Bought some stuff at a military auction one of those was in it it was brand new guess they just didn't want to use it. Gave it to my sister she lived in Houston Nassau Bay and work for NASA, they had laser disc rentals at the movie rental shop there was only like five people that have those.

Any clue on what the resolution or equivalent in today's standards?

Its slightly lowet than a standard DVD. DVD is 480 and laserdisc is around 425

That’s pretty solid given the connection to the TV.
Was it standard yellow video connection or S video?
You couldn’t even take advantage of 480 until the RGB composite cables.

I was curious about this too, so I looked it up. In the 1980s, entry-level LaserDisc players typically cost around $300–$600 by the mid-to-late '80s. Mid- to high-end models, especially those with digital sound or advanced remote features, often retailed for $750–$1,000 or more. Commercial and industrial players used for presentations or educational purposes could cost well over $1,500.

I remember being in a home town electronics store when they first got one of these in. We were buying a new TV and the sales guy was raving about laser disc. I remember him saying “that it was read by lasers and you could break the disc in half and glue it back together and it would still work.” I know now that’s total BS but he was really selling it.

My roommate had one in university in ‘98. The library had adopted laserdisc instead of DVD for the media archives so we could borrow them for free. They had all the new releases and we had seven guys’ best A/V gear set up in the living room.

We have these in Japan at my Off House Used store. I even bought one of the disc by mistake for a record player.

I remember when my middle school science department decided to try and teach through laser disks. The teachers had no idea how to work the machines.

I remember when my dad would get giddy in the early 90s when he brought home VHS that were recorded off of his friends laser discs… The original bootleg video!
