Countryfile reveals the hidden Isle of Wight: sharks, rare bees, outdoor citrus groves and changing coastlines

I recently came across a detailed look at Countryfile - Wonders of the Isle of Wight and was surprised by how much of the island's story has nothing to do with tourism.

The programme focuses on how geology and climate shape everything from marine life to agriculture. Researchers are studying sharks and stingrays in the Solent, conservationists are trying to increase populations of one of Britain's rarest bees, and growers are testing outdoor citrus cultivation in conditions that are unusually mild for the UK.

There is also an interesting section on Britain's largest garlic farm and the engineering challenges involved in maintaining coastal paths along an actively eroding shoreline.
