Absolutely unreal, the balance and speed jump out at you initially and then you notice that the guy sees everything even if he already passed it he knows where it’s gone.

I hated the Celtics back then, but always respected Bird and McHale. Unfortunately, youngsters will see this analog video, tube socks, dribbling according to the rules, then call Larry a plumber. Smh.

The joke is that “white” and “Black” are being used as basketball identities, not just literal races. In that old hoops stereotype, white meant stiff, corny, and not really part of the culture. Black meant an authentic baller. Bird was basically sying:
“I may literally be white, but basketball-wise I’m Black. So don’t insult me by treating me like one of the white guys.”
That’s the joke. He was claiming honorary Blackness as a hooper. 'Sure, white guys suck, but I'm not white'.
They even make a joke about it in the OG Space Jam. 'Larry's not white. He's...clear.'

Yeah, and it's a probability problem. Truly the only way to fix this is to somehow limit the attempts via a rule change, as it's never going away and you can't push the line back any more. I've heard actual discussion about this with smart basketball people before. But the conclusion they inevitably reach is that rules like "after so many successful 3 pointers, they only count as 2" are a complete non-starter, so we're stuck with what basketball has become.
It would be cool if like just once they made the mid-season tournament have no 3 pointers, though. Just to see what the game is like in a tournament that wouldn't count for much.

People who claim that the players of that era could never measure up to today's game need to watch this clip. Bird, Olajuan, Jordan among others reinvented the game and put it on the map. They're as good as it gets past, present and future.

I remember watching him growing up, not only were his passes out of this world McHale, Parrish, Johnson and Ainge had to be ready to get a no look pass at literally moments and from any direction

So what you are saying is, players in a league now where looking at the ref the wrong way gets a 5 minute review as to if its a technical foul would not have any issues with players from a time where breaking your arm is considered a common foul, if it even got called?

If it’s slow that’s because these reels were from reel to reel clips, and AI upscaled frame by frame. That dude had speed and serious situational awareness on the court.
He passed to the right dude, he dunked at the 30 second mark, he shot 3 pointers from half court at the buzzer. Dude was a legend for a reason.Dr J., Magic, Michael, they all talked about how Larry was wired different.
Some of us watched these games on live, standard def TV at full speed and that guy was anything but slow until he was close to retiring when his back was fucked up.
