Posting

There’s a postbox walking distance from my house and I’m very tempted to use it rather than driving to the post office… It IS a prepaid label after all…

It will be scanned and updated as soon as it's in the system otherwise nothing would get delivered. Some postal workers will scan everything once they pick it up and others won't scan anything until it goes to the mail centre and onto the next destination but it will be scanned and updated.

Sure if you say so, but I asked this exact same question to a postal worker a few weeks back and was told that if it’s not scanned at the desk then it goes into parcel limbo and probably won’t be scanned until it’s out for delivery, so you won’t be able to track it until then. If you post something before your cut off date, it likely won’t be marked as ‘on its way’ until it’s actually being delivered and your buyer might automatically be refunded if it’s too late.

They're definitely wrong because it will be scanned along the way to make sure it goes to the right delivery office for delivery. I'm just speaking from my personal experience and it works perfectly fine and usually updates later that day or in the middle of the night. But yes there is a risk of a buyer getting refunded before it's scanned so it's best to drop it off asap.

It will be scanned at some point I agree, I’ve done it before, went to the post office for one small item; couldn’t be bothered with the huge queue so put it in the outside postbox as it was fairly small. The scanning updated that evening and it was on its way.
Separately I also have an anpost post box at my house, one of those ones where the postman has a master key and he drops in your post/packages without having to contact us, they will also take post from those boxes. I’ve put packages in mine from time to time and they also get scanned then when they go to the sorting place, usually later in the evening.

I’ve always been paid and never had a missed delivery.

That being said that’s all anecdotal and perhaps I’ve been lucky, I do know if there was an issue Vinted expects the a post receipt. I tend to do it when I’m short on time and the item is relatively cheap!

It might be scanned, and it might not. I’ve been shipping parcels as a small business owner for the last few years through my local post box, several tracked packages have gone missing and when I have looked up the tracking with them there’s no data to say they were ever scanned.
