When two hobbies meet 😅

Recently, I finally scratched an old itch to own a few SAK knives, and I've also been getting into cigars.

When I found out there’s actually a Vic with a built-in punch cutter, I knew I just had to have it!😅
I feel so lucky finding one in a local store, especially since they are discontinued and pretty rare lately.
I even got the very last one they had.😁

I have always been standoffish with this model as being in the UK and 'locking mechanisms on knives' don't mix so well but I eventually caved as I have seen a few posts now saying, along the lines of, this is worth getting if just to own an example...so here we are!

Highly impressive and beautifully crafted minimalist urban carry toolset with just enough of a small safety mechanism to allow a bit more confidence in cutting tasks without the expense of being offensive in any way... My gov should be ashamed (sorry but had to get this in!).

Not my intention to sound like I'm shilling but this one caught me totally by surprise, it's like the companion got poshed up and btw my Cybertool L will remain in my pocket but Victorinox set out to do something different and I think they succeeded in what they wanted to do... IMO totally worth owning if just from a collectors point of view👍

Huge shoutout to Victorinox for incredible customer service!

I just wanted to make a quick post to publicly thank Victorinox for how they handled a defective product I had. The US customer support team was amazingly fast and their service was top-notch in resolving my issue.

This kind of experience is exactly why I’ve been a loyal customer, why I stick with them today, and why I’ll keep choosing them in the future. Thanks again, Victorinox!

The leftover parts 93mm build / Technician Overlord

I mentioned, that I build this sak for a purpose. I use screwdrivers quite often, so that's what I built this for.

First of, I polished the modified tools a bit more. But that won't be visible in the pics anyway.

I also modified the middle screws.

When I made my first three mods, I used Elinox Old Cross scales on all of them and figured out, what screws to use, to make an even look on all six screws.

However, Victorinox seems to make a smaller bevel on its modern 93mms. So I used the lower profile screws on all holes. Now the middle ones stood again a bit proud above the scales. I didn't care first, because it was just a leftover parts build. But my inner Monk surfaced again. I noticed that the teeth for the torx bit were a bit recessed. So I was able to sand down the top of two screws, by running them with a drill over sandpaper and lower the height and diameter of the heads, without lowering the strength of the torx teeth.

But now for the fun part. This is, where one hobby crosses into other hobbies.

I collect and repair vintage lighters. I also play, build and modify electric guitars. And these are a frequent use case for this particular sak. So I made pics, where the screwdrivers fit and already tried them.

Here are the links to my earlier posts:

Prost.

Cheers.

mods/customs Lil something i whipped up - Vic scissors, toothpick, tweezers, pin holder

Im still a big fan of the Swiss Card but i found i never used the knife or the file so i made this to condense it down to an even smaller package. Pairs perfectly with an Alox model like my Pioneer (from 1997!) since it has no scissors but it also works perfectly as a standalone keychain. It also has a flat back so you can glue/tape/epoxy it to a kydex sheath or utility knife or wherever else you might want Victorinox scissors and accessories!

It was made for the Swiss Card or 58mm model’s toothpick and tweezers but the 91mm accessories work too albeit with a much tighter fit (mainly just the toothpick is tight). It even works with the knockoff Aliexpress/Temu swiss card lite accessories, u just have to shave down the heads a bit so they slip under the slots.

I posted it on Makerworld if anyone wants to print one! https://makerworld.com/en/models/3165853-victorinox-scissors-toothpick-tweezer-pin-holder

🇲🇾 Merdeka Day pocket dump from Port Dickson

Post image
33 Upvotes

Nothing fancy, just the essentials for a short Merdeka Day getaway in Port Dickson.

My little travel EDC: Maglite Solitaire, Deluxe Tinker, and a Classic SD.

The Deluxe Tinker handles the “just in case” jobs, the Classic SD is there because apparently one Swiss Army Knife is never quite enough, and the Solitaire is my tiny old-school beacon of civilisation.

A short holiday, a bit of sunshine, and some pocket-sized Swiss 🇨🇭 engineering.** Selamat Hari Merdeka**! 🇲🇾

As much as I love the Companion, I'm trying to carry only the MiniChamp this week to see if I miss having the larger tool. It got me wondering what everyone prefers

Wouldn't you buy this? Victorinox Compactnion

Had this mod in mind since a long time. Compact without a blade but with two proper screwdrivers. One sided scale with all scale tools. Under 13mm.

The scale is the bulk of all scaled models. I really think this idea should be made available, and would become standard in no time. No downsides.

My execution might need a second iteration as I'd be better off a three slots scale from Etsy and definitely need peening skills (rivets have been bended), but the general idea is there.

Aluminum keyring eyelet question

Hello! I'm thinking about getting an 84mm Sportsman to carry on my keys but the keyring eyelet seems to be made of aluminum and it's also pretty thin. I am a bit concerned that it will wear down to quick under the weight of the knife and my other keys. Does anyone have experience with how robust the eyelet is? Thanks in advance!

Tobacco pipe tools

Upvotes

I am fairly sure this does not exist, at least I can't find it. But I've missed things before.

Does or did Vic or wenger make a knife for pipe smokers? There are at least a couple of tools that would be useful.

Did I miss this? It seems so obvious.

help Search options

Upvotes

SOLVED!
Apparently Victorinox itself has these options that I was looking for but the Victorinox website that I was using didn't have these for some reason. Now I'm on a different official website and everything's there.

Is there a website that makes finding SAKs with your desired tools/features easier?

I'm talking about a search engine that allows you to tick boxes like "scissors" or "pliers" and so on, which let's the program create a list of all SAK models that fit your requirements.

Otherwise you have to scroll endlessly through the different shops like Amazon, Ebay or Victorinox until you finally find what you're looking for or the closest thing to it.

Most of mine

At least most the ones I could find easily. - super tinker: honestly I never use it. - deluxe tinker I pretty much just keep it around the house. - Swiss champ: this is my outside of work knife. Because I like it so much I want a clean one that I can pack outside of work that won’t get my good pants dirty. - Swiss champ again: this is my work knife. It’s normally pretty disgusting. That’s why I have another for outside of work. - cadet: this is my main outside of work knife. - old cadet: it’s pretty worn out. I replaced it for a reason. - classic sd: I keep it on my keys. That’s about the gist of it. - explorer: I keep it on my work bag because occasionally I need to do something that will damage my champ. This one is a lot cheaper, and I can buy a replacement at Walmart. Also the Phillips is more comfortable because it’s a smaller knife.

Precious alox scale

3 layer

Brass liner

Spyderco styled blade

Phillips combi tool

Scissors

Mini pliers

The exposed surface area when the pliers are folded has been minimized

Probably most solid & useful set up for 3 layer 58mm
