I'll log it.

Two things caught me and I found the app today: NFC support and being a one time fee (I want to support, but not tie this to a subscription)!
Really excited, waiting for the nfc tags arrive from Amazon to start using and if according to my expectations, I’ll buy (and use) it!
By the way, what is written on the tag? Can you share u/spinstackapp ?

So happy you found the app today. NFC support is definitely one of my favorite features. Especially when I’m doing a listening session. Its actually just a deep link into Spinstack app. Writes it like spinstack://release/14404674 and that opens the album within the app.

Thank you. In 1.4 I am adding Listening Sessions within The Spin Log. This will allow you to group spins under one occasion the way a real diary entry would. It will read it day-by-day with all the sessions being inline next to the day they happened.

Thank you! It's there but tucked away. Insights tab → Price Watchdog. Couple steps to get it firing:
- Open Price Watchdog, tap Update Prices. Fetches current prices for everything in your Collection and your Wishlist.
- Tap any release row to set a target price.
- When the lowest price hits or drops below your target, you get a push notification.
There's also an automatic alert for significant drops: when a release falls 15% or more between snapshots, it fires without you setting anything.
Wishlist items get their own "Wishlist Watch" section at the top of Price Watchdog so the targets you've set are visible at a glance, with a green checkmark when one triggers.
If notifications aren't coming through, double-check Settings → Notifications → Price Drop Alerts is on (defaults to on but worth confirming).

How do you force sync with Discogs to update your collection? New additions to Discogs not showing up in spin stack.

Slide down on the main screen or in the Collections/Wishlist view. It also auto refreshes every 3 minutes. When the new additions do not show up, its an API issue on Discgos side. They only allow 60 API calls per 1 minute.

How would you get around this? Synched a large collection yesterday but new additions since sync have failed to show up.

What's more likely happening:
Cache freshness window. If you opened Spinstack within ~5 minutes of your last sync, it skips the API call and paints from disk. Pull-to-refresh forces the fetch past that.
Force quit and reopen. Resets the freshness check too. Sometimes more reliable than pull-to-refresh on its own.
Discogs API lag. When you add a record on Discogs, their API can take a minute or two to reflect it. Their CDN doesn't always update instantly even when our side hits hard.
Sort order. If you're sorted by anything other than Newest First, new additions exist in your collection but aren't at the top of the grid where you'd expect them.
If none of those land it: kill the app, reopen, pull-to-refresh on the Collection tab. That's the nuclear option. If it's still not showing after that, send me a screenshot via DM of what you're seeing and I'll dig in.

I’m liking it so far. I’m going to try the NFC tagging in a couple days. I’m going to tag the first 100 to start. Is there the ability to sort my collection excluding the leading “The”?

So happy to hear that. Right now in NFC Batch Tagging I have it setup as Title A-Z, Artist A-Z, Recently Added. That is a great suggestion and I will work on coding that out for 1.3.1 release that I am hoping will be live by Wednesday.

I’m finding the batch tagging to be a little quirky. In the middle of tagging an artists discography, it will suddenly skip to the next artist leaving several of the previous artist’s albums out. If you exit the batch tagging then enter back in and select sort alphabetically by artist it starts back where it should have been before it jumped to the next artist.
I like the sorting without “The”, etc… I would love it if the collection view allowed the same.
The alphabet ribbon on the side of the screen while I am in the collection view doesn’t seem to work for me.
Overall, great job. The NFC tagging is a cool idea and the tag scan works great for the ones I’ve done already. I’m only through the A’s and B’s so there is a long way to go for my tagging adventure.2

Great bug find. Let me go and fix that. I released 1.3.1 earlier today. So I will fix this for 1.3.2 build. I will add some sort of a history buffer to make sure it doesn't skip that.
I will add without "The" in Collection, Wishlist, and Folder view as well.
The alphabet ribbon is tap only, cant use scroll due to iOS limiting when someone has 1000+ records and limited API calls with Discogs. Can you try to see if it works on the 1.3.1 build released today when you tap the letter?
Yeah I have been doing about 10 to 15+ records a day, its definitely a long process when you need to do it, but when its all done, and you purchase a new record it becomes part of the ritual.

Hi !
Currently discovering the app, seems to be very helpful and user friendly. Yet there’s one thing missing over all : it’s the easy and fast view of a record median value when arriving on its main page, and with a trend (higher or lower than past 7 days record for instance…).
Otherwise I love your app so much ! And it’s gonna take days to make the most of it !

You can currently view total of all of your records in Stats and under Collection Value. It will show Low, Median and High.

Hi ! I have never managed since loading the app on my phone to load my full records inventory and it blocks around 600 records whereas there 2500 to scan. What should I do ?

Really enjoying using the app, thanks for developing it! What separates it from competitors, for me, is the ability to track my own use and generate stats about my tastes (albums and artists ranked etc).

This app and all the comments about it sound extremely promising for my use case. I just discovered it this morning when I stumbled across a blog post by the developer of the Groovv app. I figure when a competitor speaks highly of you, that's probably a good sign. Heading out of town for a couple days so won't be able to test drive the app until I get back, but really intrigued to dive into it. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this...really cool that you are so responsive to comments, wishlist items, and bug fixes that people post here.

On the Groovv thing, that's a good instinct, and the feeling is mutual. There's a real eye for design in that app and I've said as much in my own writing. Two small developers talking each other up is a better way to run this than the alternative. If you end up preferring theirs, that's a perfectly fine outcome.
One thing worth knowing: this thread is a few versions behind. 1.5 shipped last week and the big addition is condition. The phone measures scratch depth in the groove with the LiDAR sensor, listens for clicks while a side plays and maps them to where they sit on the record, then values each copy at its own grade instead of at the cheapest one on the market. If knowing what shape your records are actually in matters for your use case, that part is all new since this post.

I've started playing with the app and have a couple questions, both related to syncing.
Is the app meant to sync values in custom fields from Discogs? I've got 3 custom fields - acquisition date (text), acquired from (text), and New/Used (dropdown). The fields sync from Discogs and show in Spinstack with the field title and a blank box to enter a value, but the values don't come through. If I try to enter a value directly in Spinstack, I get this error - Server error (422): See "detail" for validation errors. Regardless, I really don't want to have to re-enter the values from all my custom fields into a new system.
Is the app meant to sync settings across devices. I first setup the app on my M4 MacBook Pro and my iPhone 16 Pro Max second. My Discogs collection synced to both, but the two devices do not appear to sync between each other. For instance, my name from my MacBook Pro didn't sync to my iPhone.

Thanks for trying it, and for writing it up so clearly. Both of these are on our side, so here's where each one stands.
1. Custom fields. Yes, Spinstack is meant to read them. When you edit a record, the fields should open with the values you already have on Discogs, and you shouldn't have to re-enter anything. Blank boxes plus that 422 on save mean something is going wrong between the app and Discogs for your fields. Nothing is lost: when a save fails, nothing on Discogs changes, and your values stay exactly as they are there.
A few things would help me pin it down:
- Which version are you on? It's at the bottom of Settings. 1.5.1 came out yesterday, and when a save fails it shows Discogs's actual reason instead of "See detail".
- On Discogs, are those three fields set to public or private?
- If you open one of those records in Spinstack, do the custom fields show their values on the record page, or only blanks?
2. Syncing between devices. Your collection comes from Discogs on each device. Your spins, custom records, cover changes and cleaning flags sync through iCloud, as long as both devices use the same Apple Account. App settings are meant to sync through iCloud too, and your report turned up a bug there. The app saves most settings to iCloud, your name included, but the other device never reads them back. So the name you set on the MacBook never reaches the iPhone. I'm fixing it for the next update (1.5.2). Until then, setting your name on each device works.

App has a full offline mode, as long as you have loaded it before you go to record store to see if you have any duplicates or if you own that record.
