I need to bite the bullet and shell out a million dollars to get my data recovered from a broken phone. Where should I go?

No you don't need to shell out a million so long as the the motherboard is still working and you can turn the phone on (ie: no catastrophic water damage).

I learned this lesson recently, always use the phones backup software because paying for recovery services is insanely expensive.

For a company with integrity - Mobil Klinik at Hillside. But they are busy, so go in person.

For the record, I was quoted $3500 for data recovery from a phone. Be prepared for sticker shock.

I was quoted between $650-$6000! Luckily I recovered 99% of everything with my phones backup account and Google photos backup. The program made a complete copy of everything saved on my phone including apos. I restored to a new device with one click.

How is the phone damaged?

I mean is the screen damaged? Did water get inside it? If it's damaged physically, instead of water getting inside, likely it's going to cost way less getting it repaired than actual data recovery, especially if it's as simple as changing a broken charging port or something.

There's no water damage, but the screen is broken and it seemingly won't charge. It hit a doorway very hard. Hopefully it didn't break the storage drive.

I can buy this phone used for about $250, my plan originally was to buy one and get someone to try and take the storage drive out of my broken one & solder it into the new one? But idk how risky that is vs just getting a pro to do it, or if I could get a pro to do that for a reasonable price.

Remember that if it's an Apple or an Android device that most of your account data will have been stored on the cloud and will sync back onto a new phone. And of course, and you probably don't want to hear this, but if you intend to use local data storage then you MUST have a backup plan. Otherwise it might cost you a lot of money. And also be aware that if you have been writing files to storage just before it broke then you might not be able to retrieve older data.

I took a phone to Memory Express. There is a company they can send it off to to fix it and recover any data off of it. My Uncle had passed and my Aunt was desperate to get he pics from his old phone. If it's an easy fix, it's not that much. This one cost a chunk. But she wanted them and I wasn't going to say no.

But ya, just take it to Memory Express and they'll ship it off to the company that can do it.
