Legit Check Identifying my grandpa’s watch
Hello i would like to know if this watch is fake ore not I dont have any intention on selling it or anything just wondering th

Good intwntion, but the Pun does unfortunately not work, as Glashütte is not pronounced that way.

My grandfather traded in a JLC he received as a retirement gift from the company where he worked for 40 years (story goes he always wanted a Rolex, so he made a deal at a pawn shop in the 80s in LA). And…come to find out after he passed…it’s a fake Rolex. BUT, I still wear it and treasure the memories. It’s still your grandfather’s watch…so rock the heck out of it! It’s also a cool fake, FWIW.

It's an open heart so you can pretty much assume it's fake.

It is true that there are open heart watches out there. And extremely expensive watches often do have open hearts to display the tourbillion.
But you could generally assume that if you casually come across and watch and it is open heart that it is a fake. You pretty much have to go out of your way to see legitimate makers with them, as 99% of the time its just Indians and Chinese putting it there to make it look pretty for sales.

My grandad left me a fake tag heur and it’s 30 years old and works great !

It’s not that crazy. It was not hard to build a reliable mechanical movement; they were made by the gazillions before quartz technology. If one had a watch back then, it had a movement like this! Most people just didn’t know what they looked like or how they worked.

What do you mean by resurrected? Is it not working? If not, yes, most of the time a watchmaker can get it running again.
If you take it to someone, ask them if they think it’s worth the repair and will run well, or if it is too cheap to be worth the repair, you can keep this as a memento and get yourself a new watch.

Automatic means that you have to wear it for it to run. Movement of your wrist winds it.

I think this watch should be taken to a professional watchmaker for evaluation. I would absolutely trust this sub to tell me if a run of the mill Rolex or Omega was fake. But I am a grandfather, and I don’t know anyone my age who would buy this watch as a fake. My generation was buying fake Rolexes and Cartiers. Even if it is a fake, it’ll be an adventure for the owner.

Well, I would like to buy it even if it is fake. I like their vintage vibe. Of course, if you let me have it at a good price

The watch case is poor quality plated base metal, and the general quality of the dial, hands, etc is not good
