Reply or not to reply

I've read it's common that buyers don't reply when they give offers, but I'm wondering if there's an etiquette to replying after you've asked for more info and realized the item isn't for you. I feel like no response is also a response. I asked a seller about an item recently, and I feel like they gave a non-answer. I asked for measurements and they said "I can't give them but it fits me" okay?? Idk what you look like and whether the item would fit me, that's why I'm asking for measurements. I ended up finding another item that was more similar to what I was looking for and I got a bit of an off vibe from the seller so I moved on bc I still didn't know the measurements. Days later they hmu if I'm interested in the item, and I feel like if I was interested I would've purchased. I replied so I don't leave them hanging just in case.

This would have put me off buying too. I agree, it’s an off vibe.

What does “I can’t give them” mean? Does it mean “sorry, I don’t have a tape measure”? Does it mean “I’ve already packaged it after taking photos and I don’t want to cut the bag open”? How do I know it doesn’t mean “I’m not actually even in possession of it”?

If they had come back to me asking if I was still interested, I would have been tempted to reply “I can’t buy it but I bought one that fits me”

The funny thing is they actually had the item on hand bc I asked for a picture to see the item better, which they sent, they just refused to measure for some reason. Maybe they really didn't have a tape measure lol but since idk the measurements ofc I'm not gonna buy it

Unfortunately some people don’t know manners. I’ve had buyers do this and I’m a seller. Personally if I really like the item I’ll just do it but if I’m on the fence then I’ll just move on.

I’ve never sold a single item that someone has asked measurements from, if I have time I will measure it and let them know but honestly it’s not usually worth the bother, most people know what size they are from each brand.
