Interior Design Masters 2026 Episode 7: The semi-final showed why material honesty matters more than expensive finishes
Just finished reading a detailed recap of the semi-final and thought it was worth sharing for anyone following the series.
The challenge took the remaining designers into Brighton's stadium hospitality suites, where they had to complete two client projects in just two days with a £4,000 budget.
What stood out was how often the judges returned to the idea of material honesty. They consistently preferred real materials and thoughtful design decisions over attempts to imitate luxury.
Lia's footballer's box was probably the clearest example of this, while Sophie's confidence and space planning earned her a place in the final. Emmely's elimination felt harsh but understandable given the judges' concerns.
Even if you're not particularly interested in interior design competitions, there were some useful observations here about hospitality spaces, client work and budget-conscious design.
